Abstract

In most traffic projects, speed survey is required. If the speed survey uses detector, all data might be obtained. Otherwise a sampling strategy needs to be introduced. To ensure the collection of representative sample of speeds there were several sampling options, e.g. collecting sample every regular interval. In this paper three regular intervals were tested, i.e. 30 seconds, 1 minute and 2 minutes 30 seconds. Travel time data was collected in morning, mid day, and afternoon periods in a two-lanes two-ways underpass in Jakarta. Travel speeds were calculated by dividing light vehicle travel times with the underpass length. Space mean speeds were calculated as a light vehicle travel mean speeds/ 5 minutes. The observation of each light vehicle travel times (to get each light vehicle travel speeds) was conducted for the first 15 minutes of three observation periods. More frequent speed sample collection provides higher accuracy. Keywords: space mean speed, sampling strategy, regular interval sampling

Abstract

The identification of transportation cost structure could help public transportation managers to determine the minimum tariff that can provide the maximum service for peoples. The tariff should be acceptable by the users and still gives fair profit for the operators. This study investigated the public transport Rute number 011(Sub Terminal Pancasila – Pasirangin) in Tasikmalaya City, to find the ability and the willingness to of the users. It was found that the current fare of public transport for Kota Tasikmalaya is higher than the ability to pay of the users. Keywords: tariff, fare, public transportation, and ability to pay.

Abstract

KRL transport operator should be able to create specific products in order to answer the demands and needs of service users. This study aims to determine market segmentation and positioning of the user of KRL Tanahabang-Serpong line based on class of service. Analyses were performed using the methods of K-Means Cluster and correspondence analysis. The results suggest that the market of KRL Tanahabang-Serpong line can be divided into 3 segments, namely segment of the upper class which is not too concerned with price, segment of the middle-class which is realistic on price, and segment of lower class which is oriented on price only. From the mapping results of the users perception of the KRL services, it is found that there is an associative relationships of the product image in the minds of consumers, namely KRL Express - Fast and On Time, KRL Economy with AC - Comfortable and Affordable, and KRL Economy - Cheap. Keywords: KRL, market segmentation, perceptual maps, product image.

Abstract

Road is one of the transport infrastructure that plays a role in the life of the Indonesian nation and promote the general welfare. The use of materials and non-renewable natural resources can be a problem for future generations. Giving priority to only one road users on road design phase, before and after the implementation of the road construction, will be a problem for other road users. Development program that takes into account social, economic, and environment has been proclaimed by many countries and has been a mutual agreement as sustainable development. Efforts that lead to a sustainable development in Indonesia are to consider the principles of sustainable development path that has been used by other countries. This paper identifies criteria for sustainable development and determines criteria that allow for the achievement of sustainable road in Indonesia. The results indicate that the concept into a sustainable development is the fulfillment of the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations fulfillment, improve the economic, environmental quality, and equality of rights. The criteria for a sustainable road management are efficiency, mobility, safe and comfortable, community participation, restrictions on emissions, natural resources, habitats, and ecosystems. Keywords: sustainable road, sustainable development, sustainable criteria

Abstract

Aceh province heavily relies on the road transportation to support its economic development. Freight movement carried out by land transport (mostly on road) is more than 95% in this province. This condition is even worsened by trucks which tend to carry overload. This study is conducted to evaluate pavement performance in the east corridor of roads in the Aceh Province caused by overloading trucks, using the AASHTO method. The pavement preservation cost analysis is based on the pavement design life of 10 years. The results show that the preservation costs for 2-axle colt truck is Rp. Rp. 847/ton-km, for 2-axle engkel truck is Rp. 1,377/ton-km, for 3-axle tronton truck is Rp. 789/ton-km, and for 3-axle intercooler truck is Rp. 1,086/ton-km.Keywords: Aceh, preservation, performance, damage, highway.

Abstract

In order to achieve sustainable transportation target, one of the transportation policy commonly adopted is to increase the use of public transport, for example, bus and train. It is, therefore, important to study the commuting behavior by bus and train of residents. Two techniques were applied to study commutingbehavior, i.e. preference functions and Moran’s I spatial statistic. The commuting preference by bus was found to move towards distance maximization over time. Unlike decreasing trend for the slope preferences by bus by increasing LGA distances from the CBD, there is no clear increasing or decreasing trend for theslope preferences by train. Similar to bus, the slope preferences by train are relatively stable over time. A significant positive spatial association was identified for the slope preferences by bus for both O-D and D-O matrices, however the spatial variation in the slope preferences by train was found to be random. Keywords: commuting preferences, spatial association, preference function

Abstract

This paper presents the concept of a simple model to investigate the effects of land use change to accessibility. The proposed model consists of three interrelated stages submodel. The application of the model in the case of Semarang showed that residential area is most dominant zone forming the structure ofurban space, followed by the commercial and industrial zones. Related to the price of land, there is a difference in the land use and accessibility changes at 2 different time periods. Changes in the structure of space associated with an increase in land prices could affect the accessibility of the zone due to the potentialzone with high urban land price change. The concept of this model can be used as a theoretical basis for urban planners in Indonesia and is expected to be to be used as a tool to make a decision for the sustainable planning policy makers a road network in urban areas in developing countries such as Indonesia. Keywords: land use, accessibility, the structure of urban space.

Abstract

Slag as waste material of steel-making process has similar characteristics with aggregate that has been widely used in pavement construction. The use of slag as chip seal aggregate to provide skid resistance needs to be analyzed. In this laboratory study, the chip seal samples are made using steel slag and natural aggregate. The bonding materials used are asphalt and epoxy resin. Skid resistance tests for all chip seal samples and also hot rolled sheet pavement without chip seal application are performed using the Portable British Pendulum Tester. The results show the variations of chip seal aggregate weight are inconsistent. The natural aggregate used as chip seal material could produce high skid resistance value of 10.3% higher than that using steel slag. Also the skid resistance of chip seal with the ALD 3 mm are not significantly different with that of ALD 6 mm. Similar results occur on the skid resistance of chip seals using epoxy resin and asphalt. Keywords: steel slag, waste material, chip seal, the Portable British Pendulum Tester, skid resistance.

Abstract

The increasing use of cars by students impact on traffic congestion and the increasing need for parking spaces. This study has several objectives , namely (1) determine differences in travel expenses for students who use cars and vanpool services, (2) determine barriers for students who have not and who never use the vanpool service, (3) find out the facilities and vanpool fares desired by the student, (4) determine the value of the Benefit Cost Ratio shuttle service operators at present, and (5) estimate a deficit or surplus experienced by the campus, as a result of tariff subsidies for shuttle services and finance the shuttle service management. The results of this study indicate that the cost of travel by using a shuttle service is cheaper than using a car for traveling to campus if the distance from residences to campus greater than 9 km, and the subsidies granted for vanpool fares and vanpool office cost, can help overcome constraints associated with the shuttle service, parking demand reduction, and provide a budget surplus to fund other campus transportation management strategies. Keywords: parking demand, campus transport management, vanpool
