Abstract

This paper presents an investigation of important factors relating sidewalk performance based on pedestrian perceptions by gender and age. Exploratory factor analysis technique and reliability test of the variables are performed on 45 items of sidewalk current condition in order to extract dimensions of pedestrian perceptions in Jakarta and Bangkok. Based on age, male respondents reveals that eight factors are identified as important on sidewalk performance, and labeled on the basis of the attributed covered as sidewalk interaction, comfort, space availability, safety, vendor problems, walking path, vendor regulation, and vendor’s attraction. On the other hand, the first seven factors are similarly stated by female respondents. Grouped by age, young respondents reveal nine factors are considered important and arbitrarily named as comfort, sidewalk interaction, safety, vendor’s attraction, vendor problems, vendor regulation, walking path, space availability, and sidewalk condition. The presence of vendors are often deemed as obstruction for walking flow, but their activities should be accommodated by establishing policies and management to accept high performance of the sidewalks and to support the city’s economy. Keywords: sidewalk, street vendor, factor analysis

Abstract

The growth of Semarang City created residential areas in the pheriperal of the city. The objectives of this study is to analyze the development of public transport based on the geographic information system. The method used is a descriptive method, using isoprice and mobility models. The results show that mobility to the central city is influenced by transportation expenses and potensial amount of people transported. Keywords: Public trasport development, isoprice, and mobility model.

Abstract

The waste of sawdust ash available in Ternate, North Maluku Province, has the potential to be used as material for making asphalt concrete mixtures. In this study, the waste of sawdust ash was used to make a mixture of type B Hot Rolled Sheet Asphalt Concrete (HRS). The results showed that sawdust ash has the potential to be used as the filler material in the mixture of type B HRS. It was shown also that the voids in mixture of the type B HRS in this study were very high, which could reduce the durability of the mixture. The use of sawdust ash has also the potential to produce cheaper mixtures.Key words: sawdust ash, hot rolled sheet, voids in the mix, durability.

Abstract

As a basic model, trip generation model aims to obtain the number of movement generated by each origin and the one attracted to each destination zone. Based on the movement, trip generation model is categorized into home-based trip generation and non home-originated/destinated trip attraction. Given that the different types of activities attract trips with different characteristics, it can be concluded that land use management determines the movement and activities. Remote sensing imagery has been extensively used in various research themes including land use management or land use and detailed land utility. As one of the remote sensing imageries, Quickbird imagery is advantageous with its high spatial resolution which is 0.61 cm. Therefore, it is interesting to apply the 0.61 cm spatial resolution to the trip generation model to estimate the number of trips at the trip generation. This aims is to minimize field activities which are high cost, extensive workers, and relatively time consuming. Keywords: trip generation model, trip attraction, quickbird imagery

Abstract

This paper presents the assessment of a number of factors affecting bus travel time and a relationship model between those factors and bus travel time. Statistica Neural Network (SNN) tool is used to solve this complex phenomenon. Data collected include bus travel time, distance, average speed, and number of bus stop. The results show that bus travel time is well predicted using variables of distance, average speed, and number of bus stops. The bus travel time increased due to the increase of distance and number of bus stops, while the higher the average speed from one stop to another, the lower bus travel time. Keywords: bus travel time prediction, distance, average speed of bus, number of bus stop

Abstract

Limited size of the road dimension in an area could prevent formal public transport (four-wheeled vehicles) to serve the area. This condition led to the rise of public transport alternatives, such as motorcycle ojek, with flexible routes and rates. Currently, their operation and service tend to increase in many cities in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the potential use of ojek as an alternative to public transport in urban areas.Analyses were performed using the causal relationship between services quality factors with the satisfaction and loyalty of users, using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method. The results showed that more than 70% of users who will continue to use motorcycle ojek for a long time, especially in suburban areas, and about 30% are likely to switch to alternative modes, especially users with the end destination of employment. Keywords: motorcycle-ojek, user satisfaction, user loyalty.

Abstract

A comprehensive knowledge regarding vehicle distribution can be utilized to adjust vehicle distribution coefficient (C) on the Manual of Indonesian Flexible Pavement Design (SKBI-2.3.26.1987). This paper discusses the effect of city characteristics, lane configuration, and flow level on vehicle distribution in urban road lanes. Three cities were observed, i.e. Mataram, Bandung, and Surabaya. Ten road links were observedwhich consist of six 4 lanes-2 ways and four 6 lanes-2 ways divided roads. Surveys were carried out for 24 hours of a normal working day. Traffic counts were grouped every 15 minutes per direction, per lane for 3 vehicle types. i.e. light vehicle, heavy vehicle, and motorcycle. T-test of mean differences was used as a technique for analysis. The results show that the design lane was the most right lane and the values of C in Mataram, Bandung, and Surabaya were higher than those on the Manual. Keywords: vehicle distribution coeeficient, flexible pavement design

Abstract

Transportation problem is complex because the growth of road infrastructure is not proportional to the increase in the number of travels. This is indicated by the increasing levels of private vehicle ownership, numer of trips, insufficient of public transport services, and limited road infrastructure. In this study, the pattern of mass transit, as stated in Law No. 22 of 2009, was examined. Analyses were performed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Modeling. The results showed that the variables of Travel Origin and Destination, Travel Patterns, Willingness, and Ability to Pay explained approximately77.0% of the variation in the Guided Busway Needs variable. In addition, Travel Origin and Destination, Travel Patterns, and Willingness and Ability to Pay have positive and significant impact on the Guided Busway Needs. Keywords: mass transit, guided busway, origin destination travel, travel patterns, willingness and ability topay.

Abstract

This study concerns with the research work on Location Model of Public Service Obligation State-Owned Company (PSO-SOC). Its aim is to develop an approach of making location decision on distribution facilities of such company, in which capacities of facilities are limited (capacitated facilities) and it deals with single commodity. Heuristic solution is proposed to modify established Add Algorithm, which is designed for uncapacitated facilities. The Network Representation is used to represent original problem of LocationModel. An example is provided to illustrate the proposed step-wise of solving the model. Keywords: location model, Add Algorithm, Network Representation.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine differences in travel time and the factors that influence the differences in travel time of passengers and baggage movement in arrival terminal at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport, Makassar. This research is a correlation study, using primary data from direct measurements in the field as well as secondary data derived from monthly reports of the Divisi Operasional Aeronautical Information Service, which is a fixed flight schedule, and from the Divisi Sisi Udara, in the form of data movement on the apron. Processing data in this study used the SPSS software. The analysis showed the smallest time difference between passengers and baggage occurs when using the bus, followed by the use of aviobridge. The greatest difference in time occurs when walking. It can be concluded that the use of the bus is more effective in reducing delays in baggage reception at the arrival terminal. Keywords: travel time, airport, ground handling, arrival terminal
