Abstract

This paper presents an H∞ estimation approach to active control of acoustic noise inside an enclosure. It is shown how H∞ filter theory and algorithm can be effectively applied to active noise control to provide important robustness property. Real-time implementation of the algorithm is performed on Digital Signal Processor. Experimental comparison to conventional FxLMS algorithm for active noise control is presented for both single channel and multichannel cases. While providing some new results, this paper also serves as a brief review on H∞ filter theory and on active noise control.

Abstract

In this paper, we propose model predictive control method for linear complementarity and extended linear complementarity systems by formulating optimization along prediction horizon as mixed integer quadratic program. Such systems contain interaction between continuous dynamics and discrete event systems, and therefore, can be categorized as hybrid systems. As linear complementarity and extended linear complementarity systems finds applications in different research areas, such as impact mechanical systems, traffic control and process control, this work will contribute to the development of control design method for those areas as well, as shown by three given examples.

Abstract

The  applicability  of  parameter-varying  reduced-order  controllers  to aircraft  models  is  proposed.  A  generalization  of  the  balanced  singular perturbation method of the linear time-invariant (LTI) system was used to reduce the order of  the  linear parameter-varying (LPV) system. Based on the reducedorder model, a  low-order  LPV  controller  was  designed  using  the H∞ synthesis technique.  The  performance  of  the  reduced-order  controller  was  examined  by applying  it  to  the  lateral-directional  control  of  a  20th-order  aircraft  model. Furthermore, the time responses of the closed-loop system with  several reducedorder LPV controllers and  a  reduced-order LTI controller  were  compared.  The simulation results  show that an  ,  8th -order LPV controller can maintain stability and  provide  the  same  level  of  closed-loop  system  performance  as  a  full-order LPV  controller.  This  was  not  the  case  with  the  reduced-order  LTI  controller, which  cannot  maintain  stability  and  performance  for  all  allowable  parameter trajectories.

Abstract

This paper presents active control of acoustic noise using radial basis function (RBF) networks and its digital signal processor (DSP) real-time implementation. The neural control system consists of two stages: first, identification (modeling) of secondary path of the active noise control using RBF networks and its learning algorithm, and secondly neural control of primary path based on neural model obtained in the first stage. A tapped delay line is introduced in front of controller neural, and another tapped delay line is inserted between controller neural networks and model neural networks. A new algorithm referred to as Filtered X-RBF is proposed to account for secondary path effects of the control system arising in active noise control. The resulting algorithm turns out to be the filtered-X version of the standard RBF learning algorithm. We address centralized and decentralized controller configurations and their DSP implementation is carried out. Effectiveness of the neural controller is demonstrated by applying the algorithm to active noise control within a 3 dimension enclosure to generate quiet zones around error microphones. Results of the real-time experiments show that 10-23 dB noise attenuation is produced with moderate transient response.

Abstract

This paper describes a dissipative controller design for networked control systems modeled by the Markovian jump system. Dissipativity refers to the existence of a supply rate dealing with the system such that the closed-loop system has a dissipative property. The main result of this paper is a solvability condition in terms of linear matrix inequalities for achieving dissipativity of a dynamic output feedback problem in networked control systems via the Markovian jump system approach. A numerical example is given to show the efficacy of the proposed design.

Abstract

This  paper  investigates  the  problem  of  H∞ performance  analysis  for continous–time systems with two additive time -varying delays in the state.  Our objective is focused on  stability  analysis of  a  continuous  system with two timevarying  delays  with  an  H∞ disturbance  attenuation  level  γ.  By  exploiting  Lyapunov-Krasovski functional and introducing free weighting matrix variables, LMI stability condition have been derived.

Abstract

This paper proposes the control design ofa nonlinear polynomial fuzzy system with H∞ performance objective using a sum of squares (SOS) approach. Fuzzy model and controller are represented by a polynomial fuzzy model and controller. The design condition is obtained by using polynomial Lyapunov functions that not only guarantee stability but also satisfy the H∞ performance objective. The design condition is represented in terms of an SOS that can be numerically solved via the SOSTOOLS. A simulation study is presented to show the effectiveness of the SOS-based H∞ control designfor nonlinear polynomial fuzzy systems.

Abstract

The performance of a business unit, to a large extent, is determined by the quality of its strategy and how well the strategy is implemented. This study examines the effect ofstrategy implementation on performance. In particular, it investigates the extent to which the fit between two crucial strategic supporting systems, namely decentralization andbudget system, and managers’ attitude with the strategy of SBU on performance. It is argued that the more consistent the level of decentralization, degree of participation in thebudget system and managers’ attitude with the SBU strategies, the higher the performance will be, and vice versa. Unlike most prior studies, the hypothesis was tested by adopting the system of fit approach. Responses from 75 divisional managers of 75 diversified companies are analyzed. The results show that managers pursuing a strategy of differentiation (cost leadership) report high performance when they worked in highly (less) decentralized structures, are given more (less) opportunity to participate in the budget process, and had strongly positive attitude toward their jobs and their firms. These findings are consistent with the basic premise of strategy implementation that different strategies should be supported with different configuration of organizational structure and process to achieve optimal results. Keywords: strategy implementation, decentralization, participation, attitude, system of fit.

Abstract

Abstract

This paper addresses Differential Binary Phase Shift Keying (DBPSK) modulation implemented on SDR platform for the development of digital data communications based on SDR. DBPSK modulation performance perceived at Packet Error Rate (PER) is evaluated in terms of Eb/No or S/N ratio, carrier frequency, bit rate, gain, roll-off factor of root Nyquist filter or root raised cosine filter, and of size of payload from delivered data. Based on this results, the smallest PER could be obtained by setting Eb/No value which is greater than 13 dB, carrier frequency of at least 0,3 MHz, optimum bit rate of 256 kbps, optimum range payload size of 2000 up to 4000 bytes, and roll-off factor of Nyquist or root-raised cosine filter of 0.1<alfa<0.9.
