Abstract

Although gastronomy is increasingly recognized as a unique and abundant resource for tourism development, its contribution to unlocking destination potential and fostering tourism growth has become undeniable. However, research interest in this field remains relatively limited, particularly in exploring and utilizing gastronomy as a dimension of green tourism development. Given its role in enhancing the value of tourist experiences while promoting cultural sustainability, gastronomy should be considered a crucial aspect of tourism development. As a resource that reflects the local way of life and cultural identity, cuisine provides distinctive and profound insights into the destination. This study employs a qualitative research approach with a triangulated data collection method, incorporating perspectives from local communities, culinary tourism stakeholders, and local authorities. SWOT analysis and flow model analysis techniques are utilized to derive meaningful findings and implications. Keywords: tourism, green tourism, culinary tourism, sustainable development, Ha Giang.

Abstract

Tourism planning plays a crucial role in ensuring inclusive and sustainable development by balancing economic growth with environmental conservation. This study aims to examines the tourism planning framework in Ciletuh-Palabuhan Ratu Geopark, focusing on key tourism elements: attractions, amenities, accessibility, and the spatial context of Ciemas Sub-district. This geopark has the potential to support the local economy through its unique geological features and cultural heritage. However, this potential has yet to provide optimal socio-economic benefits to local communities. A qualitative descriptive approach was applied, integrating literature review, stakeholder interviews, field-based observations. Spatial analysis was conducted using GIS through overlay techniques incorporating topography, contour intervals, road networks, rivers, settlement patterns, tourist attractions, and protected areas. The results identified nine major tourist attractions categorized into marine, landscape, and geotourism, with the Ciletuh Mega Amphitheater serving as the spatial landmark. While local amenities reflect sustainable architectural characteristics, accommodation capacity remains limited. Accessibility is limited by the lack of public transport and poor road conditions in several strategic areas. The study delineates tourism planning zones covering 4,827.35 ha and proposes an integrated tourism trail connecting major attractions. These findings provide a strategic basis for environmentally sustainable tourism development aligned with geopark’s conservation objectives.

Abstract

This study examines the ethical implications of foreign property dominance in Canggu, Bali, following the post-pandemic surge in digital nomads. Using a mixed-method approach involving 400 respondents, the research analyzes the impact of this demographic shift on social inequality and environmental integrity. The results demonstrate a strong correlation between foreign property expansion and widening social gaps. Findings reveal that local residents perceive significantly higher environmental degradation compared to the expatriate population. Specifically, the "New Moscow" phenomenon has triggered the economic displacement of indigenous communities due to soaring rental prices and the destruction of the traditional Subak irrigation ecosystem. The study concludes that the current trajectory prioritizes profit over cultural preservation, resulting in a neo-colonial spatial structure that overlooks local wisdom. To safeguard Bali’s future, the research recommends an immediate moratorium on commercial permits in green zones, agricultural tax incentives, and stricter regulation of foreign ownership schemes to ensure sustainable and equitable tourism planning.

Abstract

The global tourism industry is undergoing a significant shift toward sustainable tourism concepts that emphasize not only economic growth and visitor numbers but also environmental and cultural preservation. This study aims to examine the effects of various dimensions of Memorable Tourism Experience (MTE)—including hedonism, involvement, knowledge, local culture, meaningfulness, novelty, and refreshment—on visitor satisfaction. Additionally, it explores how visitor satisfaction impacts Positive Word of Mouth (PWOM) and Revisit Intention at Udjo Ecoland, a bamboo conservation destination in Bandung. Using a quantitative survey of 206 respondents, data were analyzed through Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with SmartPLS. Results indicate that active involvement (β=0.274; p=0.000), knowledge (β=0.128; p=0.043), local culture (β=0.205; p=0.002), and novelty (β=0.143; p=0.025) significantly affect visitor satisfaction, while hedonism, meaningfulness, and refreshment do not show significant effects. Visitor satisfaction strongly drives PWOM (β=0.427; p=0.000) and revisit intention (β=0.422; p=0.000), with PWOM also reinforcing revisit intention (β=0.422; p=0.000). Mediation analysis confirms visitor satisfaction as a mediator linking MTE to promotional behavior and visitor loyalty. These findings underscore the importance of developing interactive, educational, and culturally rooted tourism experiences to enhance visitor loyalty and sustain conservation destinations. This study contributes theoretically and offers practical recommendations for destination managers to design responsible and value-added sustainable tourism strategies. Abstract

Coastal tourism has significant potential to stimulate economic growth and improve community welfare in Indonesia’s coastal areas. Sumbersih Village in Panggungrejo Subdistrict, Blitar Regency, is home to Peh Pulo Beach, a coastal attraction characterized by white sandy beaches and a pristine natural environment. Despite its high tourism potential, the development of Peh Pulo Beach remains suboptimal due to inadequate road accessibility, limited supporting facilities, weak digital promotion, and constrained human resource capacity in tourism management. This study aims to formulate development strategies for Peh Pulo Beach as a sustainable tourism destination based on local social, economic, and environmental conditions. A qualitative research approach was employed through in-depth interviews with two key informants, the Head of Peh Pulo Hamlet and a local resident who serves as the village office caretaker, supported by field observations and documentation. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, consisting of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that poor accessibility, insufficient tourism facilities, and the absence of structured digital promotion are the main barriers to tourism development, while strong community support constitutes a critical enabling factor. Therefore, strategic priorities include improving access infrastructure, enhancing tourism facilities, empowering local communities, strengthening digital promotion, and addressing regulatory barriers to support sustainable tourism development.

Abstract

Karst springs, such as the Jalasundra-Mbrumbun springs in East Java, Indonesia, have considerable potential to integrate natural conservation and tourism development. However, flora inventories and studies examining the relationship between plant diversity and tourism remain limited in karst areas. This study aims to identify plant species in the spring area and to explore tourism-related aspects associated with the site. Plant species were documented through field observations, while plant nomenclature and distribution status were determined using the Royal Botanic Gardens’ Plants of the World Online database. Tourism data were obtained through semi-structured interviews using purposive sampling involving five respondents, as well as direct observation of the four key tourism components (4A). A total of eighteen plant species were identified in the spring area, the majority of which are native species (12 species). Several plant species found in the area are considered sacred, including Ficus kurzii, Ficus benjamina, and Pimelodendron sp. In addition, the presence of an invasive species, Muntingia calabura, poses a significant threat to ecosystem balance. Therefore, preserving native species and controlling invasive species are essential for maintaining spring ecosystem sustainability. Furthermore, attention to the 4A tourism components, alongside native species conservation, represents a key element in strengthening the relationship between conservation and tourism.

Abstract

The street corridors in historic areas play a crucial role in enhancing tourism appeal and have a significant impact on creating memorable spatial experiences. In Karangturi Village, Lasem, visual elements not only represent historical and local cultural values but also serve as key attractions that enrich visitors’ overall experiences. This study aims to examine the visual quality of the streetscape along the historic corridor in Karangturi Village, Lasem, using a quantitative approach through questionnaires distributed to 185 visitors. The assessment focuses on five aspects of visual landscape quality: dominance, unity, continuity, uniqueness, and rhythm. The results indicate that the visual elements of the streetscape are highly rated and align with the historical character of the area, particularly in the dominance of street lighting and the uniqueness of building designs. These findings suggest that visual landscape design functions not merely as an aesthetic component but also as a strategic instrument to support the development of heritage-based tourism.
