Abstract

Protected forests located along the equator provide significant ecological services, such as oxygen production, water retention, and erosion control. The Langsa City protected forest, while ecologically valuable, has not fully leveraged its potential for tourism through recreational sports tourism infrastructure. This study aims to assess the readiness and safety of recreational sports tourism facilities in Langsa City's protected forest and explore their potential to contribute to local economic growth through tourism. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed, incorporating field-based inventory and percentage analysis. Data were collected through direct observation, interviews with local stakeholders, and documentation of the existing recreational sports tourism facilities. The key results showed that while most facilities were in good condition, there were critical issues: PT. PEKOLA had not implemented an effective marketing strategy to attract visitors from outside the region, there was a lack of trained personnel to manage the facilities, and the infrastructure was underutilized, limiting its economic impact on the surrounding community. This research highlights the untapped potential of protected forests to drive a tourism-based economy. To maximize these benefits, it is recommended that the marketing strategy be improved, local staff be trained, and facility utilization be enhanced.

Abstract

Tourism literature that explains community resilience in the context of island destinations still requires in-depth study. This research aims to 1) identify the impact of COVID-19 on marine tourism attractions; 2) analyse the determining factors for sustainable marine tourism management; 3) analyse community efforts to revive marine tourism after COVID-19. A case study approach guided the authors in understanding marine tourism and issues related to COVID-19 and community resilience in Pulau Dua, Banggai Regency (Indonesia). The authors collected research data through interviews with residents, tourism business actors, and direct observation in research areas in August 2023. The research reveals that the COVID-19 pandemic is an unexpected event and affects the sustainability of marine tourism management. COVID-19 is the primary reason for the damage to tourism facilities. There are two key factors determining the sustainability of marine tourism: COVID-19 and the successful execution of events. Tourism stakeholders should seize the opportunity presented by the post-COVID-19 period to rebuild the marine tourism sector. This research proposes strategies that tourism stakeholders can implement to enhance community resilience. The local government can enhance resilience by planning and rebuilding tourist facilities on Pulau Dua. The regional government's commitment to sustaining the success of tourism events in Pulau Dua is a testament to its resilience. Local institutional resilience is a solution to restore Pulau Dua's image as a tourism icon and marine destination.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze Generation Z's interest in herbal medicine as part of the development of health tourism in Indonesia. Supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and the Ministry of Health, wellness and herbal tourism has become one of the focuses in strengthening health tourism. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach with a purposive sampling technique. The sources consisted of ten herbal medicine producers and ten Gen Z individuals in the city of Bandung. The results of the study show that most Gen Z individuals are familiar with herbal medicine and understand its health benefits. However, there is still a stigma associated with herbal medicine, which is often perceived as having a bitter taste and being a drink for older people. Herbal medicine producers, such as Minuman Rempah Indonesia, have innovated by adding natural sweeteners to attract Gen Z. The gap in this study lies in the low interest of Gen Z in herbal medicine, despite the many innovations in taste made by producers. This study emphasizes the importance of continuous innovation in herbal medicine production to strengthen its position in the health tourism sector.

Abstract

Globally, halal tourism is viewed as a niche market with new needs and wants. This has motivated researchers to explore its prospects in Muslim-majority areas. Data were collected from 150 Muslim tourists using a judgment sampling approach. Existing scale instruments measured the social environment, facilities, and food as attributes of halal tourism and their effect on tourist satisfaction. Multiple linear regression was used to analyze the relationships between the research variables. The results confirm that the social environment and food have a significant, but partial, effect on tourist satisfaction. Facilities do not have a significant effect on satisfaction. However, all attributes—social environment, facilities, and food—work together to significantly affect tourist satisfaction at tourist attractions in Batu City. The social environment is the dominant factor influencing tourist satisfaction at Batu City tourism sites.

Abstract

The likelihood of an individual leaving home is influenced by their motivation to travel The human desire to change one’s environment serves as a driving force for travel, while the attractiveness of a destination functions as a pull factor that encourages visitation. However, an increasing tendency among destination managers is to focus primarily on physical appearance and facilities, which can result in destinations appearing similar and lacking distinctive characteristics. This study aims to investigate the role of destination personality and its five trait dimensions—excitement, sincerity, sophistication, competence, and ruggedness—in shaping the destination image of Mount Bromo using a quantitative approach. A total of 224 respondents were selected through purposive sampling, with eligibility criteria requiring participants to be at least 17 years old and to have visited Mount Bromo at least twice. Data collected using the Destination Personality Scale were analyzed through multiple linear regression analysis. The results indicate that the five destination personality traits simultaneously influence destination image. Partially, the traits of excitement, sophistication, and ruggedness have a significant role in shaping destination image, while sincerity and competence do not exhibit significant partial effects. These findings provide practical insights for the development and management of Mount Bromo as a tourist destination

Abstract

This study aims to identify the potential of mangrove ecotourism and formulate appropriate development strategies in Pagatan Besar Village, Takisung District, Tanah Laut Regency, South Kalimantan Province. The method used is a descriptive quantitative approach, with data collection conducted through purposive sampling, involving 63 tourists, 23 residents, and 14 related parties. The analysis was carried out using the ADO-ODTWA and SWOT approaches. The results of the ADO-ODTWA analysis indicate that the mangrove area in Pagatan Besar Village has high potential for development as an ecotourism destination, based on from its natural attractions, ease of access, and visitor enthusiasm. Based on the SWOT analysis, the position of the development strategy falls in quadrant I, indicating that strengths such as biological wealth and community involvement must be optimally utilized to capture available opportunities, including increasing interest in nature-based tourism and government support. The recommended strategic priorities are improving facilities and infrastructure, strengthening the role of local communities, and promoting more effective development. This study contributes to the preservation of mangrove ecosystems and the development of sustainable ecotourism by planning strategies that consider environmental and socio-economic aspects. This study has limitations, including the small number of respondents and the survey’s limited scope, which was conducted only in one season. Consequently, the results do not accurately reflect the overall annual conditions. The study suggests further expanding the scope of the data and reviewing digital promotion strategies to expand the reach and participation of tourists

Abstract

Tourism in disaster-prone destinations should be carefully planned to mitigate potential impacts from imminent hazards that may result in catastrophic effects. This study explores how survivors of a volcanic eruption in Indonesia turn to tourism as a possible option to reclaim their livelihood. It also attempts to capture how local communities involved in the daily activities of tourism-related services get their economic benefits from tourism. Due to a volcanic eruption, the new landscape requires residents to shift their occupations from mainly agricultural-based jobs to service-based livelihood. This research applies a case study method, where the primarily data is obtained by a qualitative method with the social constructivism approach as its epistemological basis. The data is obtained using semi-structured interviews with selected participants determined by a purposive sampling technique. In addition to the qualitative data, this study enriches its discussion by administering a survey to local communities working directly in tourism using a purposive quota sampling method. This research shows that in terms of economic advantages, tourism impacts local communities positively regarding job opportunities and income. The shift of occupations, while easy for some residents who previously knew tourism, is a challenge for local people. Moreover, the economic advantages should not be the only consideration in developing tourism in disaster-prone destinations. One issue from this research is how community resilience can potentially be enhanced amidst the growing economic benefits and threats from potential hazards due to the eruption. Keywords: tourism, livelihood, disaster, economic benefits, volcano.

Abstract

Community readiness has been conceptualized in the literature as a multidimensional construct that combines community attitudes, perceptions, and knowledge of issues; perceived level of preparedness; resources, including existing efforts around a particular problem; and leadership—measuring Community Readiness Model (CRM), which produces how ready a community is to take collective action. The research aims to provide factors influencing community readiness, especially in developing a sustainable tourist village through the Sidomukti Park tourist attraction. Sidomukti Village was chosen because of a new sustainable tourism village development project in the form of the Sidomukti Park tourist attraction. Regional Spatial Plan of Bojonegoro Regency Year 2021-2041 also states that Sidomukti Village embodies a tourism cultivation area. The method and approach used in this research is quantitative with CRM assessment, which is then analyzed using SEM (Structural Equation Modeling) analysis to obtain factors that influence community readiness in developing tourist villages. Based on the calculation, it can be seen that the level of community readiness in Sidomukti Tourism Village is included in the initiation stage, with a readiness level score of 3.65. In addition, based on the SEM-PLS results, it can be seen that the factors influencing community readiness in Sidomukti Tourism Village are community knowledge about issues/problems, community knowledge about efforts, community climate, and resources.
