Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Large quantity and high-quality salt are demanded in Indonesia, yet the quality of salt produced by farmers is still low. Increasing salt quantity and quality is possibly done through the implementation of geoisolator technology. This study aimed to investigate factors affecting the decision of salt farmers to adopt geoisolator technology. The study was conducted at the salt production center in Madura Island. A survey on salt farmer was carried out during August-September 2018. A total of 190 respondents consisted of 131 salt farmers who adopted geoisolator technology and 59 traditional salt farmers were selected as a sample in this study. Factors affecting farmer decision to adopt geoisolator technology was analyzed using logit (logistic regression) model. The result of this study showed that the decision of salt farmer to adopt geoisolator technology was affected by the number of productive-age family members and the number of dependent family members, land area, farmer participation in the group, farmer participation in extension. Enhancement in the adoption of geoisolator technology needs synergy between extension agent and salt farmer group so that the mentoring process and knowledge transfer will be achieved.

Abstract

Corn play an essential role in providing food and feed for living things in Madura Island and other parts of the country. More than 80% of the Madura Island farmer, plant this commodity, thereby, making it a productive farming activity in this region. However, its level of productivity is still below average due to the farmers' risk preference. This research, therefore, aims to analyze the risk preferences and inputallocation used in corn farming. The multistage sampling was used to collect data from a total of 120 people in Bangkalan, Sampang, Pamekasan, and Sumenep Regencies located in Madura, while the Kumbhakar parametric model was used to analyze risks. The results showed that farmers are in the Risk Averse category due to poor utilization of seeds, manure, labor, and NPK fertilizer, compared to the recommended level of usage.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to analyze the role of rice’s price in household consumption patterns in Indonesia. The method used was the Quadratic Almost Ideal Demand System (QUAIDS). The data used were obtained from the National Social Economy Survey in 2016. The results show that when the price of rice increases by one percent, the demand for other carbohydrates, eggs-milk-beans, fruits also Cigarette and processed foods will be increase. Meanwhile, in other groups, when the price of rice rises, the demand will go down. Thus, it can be concluded that households still prioritize rice consumption in their daily consumption patterns compared to other commodity groups. Therefore, the government should develop policies that encourage people to consume more diverse food groups.

Abstract

In Indonesia, soybeans are categorized as secondary crops with high demand. Indonesian government still emphasizes soybean self-sufficiency and efforts to grow soybean production, but the low yields and limited profitability of soybeans imply that Indonesian farmers will continue to grow other crops, namely rice or corn. This study aims to identify whether the Semarang district government must issue  seed subsidies to support soybean competitiveness in terms of productivity and minimum prices so that it can compete with other crops, namely rice, and corn. Primary and secondary data are used in this study. Primary data were collected in a field survey in Bancak District. The sampling method uses a purposive sampling technique, which interviewed 45 farmers. Analyzed using descriptive statistics and competitiveness matrix analysis. The results showed that the analysis of soybean competitiveness was lower than rice and corn despite the existence of subsidy assistance.

Abstract

Cashews contribute significantly to the Indonesian economy because it is one of the exporting countries. However, volume of exports tends to fluctuate, so it is necessary to identify the influencing factors. This study aims to analyze volume of Indonesian cashew exports and its determinants. Time series data for 8 variables during 1985–2016 were analyzed descriptively by multiple regression models. The results again show fluctuations in export volume and value over 1985–2016 period. Lowest export volume occurred in 1989, but its value was in 1985. Highest export volume and value occurred in 2015. National cashew export volume depends on the domestic cashew price, exchange rate and income per capita. Peanuts and coffee have a complementary relationship with cashews, while sugar has a substitution relationship with this commodity. Cashews are an inferior goods.
