Many schools and universities in Indonesia have implemented combination learning or blended learning. Many factors influence student involvement in blended learning, including initial abilities, independent learning, and student attitudes. This study aims to determine the effect of initial abilities, learning independence and self-confidence on student involvement in blended learning. The initial ability variable is measured from the aspect of skills in using information technology, the willingness to use information technology, the availability of information technology, and confidence in the reliability of information technology. Learning independence is measured by not depending on others, disciplined behavior, a sense of responsibility, behaving based on initiative, and exercising self-control. The attitude variable of self-confidence is measured by confidence in using information technology, asking and answering questions, expressing opinions, and completing tasks on their own. Student involvement in online learning is viewed from 3 dimensions, namely cognitive, emotional and behavioral involvement. This study uses a non-experimental quantitative research design and is analyzed using Partial Least Square (PLS). Data was collected using a questionnaire and distributed to students in Indonesia. The study results show that learning using blended learning initial abilities, learning independence, and self-confidence affect student involvement.

Abstract

Character education is important to be implemented in students as early as possible and on an ongoing basis. School is a strategic place for character education because children from all walks of life will receive education at school. In addition, children spend most of their time at school, so what they get at school will affect the formation of their character. Therefore, character education must be applied to all levels of formal education, but a larger portion must be given to the elementary school level compared to other levels of education. This is because elementary school students are still not contaminated by bad qualities, so it is very possible to instill the noble character or character of our nation which will eventually stick in the souls of children until they grow up. In the practice of character education in schools, all components must be involved, including the components of education itself, namely curriculum content, learning and assessment processes, subject handling or management, school management, implementation of extracurricular activities or activities, empowering facilities and infrastructure, financing, and the work ethic of all members of the school/environment. Each component must mutually support the implementation of proper character education, cannot stand alone and must be sustainable.

Abstract

This study is aimed at enhancing students’ speaking skills utilizing VoiceThread (VT) in EFL context since most of the students perceived that they got difficulties in speaking skills. Despite the difficulties in speaking, they perceived that mastering English speaking skills was essential to support their academic and career in the future. Due to the limitation in learning English in class causing limited time to develop speaking skills, VT is proposed as an additional instructional learning platform to support students’ learning outside the class. Using Classroom Action Research (CAR), this study was carried out following the steps of CAR proposed by Kemmis and McTaggart, i.e. planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The research subjects were 34 students of Elementary School Teacher Education Study Program who were taking English course as one of the compulsory courses in the university. In utilizing VT, some procedures were carried out: 1) introducing VT, 2) introducing vocabulary and grammar used in the materials, 3) listening to an example how to do the task, 4) giving comments, and 5) getting feedback. At the end, after utilizing VT, it is found that VT can help students enhance their ability in speaking English.

Readiness to provide counseling and psychotherapy is indicated by the fulfillment of several requirements. Counseling can only be initiated when people recognize the need for change and are ready to engage in the change process. A psychological diagnosis provides information about the client's current problems or conditions, such as the possible causes of the client's problems, techniques used, and the counselor's predictions about the client's future outcomes or behavior, and also includes the client's strengths. This research method uses a literature review, where a literature review is a written summary of journal articles, documents, and books that explain theories and data that have occurred in the past or are currently developing. The purpose of the results and discussion of this article is to determine the extent of counselor readiness in the diagnostic process in psychotherapeutic counseling.
