Abstract

This study highlights the sahur-sahur tradition in Mempawah, which serves not only as a form of cultural heritage. The study aims to explore the sahur-sahur tradition beyond its understanding of culture, examining its appeal in da'wah and its positive implications on the social environment. Conducted through a descriptive-exploratory approach supported by oral history, the study gathers data from literature reviews, observations, and in-depth interviews with key figures, including custodian of the Amantubillah Palace, religious leaders, community figures, and administrators of Galaherang Kreasindo in Mempawah. The findings reveal that the sahur-sahur tradition encompasses religious, communal, and cultural dimensions, creating a rich cultural heritage. This tradition also carries a unique da'wah appeal, having evolved into a sahur festival that features diverse activities, such as sermons, religious studies, and artistic performances. Its social implications are evident in fostering community solidarity, promoting cultural tourism and stimulating creativity.

Abstract

The implementation of Islamic law through the establishment of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia is a long-standing historical phenomenon. This process has led to social fragmentation, resulting in the disintegration of the Indonesian people both within the nation and state. This article examines the progressive response of the Lirboyo Islamic Boarding School alumni and student communities to the democratic process by introducing the fiqh of nationality, particularly in light of the rise of salafism ideology. Specifically, this article focuses on the use of the fiqh of nationality as a logical counter to the puritanism paradigm, which views human subjectivity as limited to carrying out God's commands. The aim is to identify patterns in the exploration of the meaning of normative texts that promote social and humanist goals and religious values. Additionally, this article reveals social strategies employed in representing the fiqh of nationality in the public sphere. A qualitative approach was employed as a method to discover important aspects of text exploration strategies and patterns. To provide more detailed text patterns and exploration, interviews were conducted with several senior students who initiated the discourse on the fiqh of nationality, as well as with several caregivers. The research findings indicate that the fiqh of nationality emerged as a result of a dynamic dialectic with citizenship phenomena at the local and global levels, which seeks to counter the tendencies of certain groups to generate monolithic religious propositions and understandings.

Abstract

Childfree is the view of married couples who decide not to have children. Childfree also became the talk of the Indonesian people when Gita Savitri, an influencer promoted the childfree campaign in Indonesia. Childfree has two perspectives: some view childfree as something that is allowed, and some reject it. In addition to causing various perspectives among the public, childfree also causes differences of opinion among people who are experts in Islamic science. Therefore, with the differences in opinions, views, and laws, the author is interested in making childfree a research problem that needs to be discussed. According to the Qur'anic verses, the author chose Tafsir Al-Mis}ba>h} to find the perspective of childlessness. The purpose of this research is to complement the shortcomings of previous studies from the religious side. Data processing in this article is through the tah}li>li> method. The tah}li>li> method itself is an analysis of the verses of the Qur'an studied from one verse, or letter, whose order is adjusted to the systematics of the Uthma>ni> mush}af. Tafsir Al-Mis}ba>h} views children from three perspectives, namely lust, humans are created in pairs, and children are sustenance.

Abstract

This paper reveals descriptively the textual basis of Muhammad Abdullah Darraz’s thoughts as stated in his work Dustūr al-Akhlāq fī al-Qur’ān: Dirāsah Muqāranah li al-Akhlāq al-Nażāriyyāt fī al-Qur’ān. It aims to confirm the extent of the text analysis model used by Darraz in formulating the concept of Islamic morality. The researcher used a qualitative research type and a content analysis approach by tracing the interpretation of the verses of the Koran and the background to the criticism built by Darraz. This research makes Dustūr al-Akhlāq fī al-Qur’ān a material object and the critic of morality as a formal object. The fīndings are as follows: Fīrst, in his thought project, Darraz uses Qur’anic epistemology by indirectly using al-Ghazali’s maqāṣīd al-Qur’ān method. So, with this method, he succeeded in finding forms of commands in various pronunciations of the Qur’an to confīrm the Shari'ah of overall morality. Second, Darraz proved that Islamic morality differs from Western morality based on empiricism and is not value-free. This is preceded by constructive criticism of the existing Islamic treasures and their further development. On the other hand, it applies destructive criticism to Western views on morality. In short, Darraz's thought project is an anti-thesis effort to the conventional concept of morality that has developed by offering an original reference to understanding the Koran.

Abstract

The values of prophetic education contained in Surah al-Saffat: 99-111 hold significant relevance for Islamic education, particularly in addressing contemporary challenges in character and spiritual development. Understanding the educational approach of Prophet Ibrahim As. and its application to Prophet Ismail As., as narrated in these verses, provides critical insights into nurturing values aligned with Islamic teachings. This research aims to uncover the values of prophetic education conveyed in these verses and their relevance to modern Islamic education. Using a library research method, this study analyzes the prophetic narrative within Surah al-Saffat 99-111. The findings reveal core elements of Islamic education embedded in Prophet Ibrahim's teachings to his son, including obedience, patience, sincerity, and trust in Allah, which form the foundation of strong spiritual education. When these values are implemented in modern education, educators can foster students’ personalities grounded in Islamic spiritual principles, shaping a generation with noble character, faith in Allah, and a positive impact on their communities.

Abstract

This study aims to highlight the impact of qirāʾah on Islamic law. This study also explains Ibn Ḥayyān's interpretation in interpreting the verse on usury so that it has an impact on Islamic law. This research is descriptive-analytic research using a literature study. This study describes the interpretation put forward by Abū Ḥayyān, which is then analysed by using qirāʾāt shādhdzah in interpreting legal verses, which is devoted to the verse that discusses usury. The findings of this study indicate that Abū Ḥayyān's interpretation of QS. al-Baqarah: 279-280 emphasises the compatibility between one verse and another, by understanding the causes of the revelation of the verse, and referring to the principle of al-ʿibrah bi-ʿumūm al-lafẓi lā bi-khuṣūṣ as-sabab. Differences in qirāʾah enrich the understanding of the verse linguistically. This study concludes that qirāʾāt shādhdhah can be used to support or strengthen legal understanding, thus adding depth to linguistic legal interpretation.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the phenomenon of transformation and hybridity practices in Islamic philanthropic institutions in Indonesia by carrying out research at the Pos Keadilan Peduli Umat (PKPU) from 2001 to 2023. This research employs a qualitative method, utilizing in-depth interview methods, observation, and institutional document analysis. The theoretical approach employed is the hybridity of Homi K. Bhabha, which is moderately helpful in explaining how Islamic philanthropic institutions have a role between two poles of values, namely normative Islamic values and global humanitarian values. This theoretical research also uses Marie Juul Petersen's institutional criticism model  to comprehend institutional integration, differentiation, and dynamics. The results of this research indicate that PKPU fundamentally changed its institution into the Human Initiative (HI) to take advantage of the global humanitarian market, expand humanitarian work, and manage institutions in the style of Western management by renegotiating its institutional identity while remaining spiritual but professional, Islamic but universal and able to connect to the global community. The PKPU also established two institutions, the Indonesian Zakat Initiative (IZI) and the Waqf Initiative (IWakaf), to focus on developing the potential of zakat and waqf for Muslims in Indonesia. The changes in PKPU show a dynamic, synergistic, and adaptive institutional development model to extend the market and innovation that continues to grow in humanitarian and development contributions.

Abstract

Following the dissolution of the Ottoman dynasty in 1924, Turkey experienced profound political transformations. Transitioning from a monarchy under the Ottoman Empire to a republican system under Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the country embraced secularism as a foundational principle. This article explores the political rhetoric of Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the current President of Turkey, who has revived the concept of Neo-Ottomanism to shape Turkey's developmental trajectory and regional ambitions. By analyzing political statements, policy documents, and public discourses, this study investigates how Erdogan's administration employed Neo-Ottomanism not only to evoke a nostalgic vision of the Ottoman Empire’s grandeur but also as a strategic framework for asserting Turkey's regional influence and political dominance. The article argues that Neo-Ottomanism is a symbolic tool for national identity construction and a practical instrument for projecting geopolitical power.
