Abstract

Abstract. This paper was aimed at finding out to what extent reciprocal teaching could improve the ability of the first year students of SMA Negeri 2 Tandun, Rokan Hulu, Riau in comprehending narrative texts. The participants of this research were 32 students of the first year students of SMA Negeri 2 Tandun, Rokan Hulu, Riau. This research was conducted in 2 cycles. The data were collected through (1)observation sheet which was applied to know the students’ activities during teaching and learning process, (2) objective test was done to measures students’ achievement, and (3) field note was done to obtain information about teacher, the students’ activities and teacher’s performance during the implementation of reciprocal teaching. The research findings can be briefly explained as follows; firstly, the students’ ability in comprehending narrative texts could be improved by using reciprocal teaching. Before the research was done, the mean score of students’ pre-test was 60.94, up to 68.02 in the post-test 1, and up again to 75.21 in the post-test 2. After the research has done for cycle 1, the mean score of students’ reading ability was 68.02. In the cycle 2, it increased up to 75.21. Secondly, the students’ activeness increased from cycle 1 to cycle 2. This improvement happened because this reading comprehension strategy was appropriate to be implemented to the class.Keyword : Reciprocal Teaching, Reading, Narrative Text

Abstract

Abstract: This experimental research aimed to measure how significant the effects of teaching metacognitive strategy in comprehending reading texts and the correlation between the variables. The sample of this research was the second year students of SMA Negeri 12 Pekanbaru. The participants were 35 students. The Null hypothesis was: There is no significant effect of teaching metacognitive strategy towards students reading comprehension achievement. The Alternative hypothesis was: There is a significant effect of teaching metacognitive strategy toward students reading comprehension achievement. The data were collected by means of reading comprehension test. The reliability of the test was 0.68 (high). The research finding revealed that: (a) the mean score of post-test (84.9) was higher than the mean score of pre-test (72.2) after the treatment. It means there was an enhancement to the mean score of the students. (b) after being calculated, it was found that the standard deviation and standard error for pre-test respectively were 9.41 and 1.56 while for post-test were 7.11 and 1.21. (c) the correlation (rxy) between the variables was 0.971 (very strong). (d) the value of “t” observed was 26.38. The degree of freedom (df) was 34. The value of df in 34 were 2.03 (the level of significance 5%) and 2.72 (the level of significance 1%). According to data analysis of this research, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of teaching metacognitive strategy towards reading comprehension achievement by the second year students of SMA Negeri 12 pekanbaru.Keywords: Metacognitive Strategy, Teaching Metacognition, Reading Comprehension Achievement.

Abstract

Abstract:This research is based on cultural assimilation in Tembilahan district, Indragiri Hilir regency between Banjar society and Melayu society as the majority society. The formulation of this research is what is the supporting factors that influence the assimilation process of Banjar society in Melayu environment of Tembilahan district, Indragiri Hilir regency. The aim of this research is to know the supporting factors that influence the assimilation process of Banjar society in Melayu environment of Tembilahan district, Indragiri Hilir regency. The population of this research is 8657 and the sample is 70 with sampling is the process selecting. The data instrument is 25 questionnaire and 6 interview question. The data is analyzed with qualitative descriptive analysis. From the analysis, writer got 51.43% as the dominant answer for chances to be balance in economy aspects, 59.72% for respect the other cultures, 53.21% for the fair attitude from the authorities in society, 55.71% for the similarities of cultural element, and 54.29% for the same enemies from other aspect. Based on Suharsimi Arikunto, dominant is set between 50.01% - 70.00%, so the hypothesis “The Tolerance and Amalgamation Factors toward the Assimilation Process of Banjar Society in Melayu Environment of Tembilahan District, Indragiri Hilir Regency” is rejected or ignored. Abstract

Abstract: The results of that study are expected by every high school and achieve minimum mastery criteria. Lack of student learning outcomes are influenced by many factors. One is the learning prosess in the classroom. The research is classroom action research that aims to improve learning process and mathematics achievement with applied the approuch model of Think Pair Square. The subject of this research is student of class IX1 SMP Negeri 22 Pekanbaru in the first semester academic years 2014/2015, there are 32 students in the class, consist of 12 boys and 20 girls. The research are two cycles, each cycle has four stages, which are planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. At the end of each cycle, daily tests are carried out. Data collected through observation and tests in the form of daily tests. Observation is used to collect teacher and student activities during learning process, test is used to collect mathematic outcomes and will given in form daily test. The results show the activity of teachers and students in learning has been in line with the lesson plan and increase in students from the base score with the percentage 15,63% to 37,5 % on the first daily test and 71,88% on the second daily test. Results of this research indicate that the application of Structural Approach to Cooperative Learning Model Think Pair Square can improve learning process and improve the mathematics learning outcomes math class IX1 SMP Negeri 22 Pekanbaru in the first semester academic years 2014/2015. Abstract

Abstract: The research was classroom action research that aims to improve learning process and mathematics learning achievement with applied the cooperative learning think pair square structural approach. The subject of the research is students of class X8 SMAN 2 Siak Hulu in the second semester academic years 2013/2014. There are 36 students in the class, consist of 18 girls and 18 boys with heterogeneous academic ability. This research is execieted in two cycles, and at the of every cycle end  carried out mathematics achievement test. Data collected through observation and mathematics achievement test. Analysis data of observation was performed with narrative descriptive analysis. This research result in showed an increase in students from the base score with the percentage 30,5 % to 52% on the first test and 69,45% on the second test. This research result in indicates that the Learning Cycle 5E (LC 5E) can improve learning process and students' mathematics learning outcomes math class X8 SMAN 2 Siak Hulu. Abstract

Abstract: This research is based on the low of students math achievement at grade VII-7 Junior High School 21 Pekanbaru in even semester the academic years 2013/2014. It can be seen from achievement of Mastery Minimum Criteria for set lesson, only 12 students (30%) by learning process conducted teacher-centered (conventional). The research was classroom action research to improve learning process and improve students math achievement by implementing Quiz Team strategy in cooperative learning. The research subject as much as 40 students, consist of 20 male and 20 female. The research consist of two cycles and at the end of every cycle carried out math test. The instruments of data collecting are observation sheets and math achievement tests. The data of observation were analyzed in narrative descriptive and the data of math achievement were analyzed in descriptive statistical. The result of narrative descriptive analysis showed that there is the improvement of learning process after the action on the first and second cycles. The result of research showed that there is an increase percentage amount students from base core to math test I, that is 30% until 50% as much as 20% and from math test I to math test II, that is 50% until 80% as much as 30%. The conclution: the implementation Quiz Team strategi in cooperative learning could improve learning process and improve student’s math achievements at grade VII-7 Junior High School 21 Pekanbaru in even semester the academic years 2013/2014.  Key Words: Students Math Achievement, Quiz Team Strategi, Cooperative Learning,Classroom Action Research

Abstract

Abstract: This research discusses about the results of the error analysis using i-keiyoushi and na-keiyoushi on student essays. The purpose of this study was to determine the types of errors that appear in any use of i-keiyoushi and na-keiyoushi and percentage of errors in the use of adjectives i-keiyoushi and na-keiyoushi.This research is a qualitative research with descriptive method. This research was conducted in Japanese Language Education department Teacher is Training andEducation Faculty of the Riau University. The research data was obtained from three theme of essay with the total of 80 essays.The basic theory used in this study is the surface strategy taxonomy proposed by Heidi Dulay et al.This stages of this reseach consisted of identifiying errors, caculating the precentage of errors, and analizing the errors of the sentences.The results of this study shows that the type of errors which occurred the most is misformation error with the total of 29 out of 70 errors, while the least error is misordering error with the total of 5 out of errors. The total of the other types are 13 errors for omission, 12 errors for addition, and11 errors for alternating form. It shows that the students have goodunderstanding in using i-keiyoushi and nakeiyoushi in their writings. Keywords:       Error Analysis, sakubun, writing,  i-keiyoushi, na-keiyoushi

Abstract

  Abstract: The purpose of this study is to find students ability of SMAN 2 Pekanbaru in using question tags. This research focuses in grammar, especially for question tag in simple present tense with “be”, simple past tense with “be”, simple present tense with verb, simple past tense with verb, and modal auxiliaries.The instrument used by the writer to collect the data for this study isdrama script and full of incomplete dialogues. Try out was conducted to check validity and reliability of the test. There were 31 students as samples from XI science 1 of the second year students of SMAN 2 Pekanbaru. Based on the research finding, it can be found: first, the ability of the students in using question tags is infair ability level.Second, the students’ scores in using question tags in simple present tense with “be” is 57,5, simple past tense with “be” is 66,1 , simple present tense with verb is 57,5, simple past tense with verb is 67,1, and modal auxiliaries is 58,6. As a result,the highest score obtained by the students in identifying question tags in simple past with “verb”. It is 67,1 that falls into fair ability level, andthe lowest score that the students get is in identifying question tags in simple present tense with “verb”. It is 57,5 which falls into poor ability level.   Keywords:Ability, Using, Question tags.

Abstract

Abstract: This classroom action research was aimed to find out if the story telling technique could improve the speaking skill of the second year students of SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Pekanbaru.The participants were 28 students. The data was collected by using observation sheet,speaking tests, and field notes. The research finding indicated that the application of using story telling technique could improve students’ speaking ability both at the first cycle and second cycle. The result of pre-test shows the average score of students speaking ability was 48.2. It improved to 64.9 on the post-test 1 and 76.1on the post-test 2. It was also proved that applying story telling technique in teaching speaking could improve students’ interest and motivation to speak and share ideas with their friends in groups. In addition, applying story telling technique could also improve students’ ability to speak English in terms of grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, fluency, and comprehension.
