Abstract

The Research is held in a manufacturing company that manufactures cigarettes. The problem that occurs in the company is the ineffectiveness of the process of drafting documents such as organization chart and job description along with job evaluation at the Service Level Agreement in the Compensations & Benefits (C&B) department as the result of waste. Transportation waste occurs as a result of the form of the documents is in the form of hardcopy. Overprocessing waste occurs as a result of operator error in doing the work, so it is necessary to repeat the work process. The analysis technique used in this research is Value Stream Mapping (VSM) which is one of the tools of lean manufacturing. VSM is used as a tool to identify waste from the classification of value added activity and non-value added activity. The elimination of transportation waste is done by using an Electronic Document (e-doc). The elimination of overprocessing waste is done by setting a job family template, setting a complete document checklist, and checking spelling through excel.

Abstract

Modules and videos are materials that can be used for training, which allows participants to learn independently. PT. X desires to design training modules and videos about communication styles so that supervisors can learn independently and mitigate offline training. The purpose of this study is to design modules and videos about communication styles for supervisor. These training modules and videos are designed based on analysis of communication style of supervisor and Heffner’s main communication styles theories. The main communication styles consist of passive, aggressive, and assertive. The ideal communication style is assertive, whereas passive and aggressive communication style are usable in certain situations. The analysis was conducted based on viewpoints of the leader and staff. The analysis results shows that supervisor have an assertive communication style, so it’s ideal and must be maintained consistently. The modules and videos designed are in accordance with the characteristics of training modules and videos, and have been validated by the company.

Abstract

This study aims to standardize the container yard at one of the shipping company. The company is currently going to expand their business by building a new container yard, but does not know the requirement of container yard area, facilities, and workers needed. The company once bought container yard area but the area is too big for their needs. The standardization made covers the number of conveyances, the number of container yard workers, the number of facilities along with the minimum size of the facility, container yard facility layout, and the minimum area of container yard. The method used in the design of the container yard standardization is related to the facilities layout and based on the company's current container yard situation. The results of this study indicate that the container yard standardization design is better viewed from the percentage reduction in moment layout in one of the container yard by 9.87%.

Abstract

The research was conducted to eliminate the type of folding mouth defect in the production output at PT X. Folding mouth defect is the cause of leakage in the bottle. The problem is seen based on customer complaint data in 2020, namely 19% of customers complained about leaking bottles and the company has a target to achieve zero defects in products received by consumers. Efforts to eliminate the type of folding mouth defect are carried out using the Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control (DMAIC) stages to analyze the root cause of the problem and provide a proposed improvement plan that will be carried out. Analysis of the causes of the problem is done using the help of fishbone diagrams. Four factors cause the problem of folding mouth defects, namely man, machine, method and material factors. One of the root causes of problems in folding mouth defects is a loose blowpin. Improvements that can be made to eliminate folding mouth defects are to carry out an overall audit of the machine and replace abnormal parts.

Abstract

One of the challenges experienced by many organizations today is the high rate of employee turnover. This is no exception for PT X. High employee turnover rates, especially those that occur voluntarily can have a negative impact on the organization, both related to tangible and intangible costs. The level of employee turnover that occurs voluntarily at PT X in 2017-2019 has an average of 5.45%-5.77% with an increasing trend from year to year. Y Department is a function of Human Resources that runs job desc under the pillars of employee engagement. Through Y Department, the company expects to reduce voluntary turnover. The voluntary turnover effort is designed based on the identification of the main factors causing voluntary turnover. Identification is done through the Spearman 's Rho and Kendall’s tau correlation test, then proceed with ordinal regression modeling of employee resignation reasoning data and employee assessment of the company. Confirmation of the needs of some active employees is also taken into consideration.

Abstract

PT X is a coachbuilder company that was founded in 1973.  PT X produces two types of vehicle bodies, namely: minibusses and buses. In order to meet consumer demand, the company uses a make to order strategy. The production department plays an important role, and the warehouse department as a supporter of the production department, therefore a good relationship is needed between the two departments, one of which is ordering and shipping components. The system for ordering and delivery of components now, there is no planning for ordering components, which causes a delay in the production process. Improvements were made by creating an ordering and delivery information system for components, also make a support information system for the Microsoft Dynamics GP program that is already used in the company. Support Information system using Microsoft Macro Excel program. The improvements that have been made can accelerate the component ordering process.

Abstract

The rapid development in technological advances has increased the competition among companies in the information and communication sector in making superior products that demanded by customers, one of which is smartphone. This research was conducted to identify trends in customer’s interest in selecting second-hand smartphones, low-end smartphones, and refurbished smartphones. Data is collected using online questionnaire (google form) with the target of student respondents and offline questionnaire with the target of worker respondents (security, cleaning service, industrial employees, etc.). The Analytical Hierarchy Process methodis used to determine the preferences of smartphones alternatives desired by respondents. Low-end smartphones are the main choice of student and worker respondents.

Abstract

Purchasing department is one of the most important departments because the company relies on the raw goods purchased by the purchasing department. The company also has suppliers or vendors of the raw products that the company needs. Vendor selection is an important task for every company, especially the purchasing department itself. Each vendor that has been selected requires a vendor evaluation to determine the assessment for each vendor that the company has used before. The vendor's assessment has several criteria that must be assessed in the vendor's assessment. Some of these criteria are the quality of the products they provide, the quantity or quantity of each item they send, the accuracy of the delivery by the vendor, the service provided by the vendor, and the last is the comparison of the price of the selected vendor with other vendors. The weighting assessment for each of these criteria was carried out using the AHP paired weighting method. The AHP method will be used to obtain a weighted value for each predetermined criterion. This weighting will later be used to assess each vendor in the company. The results of calculations using AHP state that these data are consistent and can be weighted.

Abstract

In starting a new business or becoming an entrepreneur, one can face many obstacles. This study aims to see what obstacles are experienced by S-1 graduates of the Faculty of Industrial Technology in entrepreneurship. Constraints faced can be seen from what factors influence in starting a new business. At the beginning of the study, the constraint factors in entrepreneurship were collected through previous research. The constraint factors that have a relationship with building a new business are as follows: entrepreneurship planning, Internal, leadership, environment. The method used to collect data in this research is by distributing questionnaires to graduates of the Faculty of Industrial Technology. The number of respondents obtained is 98 people who come from 4 study programs. Analysis of the results of the questionnaire using Structural Equetion Modeling with SmartPLS 3.0. shows that entrepreneurship planning has no significant effect on entrepreneurship constraints. Meanwhile, Internal, leadership, and environmental factors significantly influence or have an impact on the obstacles that may be faced in entrepreneurship.

Abstract

PT X is a garment company based in Surabaya. Currently, it has a conventional and unstructured order fulfillment system. This condition caused uncertainty in product delivery and causing customer complaints. The company is managed by a director, vice director, and administration staff. It also only has a production and quality control department. Customer orders are produced in a make-to-order system which means that production in PT X have a high variety. A new order fulfillment system is proposed to help the company to have a more structured and organized system so customer complaints can be minimized and raise the customer’s satisfaction. The suggested system started with the order receiving process until the product is sent to the customer. New standardized documents are also created for the new system and a few improvement on production process is added. Steps on how to implement the new system are also suggested to help the company on adapting the new system.
