Abstract

Land is categorized as suitable for use as embankment and subgrade based on the California Bearing Ratio (CBR) value. According to the Indonesian National Standard (SNI), the soil bearing capacity value requirement is categorized as good if the CBR value based on field testing is ≥3% and based on the laboratory the value is ≥6%. However, not all soil categories meet these requirements, for example soft clay soil. Soft soil layers have characteristics such as tending to be very compressible, low shear resistance, low permeability, and low bearing capacity. Efforts to increase the bearing capacity of the soil so that it can be used for construction are carried out by soil stabilization. This study aims to determine the increase in the bearing capacity value of soft clay soil with a mixture of beach sand with variations of 10.5%, 15%, and 20% and to determine the optimum content of beach sand that can increase the CBR value. The results of the study showed that the higher the percentage of beach sand, the higher the CBR value, the optimum content of beach sand is with the addition of 20% with a CBR value of 24.80% and is included in the category of very good material for base or subbase.

Abstract

The SIBS Women's Dormitory Building Construction Project faced significant delays and design alterations, causing changes in project costs and timelines. This study aims to identify delay factors, evaluate cost and time performance using the Earned Value Method (EVM), and estimate the probability accuracy of cost and duration using Monte Carlo simulation. Data were collected through direct observations, stakeholder interviews, and document analysis. Main factors causing delays include adverse weather, challenging site accessibility, delayed material deliveries, and a design change from three to four floors. Initial completion estimates of 623 days showed an accuracy probability of 2.03%, while the revised EVM estimate of 652 days significantly improved accuracy to 73.91%. The probability accuracy for remaining costs of Rp1.948.950.796 using EVM was 19.61%. The findings suggest combining EVM with Monte Carlo simulation effectively enhances predictions and management of construction project costs and durations.

Abstract

Urban drainage systems play a crucial role in managing stormwater runoff to prevent flooding, particularly in highly urbanized areas like Gotong Royong Street. Urbanization and land-use changes have increased the risk of surface runoff, while existing drainage channels often fail to accommodate rising flood discharges. This study aims to evaluate the capacity of existing drainage channels against the design flood discharge using hydrological and hydraulic analyses. The methods include calculating the design flood discharge using the rational formula and performing hydraulic analysis with Manning’s equation to assess channel capacity. The results indicate that the drainage channels at points 1 and 2 are insufficient to handle the design flood discharge for 2-year and 5-year return periods, while channels at points 3 and 4 meet the capacity requirements only for the 2-year return period. This capacity mismatch highlights the need for channel upgrades to mitigate potential flooding. Recommendations for future research include developing GIS-based simulation models to comprehensively identify flood-prone areas and assessing the impact of land-use changes on drainage systems. This study contributes to the planning of more adaptive drainage infrastructure in response to dynamic hydrological conditions.

Abstract

Traffic congestion on Teuku Umar Barat Road is attributable to the road's location in the center of Denpasar, where there are very dense concentrations of shops. The purpose of this study is to analyze the performance of the Teuku Umar Barat road section in West Denpasar and to develop alternative solutions to address traffic congestion on the road. The method for calculating road section performance follows the Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines 2023 to determine free-flow speed, capacity, and performance. The results of the analysis of the performance of the Teuku Umar Barat road section, with a 2/2 TT type of road, experienced performance problems with a degree of saturation value of 1.04, exceeding the road section performance eligibility requirements, which is ≤ 0.85, with the speed of passenger cars used being 26 Km/hour and the travel time used being 0.019 hours. After the implementation of traffic management, namely the implementation of the odd/even road system on the Teuku Umar Barat road from North to South and South to North, starting from the Marlboro intersection to the Gunung Salak intersection, the performance of the Teuku Umar Barat road improved with a decrease in the degree of saturation value to 0.48 and the speed of passenger cars used being 48 Km/hour. The travel time used with a segment length of 500 meters is 0.010 hours. The results of this study are expected to serve as a technical reference for local governments in the planning and management of traffic on urban road sections experiencing high levels of saturation.

Abstract

In the role of transportation, there are two main elements that need to be considered: road volume and capacity. When the number of vehicles continues to increase without a corresponding improvement in road capacity, traffic problems such as congestion, accidents, and decreased efficiency of road segments become inevitable. This study aims to evaluate traffic management and engineering on Jalan Erlangga Timur, with a focus on identifying problems and developing effective and sustainable solutions. The methodology includes traffic volume surveys, road infrastructure inventory, vehicle speed measurements, and analysis of the road’s Level of Service. The analysis was carried out based on the Indonesian Road Capacity Guidelines (PKJI) 2023. In addition, this research also considers traffic condition forecasting for the next two years to maintain or improve the performance of the road segment. Findings indicate that Jalan Erlangga Timur experiences significant congestion during peak hours, with a Level of Service categorized as F, indicating highly unstable and disrupted operational conditions. The proposed recommendations include increasing road capacity, priority management, and demand management to improve road performance. The primary contribution of this research lies in providing a technical database and strategic recommendations for the Semarang City Government to optimize traffic management. This study goes beyond documenting existing conditions by offering sustainable solutions to transform underperforming road segments into more efficient and safer transportation corridors

Abstract

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) is an important thing in the world of work because workers are guaranteed occupational safety and health both physically and psychologically. However, the implementation of OHS in several companies, especially in construction projects, is still lacking in attention, which can lead to the risk of work accidents. Work accidents in a construction project can be minimized if you know and understand the risk of accidents in the work environment. This study aims to analyze the risk of work accidents in the Laska Ciater Resort Hotel construction project. The data analysis technique uses a descriptive qualitative method using the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) method to identify hazards and risks of work accidents. The results of the study showed that there were four occupational risk assessments, namely low risk, medium risk, high risk, and very high risk. The low risk level was found in 10 jobs with a total of 26 potential hazards. The medium risk level was found in 10 jobs with a total of 31 potential hazards. The high risk level was found in 6 jobs with a total of 6 potential hazards and the very high risk level was found in 1 jobs with a total of 1 potential hazards. Risk control can be categorized into 3 aspects, namely the worker aspect, the work environment aspect, and the work tool aspect.

Abstract

Ocean waves are one of the important aspects of oceanography in planning coastal structures, determining port layouts, shipping routes, and managing the marine environment. There are many factors that influence ocean waves, one of which is wind speed and direction. Waves can generate energy to shape the beach, create currents, and cause forces that act on coastal structures. Therefore, wave data is needed as a parameter in planning coastal structures. This study aims to determine the wave height and wave period at Pangali-ali Beach, Majene, based on a wind speed distribution model and to compare the wave forecasting results using the SPM (Shore Protection Manual) method with Altimetry Satellite data. The results of this study indicate that the dominant wind direction based on wind data over 10 years (2014-2023) is from the Southeast with an occurrence frequency of 27.2%. The wave height forecast using the SPM method occurred in 2014, measuring 2.63 m with a wave period of 7.25 s.

Abstract

The rapid development of infrastructure has led to an increase in demand for infrastructure materials. The use of natural materials in concrete production is becoming increasingly uncontrolled with the continuation of current infrastructure development. With the increase in marble production in Indonesia, the marble powder waste produced has become an environmental problem that needs to be addressed. This study aims to determine the compressive strength of concrete with the addition of 0%, 15%, 25%, and 35% marble powder waste. The research design used in this study is quantitative with a experimental research type. Data analysis uses the ACI (American Concrete Institute) standard. The test specimens in this study were made using cylinders with a diameter of 15 x 30 cm with a planned concrete compressive strength of ƒʾϲ 21.7 MPa. The percentage of marble powder waste used varied between 0%, 15%, 25%, and 35% with a planned age of 7 and 28 days. The results showed that the addition of marble powder waste affected the compressive strength of the concrete, with an optimal value of 23.79 MPa achieved at 28 days with a variation of 15%.

Abstract

This study aims to predict road damage conditions based on the International Roughness Index (IRI) value using the Roadroid application on class III roads with low traffic volume in Lumajang Regency. This study is important because the road section has not undergone maintenance since 2018, thus potentially experiencing accelerated degradation of pavement performance. IRI data for 2023 was obtained through a field survey using the Android-based Roadroid application and compared with IRI data for 2018 measured using the National Association of Australian State Road Authorities (NAASRA) tool to determine the rate of increase in damage and predict conditions for the next five years. The results showed that the average IRI value in 2023 was in the severely damaged category with a value between 12.5–20.5 m/km. The relationship model between IRI and Average Daily Traffic (ADR) of heavy vehicles produced the equation y = 0.2889x + 1.2993 (R² = 0.935), which indicates a significant effect of heavy vehicle volume on increasing road surface roughness. Predictive simulations indicate that several road segments are expected to reach a state of minor damage within the next 2–4 years, even with overlays. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of historical and survey data with the Roadroid application for predictive modeling of road damage on low-traffic sections as a basis for preventive maintenance planning.

Abstract

The Wisnu Murti Intersection in Tabanan Regency is a four-legged signalized intersection with three phases and a central roundabout. It serves as a primary connector between the Denpasar–Gilimanuk National Road and Ngurah Rai–MH Thamrin Road. Congestion and delays, particularly during peak hours, highlight the need to evaluate its performance and traffic signal control system. This study aims to assess the existing performance of the intersection using the Indonesian Highway Capacity Manual (PKJI 2023) and PTV Vissim microsimulation, employing indicators such as queue length, delay, and Level of Service (LOS). The analysis revealed poor performance, with a degree of saturation (Dj) of 1.37 and an average delay of 120.9 seconds/pcu (LOS F). Vissim simulation results showed the longest queue occurred on the east approach, reaching 436.34 meters with an average delay of 85.17 seconds/pcu. A recommended signal control scenario applying the early cut phase with a 113-second cycle significantly improved performance, reducing queue length by 69.9% and average delay by 60.6%. Adaptive green time distribution across phases provided better efficiency compared to the scenario without early cut. Therefore, the application of the early cut strategy is considered flexible, responsive to fluctuating traffic flow, and feasible for implementation at the Wisnu Murti Intersection.
