Abstract

Excellence theory yang dikembangkan oleh James E. Grunig menyebutkan bahwa organisasi yang menerapkan excellence communication memiliki tiga komponen (sphere) yang saling berkaitan satu sama lain, yaitu knowledge core, shared expectation, dan participative culture. Studi ini bertujuan untuk melihat sejauhmana excellence theory dapat diterapkan pada lembaga pemerintah sebagai badan publik yang hingga kini sedang menjalani proses reformasi birokrasi. Penelitian dilakukan di Biro Humas Badan Pemeriksa Keuangan Republik Indonesia (BPK-RI), dengan menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa, pada organisasi yang belum sepenuhnya menjalankan budaya partisipatif, khususnya antara pimpinan BPK-RI sebagai koalisi dominan dengan Biro Humas sebagai komunikator, maka penerapan excellence theory tidak optimal. Hal ini karena, budaya partisipatif (participative culture) adalah dasar dari adanya hubungan yang sinergis antara harapan koalisi dominan dengan harapan komunikator (shared expectation), yang pada gilirannya juga memengaruhi bagaimana komunikator mengimplementasikan pengetahuan (knowledge core) dalam menjalankan tugasnya.

Abstract

Interpersonal Communication has a significant role on the level of juvenile delinquency. This is reflected by studies that showing interpersonal communication can improve, giving motivation between students. The method adapted in this study with a qualitative descriptive study. The subjects is Colombo Yogyakarta high school students were 12 students from the total population of 88. Determination of informants is based on consideration the wealth of information. Everett M Rogers approach is used as a bookmark in communications where the idea is transferred from one source to another source with the intent to change behavior. In this research, Newcom ABX model adapted to describe aspects of the emergence of juvenile delinquency. While Osgood-Schramm circular model is able to explain the results of this study that the feedback does not occur dynamically. The objectives in these research are not effective on interpersonal communication. It arises from the students that are lazy, introvert character, ansupported parents, as well as differences in arguments between students, teachers and parents.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pola komunikasi keluarga dalam memenuhi konsumsi nutrisi bagi anggota keluarga. Metode yang digunakan deskriptif kualitatif menganalisis pola komunikasi internal dan eksternal. Objek penelitian ini adalah keluarga peternak sapi perah di Lembang Jawa Barat. Penelitian ini menemukan pola komunikasi dalam menentukan konsumsi nutrisi pada anggota keluarga didominasi oleh ibu. Faktor internal yang menentukan pola komunikasi keluarga adalah waktu yang digunakan anggota keluarga untuk saling berkomunikasi, rendahnya pengetahuan ayah dan ibu tentang konsumsi nutrisi, serta keterbatasan ekonomi. Sedangkan faktor eksternal yang menentukan pola komunikasi keluarga dalam menentukan konsumsi nutrisi adalah lingkungan sosial tempat tinggal keluarga peternak yang cenderung kurang berinteraksi dengan masyarakat dari wilayah lain, dan kurangnya peran organisasi masyarakat dalam memberikan pengetahuan tentang nutrisi seperti koperasi,organisasi PKK dan sekolah. Peningkatan pengetahuan anggota keluarga tentang konsumsi nutrisi melalui peran organisasi masyarakat atau lembaga dapat mengoptimalkan pola komunikasi keluarga menjadi lebih seimbang.

Abstract

Religion as a doctrine/ideology has formed as a belief toward to the existence of the God almighty and culture as the implementation of human relationship among human and the God. Different understanding of God’s essence has created some kinds of religions and beliefs. It causes difference of culture (value, norm, behavior) among religions adherer. Even the differences can be opposite each other. As the example, Moslem believes in monotheism and Hindu believes polytheism. This research purpose is examining how do the societies giving meaning of symbolic in having the interaction between Hindu and Moslem community in Mataram City. From the research it can be examined that of adhering a religion (both Hindu and Islam) basically because following their ancestor. They have no courage to challenge what their ancestor have line up. They have no courage to ask the reason even to discuss it to interpret the meaning of the symbols. Their fear to insult others becomes the obstacle to them. They use their own point of view and some general information that they have got to interpret another religion. Nevertheless, social interaction can happen well. In this case, Moslem community is much more closed than Hindu.

Abstract

This writing aims to introduce Foucault’s life and perspectives, especially to communication studies’ students. This writing consists of Foucault’s background, his idea, research based on it and critiques. Foucault’s life background has influenced many of his ideas, and this writing focuses on his perspectives of Power and Discourse. This writing also gives example to students on how to use Foucault’s idea in Communication field. One of the examples is research about the construction of normative body discourse to the self-concept of single and fat adult women. The research used Michel Foucault’s power relations and discourses, Berger-Luckman’s construction of social reality, and Cooley-Mead’s symbolic interactionism as the framework. The research had succeeded to categorize discourses and self-concepts as the conclusion of the con- struction of normative body discourse to the self-concept of single and fat adult women in Jakarta. As an ending part, this writing shows critiques of Foucault’s idea from other social theorists.

Abstract

Life style and fashion have been inseparable parts of the modern society. Those are not seen from its cover but its essence. Economic and media industrial globalization are factors which form the condition. Nowadays, the new industries, such as mall, fashion, real estate, entertainment industry, food industry etc, continuously grow. Those are followed by the growth of the life style as references for the public those are considered whether it is good or bad, up to date or out of date. Capitalism has influenced not only for women but also men. It has also conquered of religion and carried out of co-modification of religious symbols.

Abstract

This study attempts to scrutinize how mass media deal with pluralistic society and cul- ture. Some cases found in USA, England, and Australia are primarily examined first. The study then goes further to explore extensively what and how mass media in Indonesia deals with the issue of pluralistic society and culture. The study suggests that Indonesia’s mass media deal with this issue in a dynamic term from the period of New Order to post-reformation period.

Abstract

Budaya lokal Jawa dalam era globalisais semakin kurang diminati oleh generasi muda di Yogyakarta, dibandingkan dengan budaya Barat atau budayaK-Pop dariKorea. Halinijika didiamkan akan semakin hilang dan tentu saja tidak lestari lagi. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui keluarga Jawa di Yogyakarta dalam mensosialisasikan budaya lokal kepada anak-anaknya. Penelitian menggunakan metode kualitatif deskripstif, pengumpulan data dengan wawancara mendalam kepada 24 keluarga JawaYogyakarta yang memiliki anak remaja di DIY (Daerah IstimewaYogyakarta). Hasil penelitian mengindentifikasikan bahwa keluarga Jawa di Yogyakarta berusaha mensosialisasikan budaya lokal yaitu bahasa Jawa dan sikap hidup orang Jawa. Orang tua Jawa mensosialisasikan karena mereka memaknai bahasa dan sikap hidup orang Jawa sebagai identitas orang Jawa dan harapannya anakanak bisa bersikap hormat dan menghargai orang lain. Disamping itu orang tua juga masih mengharapkan agar budaya lokal dapat dimasukan dalam kurikulum sekolah. Harapan tersebut kiranya akan terwujud dengan disahkan Undang-Undang Kesitimewaan Yogyakarta oleh pemerintah RI yang mengakomodasikan budaya lokal.

Abstract

The pornography context previously and up to now still becomes a huge controversion in our society which is complicated to be in the same point of view. Because there are many vari- ables which influence the concept, moreover in determining the way of policy, such as culture and custom. Basically, there should be a tool that control (social control) the behavior in order that it can be responsible, particularly for those kinds of thing in expressing the moral value of sexuality and sensuality. Because there are commonly perspective which are always used to analyze or to discuss teh concept of pornography, they are mart point of view and pornography it self (religion, culture, custom, etc). This research intends to know the teenagers perception related to the pornography depic- tions on the television programmes and also want to know their responses according to the television programmes which contain of pornography. This research is designed particularly for teenager between 16-18 years old and it was researched in three of senior high school in Palu, Central Sulawesi. The sample were collected is stratified random sampling by giving the criteria to make the social class of the whole population. The result shows that the teenagers thought that most of the television programmes such as film (41,8% male and 33,3% female) and “sinetron” (15,4% male and 20,6% female) contain of pornography. Because ther are many erotic scenes like kissing and showing the breast which is not approriate to be showed in public area.

Abstract

Issue of terrorism came to surface in this early twenty first century through a number of acts violence that have killed hundreds and injured thousands of people. At the same time, these events have been dominated the mass media contents. Principally, mass media and issue of terrorism are inseparable. This paper examines the relationship between mass media and terror- ism. It is done through the deconstruction of the concept of terrorism and how terrorism is understood as a communicational process. Further, this paper examines how mass media relates to terrorism.
