Abstract

A company engaged in the garment industry is facing problems that inhibit the production process. These problems comprise an excess of product defects beyond the specified limits, a considerable rate of product returns, delays in product shipment, and disorderly arrangements in storing raw material. This study aims to determine the root causes of problems and provide recommendations for improvement using the concept of lean six sigma. The waste assessment model is used to identify the dominant waste, while the value stream analysis tools is a method used to analyze the causes of the dominant waste. From the research results, four dominant wastes are identified, namely waste defects, unnecessary inventory, waiting and unnecessary motion, with percentages of 27.02%, 15.92%, 14.32% and 14.0% respectively. The results of the analysis using mapping tools show the details of waste in each dominant waste. Proposed recommendations for improvement are made using the failure mode and effect analysis based on the highest risk priority number for each dominant waste. The recommendations proposed by the researchers include implementing a standard operating procedure and work instruction for the sewing process; scheduling machine maintenance using reliability centered maintenance II; planning and scheduling materials using material requirement planning; implementing line balancing; and designing name tags, visual displays, and storage rack layout.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the level of readiness of the Batik Tulis Small and Medium Industry in Sidoarjo district in implementing One Village One Product (OVOP) by mapping the assessment criteria based on the Internal Factor Evaluation (IFE) and External Factor Evaluation (EFE) matrices, as a first step in conducting analysis using the Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) method. OVOP is a way to develop the potential of an area that was pioneered by Dr. Morihiko Hiramatsu has succeeded in alleviating poverty in Japan's Oita Prefecture through the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) by motivating the economies of several developing countries albeit under different names. Base on the identification of the performance of 30 small and medium industries (SMI) spread across 5 batik centers, it can be seen that the level of readiness is 81%. The results of the 82 evaluation criteria means that the product quality is good and has been classified as 4 star even though the marketing area is only in the country. So that the value still needs to be increased on several indicators (A). Aspects of Production, Product and Community Development, (B). Marketing Aspects and Product History, (C). Aspects of Product Type, Quality, and Market Opportunities. Of the 25 indicators of OVOP product assessment for the batik category, when mapped in the IFE matrix, 8 are seen as strengths and 4 of weakness, while in the EFE matrix, 7 of opportunity and 6 of threats are seen.

Abstract

Understanding quality in manufacturing starts with defect identification and improvement finding. Reliability that influenced by equipment design or working methods or environment has led to concept of improvement with six sigma method and this has been absorbed in Indonesia industries as well. This article discusses about six sigma implementation in Indonesia from various business and industries. The method is to review research articles that are published within 2016-2020 with keyword DMAIC and six sigma. The results from 52 selected articles is obtained average 3.68 sigma value of Indonesia industries within year 2016-2020 with the least value 1.10 from crude palm oil refinery and the highest is 5.10 from bagging process of sugar refinery. However, six sigma application is not always satisfying  concerning its suitability function, requirement of industries, culture, local regulation, and internal business concern, especially in terms of efficiency and cost. Future research is suggested utilizing industry 4.0 concept to enhance six sigma implementations.

Abstract

The world is entering industry 4.0. The digital enlarges to machine maintenance known as troubleshooting. Troubleshooting is a series of actions needed to deal with machine damage treatment. Problems that often occur in troubleshooting are that technicians are not in the location, the information is still in the form of printed books, the risk of books being lost, books slipping, and the location of books far from the location of machine failure. This research was to solve this problem by developing an application called Production Machine Troubleshooting Information System (SITMEP) in relational database environment. This system was developed by integrating several methods such as machine damage knowledge obtained from tacit sourced from mechanical technicians, experts in their fields and explicit knowledge sourced from machine manual books. GT is to combine knowledge with machine hierarchies and it supports systems for database and SQL. The tool used was MS Access with VBA.

Abstract

In the manufacturing industries, the main problem in process of operating CNC milling machine was chatter effect (self-excited vibration) which increases the quality of the surface roughness. In this study is to determine optimal value of parameters for chatter and surface roughness. The chatter measured using accelerometer MPU-6050 with Arduino by software LabVIEW-2019 based on peaks-FFT value and the surface roughness measured by SJ-301 tester. The research parameters like variable helix angle, spindle speed, feed rate, and depth of cut using stainless steel 304 by Taguchi method. The optimum parameters value obtained are variable helix 35/38 degrees, spindle speed 3000 RPM, feed rate 150 mm/min and depth of cut 0.4 mm. Based on ANOVA value, the variable helix angle and depth of cut are found to be significant for chatter and surface roughness. The depth of cut was high contribution by ANOVA chatter by 93.84% and surface roughness by 91.93%.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the application of the basic requirements of food safety standard, namely GMP and SSOP during the production process. The observations method for data collection in this study was through interviews of workers and owners. Evaluate of GMP and SSOP was carried out to see the effectiveness of conformity and non-conformity measures in carrying out the production process. The results of this study stated that the conformity assessment of the evaluation of the application of GMP and SSOP obtained a value of 42.50%-84.00%, with a deviation value of 185 from the overall value of 528 which means deviations in the moderate level so that the application of the GMP is said to be less in accordance with the provisions of the Regulation of the Minister of Industry No. 75 of 2010. The conformity assessment of the application of the SSOP obtained a value between 20.00%-84.00%, with a deviation value of 45 from the overall value of 160 which means that the deviation is in a moderate level or does not meet the FDA's provisions regarding SSOP as stated by government regulation, Number 28 of 2004 concerning food safety, quality, and nutrition. The high rate of deviations in the application of GMP and SSOP indicates a low level of contamination prevention during the production process.Â
