Abstract

This study aimed at analyzing representation of ten sociocultural sub aspects, namely: age; gender; social distance and status; politeness strategies; genres; registers; major dialects; and Background Knowledge of the Target Language Group (BKTLG) and Crosscultural Awareness (CcA), in an e-textbook, Developing English Competencies (DEC). Discourse Qualitative Content Analysis was the research method and DEC was the data corpus. Data were gathered through e-textbook observation and were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. Findings showed that: age group of >12-18 years contributed 40% of the total 117 units; 1.098 units signified man, and 321 units were of women; 71% of conversational texts showed intimate social distance and the rest 29% indicated distant one; negative politeness strategies were employed most often (40.12%); non-drama/prose/poetry genres occupied 66% of the entire units; informal words and/or expressions were the most frequently appeared register; British English dialects gained 70% of the total 197 occurred units; 62% of the texts were BKTLG-related, leaving the rest 38% of them CcA-related. Abstract

Penelitian ini adalah penelitian pengembangan dengan menggunakan model Sugiyono. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi masalah dan kebutuhan RPP yang digunakan di SMK Triatma Jaya Singaraja.mendesain dan mengembangkan RPP berbasis karakter serta mengukur efekivitas dan kualitas dari RPP yang dikembangkan di SMK Triatma Jaya Singaraja. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis secara deskriptif dan kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan RPP yang digunakan di SMK Triatma Jaya belum mencantumkan nilai karakter bangsa baik di kegiatan pembelajaran maupun pada penilaian RPP. Kegiatan pembelajaran cenderung monoton dan terjadi pengulangan materi. RPP yang dibuat berdasarkan Juknis Pengembangan RPP SMA yang disusun oleh Direktorat Pengembangan SMA dengan menambahkan penilaian karakter bangsa. RPP berbasis karakter dikembangkan dalam bentuk RPP yang terintegrasi. Hasil uji coba menunjukkan RPP yang dikembangkan efektif dan memiliki kualitas yang baik. Kata Kunci : rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran, nilai-nilai karakter bangsa This study was a Research and Development study (R&D) used Sugiyono’s model which aimed at identifying problem and the needs of the lesson plans in SMK Triatma Jaya Singaraja, determining the suitable design and developing character based lesson plan in SMK Triatma Jaya, measuring the effectiveness and the quality of the lesson plan developed. The data of the present study were analyzed descriptively and quantitatively. This result showed that the existing lesson plans did not clearly state the values of nation character and the assessment and it was not explicitly stated on the learning activity. The learning activity seemed monotone. There seemed to be materials repetition. The materials must be suitable with the students’ department. The lesson plans developed were designed based on technical guideline of lesson plan development proposed by Board Directors of Senior High School Development (2010) with character assessment as an addition. The lesson plans were developed in form of integrated lesson plan. The lesson plans developed were effective and the quality is excellent.keyword : lesson plan, the values of nation character

Abstract

Studi eksperimen ini bertujuan untuk menginvestigasi pengaruh pembelajaran berbasis masalah dan asesmen kinerja terhadap kompetensi membaca dan menulis siswa kelas sepuluh SMAN 1 Mengwi pada tahun ajaran 2011/2012. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan 2x2 faktorial. 96 siswa dilibatkan sebagai sampel penelitian. Mereka dipilih dengan teknik sampling acak. Data kompetensi membaca dan menulis dikumpulkan melalui tes essay. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan Analysis Varian Multivariat (MANAVA) Temuan penelitian ini adalah 1) pembelajaran berbasis masalah berpengaruh secara signifikan terhadap kompetensi membaca dan menulis siswa yang terjadi secara simultan dan terpisah, 2) asesmen kinerja berpengaruh secara signifikan terhadap kompetensi membaca dan menulis siswa yang terjadi secara simultan dan terpisah, 3) terdapat interaksi signifikan antara model pembelajaran dan tipe asesmen terhadap kompetensi membaca dan menulis yang terjadi simultan dan terpisah, 4) tidak terdapat interaksi signifikan antara model pembelajaran dan tipe asesmen terhadapak kompetensi membaca siswa, 5) terdapat interaksi signifikan antara model pembelajaran dan tipe asesmen terhadapak kompetensi menulis siswa.Kata Kunci : pembelajaran berbasis masalah, asesmen kinerja, kompetensi membaca, kompetensi menulis This experimental study aimed at investigating the effect of Problem Based Learning and Performance Assessment on reading and writing competencies of the tenth grade students of SMAN 1 Mengwi in the academic year 2011/2012. This research applied 2x2 factorial design. 96 students were selected as sample through random sampling. Data of students’ reading and writing competencies were collected by using essay tests. The students’ answers were scored by using analytical scoring rubric. The acquired data were analyzed statistically by Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) at 5% significance level. This research discovers: 1) there is a significant effect of Problem Based Learning which occurs simultaneously and separately on students’ reading and writing competencies, 2) there is a significant effect of performance assessment which ocurs simultaneously and separately on students’ reading and writing competencies, 3) there is a significant interaction between teaching model and assessment type on students’ reading and writing competencies which occurs simultaneously, 4) there is no significant interaction between teaching model and assessment type on students’ reading competency, and 5) there is a significant interaction between teaching model and assessment type on students’ writing competency.keyword : Problem Based Learning, Performance Assessment, reading competency, writing competency

Abstract

This research aimed at investigating the effect of RAFT strategy and anxiety upon writing competency. It was an experimental research with 2x2 factorial design. The result showed that (a) there was significant difference in writing competency between the students taught by RAFT strategy and those taught by conventional strategy,b) there was an interactional effect between the implementation of RAFT strategy and the students’ anxiety, (c) there was significant different in the writing competency between the students’ with high anxiety, taught by RAFT strategy and those who are taught by conventional technique, (d) there was significant different in the writing competency between the students’ with low anxiety, taught by implementing RAFT strategy and those who are taught by conventional strategykeyword : anxiety, RAFT strategy, writing competency.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan, (1) pelaksanaan prinsip kerja sama pada tindak tutur guru dan siswa (2) dampak pelaksanaan prinsip kerja sama pada tindak tutur guru dan siswa, (3) penyimpangan prinsip kerja sama pada tindak tutur guru dan siswa, dan (4) dampak penyimpangan prinsip kerja sama pada tindak tutur guru dan siswa terhadap pembelajaran bahasa dan sastra Indonesia di kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Blahbatuh. Dalam mencapai tujuan ini, peneliti menggunakan rancangan penelitian deskriptif-kualitatif. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah guru dan siswa di kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Blahbatuh. Secara umum objek penelitian ini adalah pelaksanaan prinsip kerjasama pada tindak tutur guru dan siswa dalam pembelajaran bahasa dan sastra Indonesia di kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Blahbatuh. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan metode observasi dan wawancara. Data yang diperoleh dianalis secara deskriptif kualitatif yang meliputi tiga tahapan yaitu, (1) re uksi data, (2) penyajian data, dan (3) verifikasi dan penarikan simpulan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa : (1) Percakapan dalam pembelajaran yang dilakukan guru dan siswa mengandung pelaksanaan maksim prinsip kerja sama. Maksim prinsip kerja sama yang muncul adalah, maksim kuantitas, kualitas, relevansi, dan pelaksanaan. (2) Dampak pelaksanaan prinsip kerja sama adalah terciptanya percakapan yang efektif, penggunaan alokasi waktu yang efisien, menunjang keaktifan siswa, dan membantu pencapaian tujuan belajar dengan baik. (3) Di samping adanya pelaksanaan prinsip kerja sama, ditemukan juga penyimpangan terhadap prinsip kerja sama ini. Penyimpangan ini ditandai dengan adanya pelanggaran terhadap maksim kuantitas, kualitas, relevansi, dan pelaksanaan. (4) Dampak penyimpangan adalah terganggunya, efektivitas pencapaian tujuan belajar, ketepatan pembicaraan, fokus perhatian siswa, efektivitas penggunaan waktu, dan memunculkan suasana humor. Kata Kunci : prinsip kerja sama, tindak tutur, pembelajaran bahasa This study aims to describe , (1) the implementation of the principle of cooperation in teachers and students speech acts, (2) the impact of the implementation of the principle of cooperation in teachers and students speech acts, (3) deviation of the principle of cooperation in teachers and students speech acts , and (4) the impact of cooperation on the principle of deviation speech act of teachers and students towards learning Indonesian language and literature in grade XI of SMA Negeri 1 Blahbatuh . In achieving this goal, researchers used the descriptive - qualitative research design. Subjects in this study were the teacher and grade XI students of SMA Negeri 1 Blahbatuh. In general, the object of this research is the implementation of the principle of cooperation in the speech act of teachers and students in learning Indonesian language and literature in grade XI of SMA Negeri 1 Blahbatuh. The data was collected through observation and interviews. The data obtained were analyzed by descriptive qualitative which includes three phases, namely; (1) data reduction, (2) the presentation of the data, and (3) verifications and conclusions. These results indicate that: (1) Conversations in learning that teachers and students containing the implementation of the cooperative principle maxims. The principles of cooperation maxim that arise are the maxim of quantity, quality, relevance, and execution. (2) Impact of the implementation of the principle of cooperation is the establishment of conducive learning and effective conversation, efficient use of time allocation, support the involvement of the student, and help meet the goals of learning well. (3) In addition to the implementation of the principles of cooperation, was also found deviations from the principles of this cooperation. This deviation is characterized by the existence of a violation of the maxim of quantity, quality, relevance, and execution. (4) Impact of deviation is disruption, the effectiveness of the achievement of learning objectives, the accuracy of the discussion, the focus of attention of students, effective use of time, and create an atmosphere of humor. keyword : principle of cooperation, speech acts, language learning

Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian deskriptif kualitatif ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis (1) jenis interferensi bahasa Wewewa dalam bahasa Indonesia tulis siswa, dan (2) ) tingkat interferensi bahasa Wewewa dalam bahasa Indonesia tulis siswa kelas V SD Inpres Waiwagha Kecamatan Wewewa Selatan Kabupaten Sumba Barat Daya. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas V SD Inpres Waiwagha Kecamatan Wewewa Selatan Kabupaten Sumba Barat Daya.. Objek penelitian ini adalah interferensi bahasa Wewewa dalam bahasa Indonesia tulis siswa kelas V SD Inpres Waiwagha Kecamatan Wewewa Selatan Kabupaten Sumba Barat Daya. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan metode dokumentasi yaitu karangan tulis siswa dikumpulkan sebagai bahan kajian yang mengakibatkan jenis dan tingkat interferensi. Data dianalisis dengan teknik analisis kualitatif melalui tiga tahap, yaitu reduksi data, penyajian/klasifikasi data, dan penarikan simpulan. Ketiga tahap ini bermanfaat untuk memilah data yang akurat aagar penelitian ini menjadi valid. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) jenis interferensi bahasa Wewewa dalam bahasa Indonesia tulis siswa kelas V SD Inpres Waiwagha Kecamatan Wewewa Selatan Kabupaten Sumba Barat Daya terjadi dalam bidang morfologi, semantik, dan sintaksis; (2) tingkat interferensi bahasa Wewewa dalam bahasa Indonesia tulis siswa kelas V SD Inpres Waiwagha Kecamatan Wewewa Selatan Kabupaten Sumba Barat Daya terjadi dalam ranah morfologi, semantik, dan sintaksis. Pada ranah morfologi terjadi interferensi pengingingkaran ketatabahasaan target. Pada ranah sintaksis ada dua jenis interferensi yaitu interferensi substitusi, dan interferensi pengingkaran ketatabahasaan target. Interferensi dalam ranah semantik adalah interferensi substitusi, terjadi karena konsepsi makna bahasa Wewewa berbeda dalam makna bahasa Indonesia. Proses interferensi dalam ranah morfologi, sintaksis dan semantik adalah proses aktif produktif karena bahasa donor secara aktif digunakan oleh subjek. Tingkat interferensi bahasa Wewewa terhadap bahasa Indonesia tulis siswa dalam ranah morfologi, semantik, dan sintaksis dapat diklasifikasikan rendah, berdasarkan karangan tulis siswa. Penelitian ini dapat memberikan masukan kepada guru,siswa bahwa salah satu penyebab kesulitan siswa dalam belajar bahasa Indonesia karena masih begitu kuatnya ketergantungan mereka kepada struktur bahasa pertamanya (bahasa Wewewa). Guru sebaiknya menerapkan pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia dengan cermat dan menggunakan pendekatan sosiolinguistik. Kata Kunci : Interferensi, bahasa Wewewa, bahasa Indonesia. ABSTRACT This qualitative descriptive study aims to describe and analyze (1) the interference type of Wewewa language to Indonesian language of students writing, and (2) the interference level of Wewewa language to Indonesian language of students writing on class V SD Inpres Waiwagha South Wewewa District South-West Sumba Regency. The subjects were students of class V SD Inpres Waiwagha. Object of this study is the interference of Wewewa language to Indonesian language of students writing on class V SD Inpres Waiwagha South Wewewa District South-West Sumba Regency. Data collection method used is the method of documentation. The data were analyzed through three steps, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The results showed that (1) the type of language interference in Indonesian Wewewa fifth grade elementary school students write Waiwagha Instruction District of South Wewewa Southwest Sumba occurred in the field of morphology, semantics, and syntax; (2) the level of interference in Indonesian language Wewewa fifth grade elementary school students write Waiwagha Instruction District of South Wewewa Southwest Sumba occur in the realm of morphology, semantics, and syntax. In the realm of grammatical morphology interference pengingingkaran targets. In the realm of syntax, there are two types of interference that substitution interference, and interference denial grammatical targets. Interference is interference in the domain of semantic substitution, occurs because Wewewa different conceptions of the meaning of language in Indonesian meaning. The process of interference in the realm of morphology, syntax and semantics is an active process of productive because the donor language is actively used by the subject. Wewewa interference level language to write Indonesian students in the realm of morphology, semantics, and syntax can be classified low, based on student essay writing. This research can provide feedback to the teacher, the students that one of the causes of student difficulties in learning Indonesian because it is still so strong dependence on the structure of their first language (language Wewewa). Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis pembicaraan guru laki dan perempuan pada Mata Pelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Analisis tersebut dimaksudkan untuk menemukan realisasi dari Mood pada pembicaraan guru, realisasi Mood pada peran guru, dan perbedaan antara pembicaraan guru laki dan perempuan yang kaitannya dengan realisasi Mood. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif-deskreptif dan analisis diskursus. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi seperti rekaman dan catatan lapangan. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan Analisis Mood yang dipopulerkan oleh M.A.K Halliday. Untuk mendapatkan analisis yang lebih dalam, data ditrianggulasi dengan menginterview partisipan, dua guru senior dan satu pakar. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data, temuan penelitian ini dapat dinyatakan sebagai berikut: (1) Guru laki menggunakan tujuh jenis speech function dan guru perempuan menggunakan delapan jenis speech function selama proses interaksi di kelas. Semua speech function tersebut pada umumnya direalisasikan dalam dua jenis: Typical clause Mood dan Non-typical clause Mood. (2) penggunaan secara dominan hampir di semua speech function pada peran tertentu, misalnya sebagai pengontrol, menununjukkan bahwa ada hubungan antara peran guru dengan realisasi Mood. (3) ada perbedaan ujaran guru laki dengan guru perempuan di dalam memilih sistem Mood di dalam mengungkapkan makna interpersonal kepada siswa seperti: memberikan informasi, memberikan pertanyaan, meminta siswa melakukan sesuatu, dan menawarkan siswa sesuatu. Factor idiologi, kultur dan social dari para guru tersebut diyakini sebagai faktor yang mempengaruhi perbedaan tersebut. Kata Kunci : Mood Structure, Teacher Talk, EFL Classroom This study aims at analyzing male and female teacher talk in EFL classroom. The analysis was meant to find out the realization of Mood in teacher talk, the realization of Mood in teacher’s role, and the difference between male and female teacher talk in terms of speech functions in relation to Mood realization. It was designed as a descriptive-qualitative research, and discourse analysis. Data were collected through observations i.e. recording and note-taking as the main source. The data were analyzed using Mood structure analysis suggested by M.A.K Halliday. To gain deeper analysis, the data were triangulated by interviewing the participants, two senior English teachers i.e. male and female teachers, and one linguist. Based on the results of the data analysis, the findings of this research can be stated as follows: (1) Male teacher employed seven speech functions and female teacher employed eight speech functions during their classroom interaction. Those speech functions were commonly realized in two types: Typical clause Mood and Non-typical clause Mood in making interpersonal meaning among the students. (2) The dominant use of almost all speech functions in a certain role i.e. a controller role indicates that there is a relation between teacher’s role and Mood realization. (3) There are some differences of male and female teacher talk in selecting Mood system in expressing interpersonal meaning to the students i.e. in giving information, in asking a question, in demanding the students to do something, and in offering something to the students. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan strategi komunikasi yang digunakan oleh guru bahasa Inggris di SMP Negeri 2 Sukawati. Penelitian ini meliputi jenis dari strategi komunikasi, alasan dari penggunaan strategi komunikasi dan persepsi siswa terhadap strategi komunikasi yang digunakan oleh guru. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah guru bahasa Inggris di SMP N 2 Sukawati di kelas tujuh dan delapan. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan beberapa instrument, seperti lembar observasi, kuesioner dan pedoman wawancara. Jenis dari strategi komunikasi didapatkan melalui mengobservasi dan merekam guru dalam proses belajar mengajar, sedangkan kuesioner digunakan untuk mengetahui persepsi siswa terhadap strategi komunikasi yang digunakan oleh guru. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 14 jenis dari strategi komunikasi yang digunakan oleh guru. Strategi perubahan kode adalah yang paling sering digunakan oleh guru. Strategi tersebut muncul sebanyak 35 kali di dalam proses belajar mengajar. Alasan dari guru menggunakan strategi tersebut adalah untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa selama proses belajar mengajar berlangsung dan membuat siswa mengerti mengenai materi. Data juga menunjukkan bahwa guru mendapatkan persepsi yang positif dari siswanya dalam menggunakan strategi komunikasi selama proses belajar mengajar. Kata Kunci : Strategi Komunikasi, guru bahasa Inggris, dan proses belajar mengajar. This study aimed at describing Communication Strategies used by Junior High School English teachers in SMP N 2 Sukawati. It includes kinds of Communication Strategies, the reasons of the use of Communication Strategies and the students’ perception toward Communication Strategies used by the teachers. The subjects of this study were Junior High School English teachers of the seventh and eighth grades of SMP Negeri 2 Sukawati. The data were collected by using some instruments namely observation sheet, questionnaire and interview guide. The kinds of Communication Strategies were gathered by observing and recording the teacher during teaching and learning process, while the questionnaire was used to investigate the students’ perception toward the Communication Strategies used by the teachers. The results of this study showed that there were 14 kinds of Communication Strategies used by the teachers. Code switching strategy was the most frequently used by the teachers. It occurred for 35 times in teaching and learning process. The reasons of the teachers used those strategies were to improve the students’ speaking abilities during teaching and learning process, and made them understood the material. The data also showed that the teachers got positive perception from their students in applying Communication Strategies during teaching and learning process. keyword : Communication Strategies, English teacher, teaching and learning process

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan instrumen self assessment untuk meningkatkan kompetensi menulis siswa sekolah menengah pertama kelas 8 di Denpasar . Penelitian dan Pengembangan digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Analisis kebutuhan dilakukan di tiga sekolah yang berbeda di Denpasar untuk mendapatkan kebutuhan yang diperlukan oleh guru. Terdapat dua metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu kuesioner dan wawancara . Hasil wawancara dan kuesioner kemudian dianalisis untuk mengetahui jenis self-assessment yang dibutuhkan . Berdasarkan analisis kebutuhan , ditemukan bahwa guru memerlukan self -assessment yang berfokus pada pengembangan siswa . Hasil analisis kebutuhan kemudian digunakan sebagai data untuk mengembangkan instrumen. Penelitian ini menggunakan model ADDIE dalam mengembangkan instrumen yang merupakan pendekatan sistematis untuk proses desain pembelajaran terdiri dari langkah-langkah model meliputi Analisis , Desain , Pengembangan , Implementasi , dan Evaluasi . Selanjutnya, untuk mengetahui kualitas instrumen, self-assessment prototipe dinilai oleh expert judges dan guru . Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa kualitas instrumen yang dikembangkan adalah baik berdasarkan hasil jugdments ahli dan guru . Dengan demikian, alat penilaian berbentuk self-assessment direkomendasikan untuk digunakan karena akan memberikan kontribusi yang berarti bagi pengembangan keterampilan menulis di sekolah-sekolah SMP di Denpasar .Kata Kunci : kompetensi menulis, penilaian diri, This study aimed at developing self-assessment instrument to improve the writing competency of grade 8 junior high schools students in Denpasar. Research and Development was employed for this study. The need analysis was conducted in three different schools in Denpasar resulting the needs required by the teachers. There were two methods used in this study namely questionnaire and interview. The result of the interview and the questionnaire were analyzed in order to know the kind of self assessment needed. Based on the need analysis, it was found that the teachers needed self assessment which focuses on the development of students. The result of the need analysis then used as a data to develop the instrument. This study used ADDIE model in developing the instrument which is a systematic approach to the instructional design process consist of for the steps of the model includes Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Furthermore, in order to find out the quality of developed self- assessment instrument the prototype were measured by judges and teachers. The finding shows that the quality of the developed instrument was good based on the result of the expert judgments and user judgement. Thus, the self assessment instrument is recommended to be used as it will result a meaningful contribution to the development of writing skills in junior high schools in Denpasar.keyword : self-assessment, writing competency

Abstract

Kata Kunci : Speech Acts, Analysis, Habibie Ainun This study aimed to analyze the types of speech acts and the classification of illocutionary speech acts occurred in the conversation of Habibie and Ainun in the film entitled Habibie and Ainun 2012. This study was a descriptive qualitative done on naturalistic inquiry on social phenomenon. The data were analyzed based on the theory of direct and indirect speech acts proposed by Yule (1996) and the analysis of the classification of illocutionary speech acts proposed by Searle (1977) consists of representative, directive commissive, expressive and declaration. Findings of this study showed there were 196 utterances of type of speech acts where the type of direct speech acts were 129 utterances (66%), meanwhile the type of indirect speech acts were 67 utterances (34%). There were totally 158 utterances analyzed as illocution where representatives were 90 utterances (51%), commisives were 39 utterances (25%), directive were 24 utterances (15%), expressive were 15 utterances (9%), and there was no declaration (0%). This study showed that the direct speech acts were the most dominant type of speech acts rather than the type of indirect speech act. In the types of illocutionary speech acts, representatives were the most dominant rather that the others types of illocutions. keyword : Speech Act, Analysis, Habibie Ainun
