Abstract

Posyandu cadres play a strategic role in supporting the transformation of primary health services. However, variations in their abilities in measurement, early detection, health education, and record-keeping remain a challenge. This community engagement program aimed to improve cadre skills through a refresher training based on the five core competencies outlined in the 2024 Ministry of Health Posyandu Cadre Skills Guidelines, while also assessing their competencies. The program was conducted from August to November 2025 in the working area of Puskesmas, Brebes District, involving 91 active cadres from 15 posyandu. A competency-based community empowerment approach was applied using hands-on practice, simulations, and field exercises supervised by health professionals. Skill assessments used structured observation checklists across the five core competency areas. Most cadres were at skill levels equivalent to Purwa to Madya, indicating readiness for formal certification. This competency-based training effectively strengthened cadres’ promotive and preventive skills and is recommended as a tiered training model at the puskesmas level to support primary care transformation indicators and accelerate stunting reduction.

Abstract

Safe food consumption is essential for adolescent health, particularly in school environments where snacks often contain excessive food additives. The low level of student awareness regarding the risks of such additives highlights the need for education to improve literacy and decision-making in choosing safe foods. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of food additive hazard education in empowering tenth-grade students at SMA X Pekanbaru. A pretest–posttest design was employed, involving 408 students in the pretest and 255 students in the posttest. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk normality test, the Mann–Whitney U test, and N-Gain calculations. The results indicate a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores, although the average increase was not substantial. The N-Gain value of 0.11 is categorized as low, influenced by the students’ initially high baseline scores and possible fatigue during the educational session, which caused some scores to decrease. Nevertheless, the educational intervention positively impacted students’ knowledge and awareness of food additive hazards. In conclusion, the intervention effectively strengthened students’ understanding and empowerment in selecting safe foods, although more interactive learning strategies are recommended to optimize outcomes.

Abstract

Leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease transmitted through the urine of infected animals, particularly rats, and remains a public health concern in various regions, including Banyumas Regency. Increasing rodent populations and poor environmental sanitation may increase the risk of disease transmission. This community service activity aimed to improve community knowledge and participation in leptospirosis prevention through education and rat control practices. The activity was conducted on July 10, 2025, in Panembangan Village, Cilongok District, Banyumas Regency, involving 30 health cadres. The methods used included health education, demonstrations of rat trapping techniques, interactive discussions, and pre-test and post-test evaluations. The results showed an increase in the average knowledge score of participants from 56.00 before the intervention to 82.00 after the intervention, with a statistically significant difference (p = 0.001). Participants also demonstrated improved understanding regarding environmentally friendly rodent control methods and the potential use of Bintaro fruit as a natural rodenticide alternative. This activity indicates that educational and participatory approaches are effective in improving community capacity in preventing leptospirosis through environmental-based rodent control.

Abstract

The success of breastfeeding is strongly influenced by the knowledge and skills of those who support mothers, including community health cadres. Aisyiyah and Nasyiatul Aisyiyah cadres play an important role in providing breastfeeding education at the community level; therefore, they require adequate knowledge and practical skills related to lactation management. This community service program aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of Aisyiyah and Nasyiatul Aisyiyah cadres in delivering education on breastfeeding and the benefits of breast milk. The training consisted of lectures, group discussions, demonstrations, and hands-on practice facilitated by experts in midwifery and maternal nursing. Knowledge improvement was assessed using pre-test and post-test evaluations, while skill acquisition was observed during practice sessions. A total of 32 cadres participated in the activity. There was an increase in knowledge after the training, with the mean pre-test score rising from 80.94 to 84.53 in the post-test, showing an increase of 3.59 points, Cadres also demonstrated improved skills in breastfeeding positioning, attachment techniques, and identification of lactation problems such as flat nipples and breast engorgement. The refresher training effectively improved the cadres’ competence in providing breastfeeding education. It is recommended that similar programs be conducted regularly to strengthen the role of cadres in supporting breastfeeding mothers in the community.

Abstract

According to data from the Indonesian Ministry of Health (2023), the prevalence of HIV in Indonesia is around 0.3% of the total population. HIV transmission is closely related to the Incidence Of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), where, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 1 million STIs occur every day worldwide. STI transmission is often associated with risky behavior and a lack of information about prevention. Risky sexual behavior is highly vulnerable among adolescents. To address this issue, promotions are carried out to help create a strong foundation for sexual health, reduce the prevalence of HIV and STIs, and improve overall quality of life. One of the target focuses for conducting health promotion is SMK Bina Profesi. The selection of SMK Bina Profesi as the location was based on the school’s support and openness toward the implementation of the community service program conducted by lecturers and students from Institut Helvetia Pekanbaru. The method used is health promotion through counseling. The health promotion provided has proven effective in increasing students' knowledge about HIV and STIs. The average score increased from 49.0 to 85.7, with improvements in all aspects, including basic understanding, transmission methods, prevention, and attitudes toward PLHIV. These results align with previous research emphasizing the importance of educating adolescents in the prevention of HIV and STIs. SMA Bina Profesi is expected to conduct regular health promotion activities in collaboration with guidance counselors and homeroom teachers.

Abstract

The high prevalence of child marriage remains a significant health and social issue that contributes to increased risks of dropout, teenage pregnancy, stunting, reproductive health disorders, as well as psychosocial and family economic problems. The KASTUNIK (Youth Cadres Ready to Delay Marriage) program was introduced as an innovative empowerment initiative for Youth Posyandu cadres through lectures, discussions, demonstrations, role play, and peer mentoring conducted over four meetings in May 2025, supported by booklet media to enhance the capacity of youth Posyandu cadres in educating adolescents about child marriage prevention. The participants consisted of 30 youth Posyandu cadres selected based on the criteria of being active in youth activities, aged 13–15 years, having good communication skills, and willing to participate in the entire series of activities. Evaluation was conducted using pretests and posttests to measure changes in the cadres’ knowledge and skills related to reproductive health and marriage age maturity. The analysis of changes before and after the intervention was performed by comparing the mean pretest and posttest scores. The strength of KASTUNIK lies in its interactive, community-based peer education approach, which is practical, easily implemented, and sustainable in supporting child marriage prevention.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TBC) remains a significant public health issue, particularly among children, with a high incidence rate in several areas of Banyumas Regency. In 2022, a total of 66 pediatric TB cases were reported, representing the highest number in the region. One of the major risk factors contributing to the severity of tuberculosis in children is poor nutritional status. Although tawes fish is abundantly available as a local food resource, its utilization as a nutritious dietary option for children remains limited and relatively unappealing. This community service program aimed to enhance community knowledge and skills in processing tawes fish into nutritious food products to support the improvement of nutritional status among children with tuberculosis. The program was conducted on August 24, 2025, involving 25 members of the Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK) cadres. The methods employed included nutrition education, health promotion, and hands-on assistance in the preparation of tawes fish nuggets. Evaluation results demonstrated an improvement in participants’ nutritional knowledge, with an average post-test score increase of 23.9% compared to the pre-test. This program was considered effective in strengthening community capacity to utilize local food resources as alternative nutritious foods to support the prevention and management of childhood tuberculosis.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a serious public health problem, including in the city of Semarang, with the East Semarang subdistrict recorded as the area with the highest incidence of cases. This condition demonstrates the need to strengthen public health literacy and cross-sector collaboration as part of a regional TB control strategy. This community service activity aims to increase the knowledge and understanding of stakeholders regarding TB control, while strengthening awareness of the urgency of cross-sectoral synergy. The activity was carried out in the form of Communication, Information, and Education (KIE) through material presentations, question and answer sessions, and the provision of modules. Evaluation was conducted using pre-tests and post-tests on 22 participants to measure changes in knowledge. The results of the analysis using the Wilcoxon test showed no statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores (p = 0.157), indicating that the participants already had a good level of prior knowledge before the intervention. However, there was a strengthening of understanding on crucial aspects, such as early identification, active screening, the role of health cadres, and the importance of cross-sector collaboration in TB control. This activity contributed to strengthening the capacity of stakeholders and encouraged regional readiness in supporting TB elimination through a more structured, integrative, and sustainable approach.

Abstract

Back musculoskeletal pain, particularly low back pain, is one of the most common occupational health problems experienced by industrial workers due to non-ergonomic postures, static activities, and repetitive movements over prolonged working hours. This condition has the potential to reduce comfort, work capacity, and productivity if not addressed through preventive measures. This community service activity aimed to improve workers’ knowledge and prevent complaints of back musculoskeletal pain through workplace health promotion based on ergonomic education and the implementation of a structured stretching program. The program was conducted in 2024 at PT Wahana Kasih Mulia, Cilacap Regency, involving 70 production workers using promotive and preventive approaches through education, demonstrations, hands on practice, and regular stretching assistance sessions. Evaluation was carried out by comparing workers’ knowledge levels and pain complaints before and after the intervention. The results showed an improvement in workers understanding of occupational health and ergonomics, as well as a reduction in complaints of back musculoskeletal pain following the implementation of the stretching program. The program was found to be easy to implement, well accepted by workers, and has the potential to be integrated as part of a sustainable musculoskeletal disorder prevention effort in industrial workplaces.

Abstract

The problem of organic waste accumulation in RW 011, Cipayung Village, is increasingly crucial due to the limited capacity of the landfill and the discourse of suspending waste collection. This condition risks causing environmental pollution and health problems. The CEMOT community service activity was carried out to increase public knowledge and awareness regarding waste sorting and organic waste management using Black Soldier Fly larvae (maggots) as bioconversion agents. Activities using educational-participatory design through counseling, maggot cultivation demonstrations, and mentoring were conducted. Evaluation was carried out using pre-test and post-test questionnaires on 17 participants, accompanied by observations of the practical process. The Wilcoxon test results showed a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores (p = 0.009), with an increase in the mean score from 5.2 to 8.0, indicating an increase in participants' knowledge regarding maggot-based organic waste management. Qualitatively, participants showed enthusiasm and interest in implementing maggot cultivation at home, although there were still limitations in participation and program sustainability. CEMOT has the potential to become a model for adaptive and sustainable community-based organic waste management.
