Abstract

As many as 15-25% of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) patients have the potential to experience diabetic foot ulcers and the rate of recurrence or recurrence of diabetic ulcers is 50% to 70% over 5 years.  A quarter of patients with Diabetes Mellitus have the potential to develop diabetic foot sores or diabetic ulcers and more than half to 70% have a recurrence of diabetes mellitus over 5 years. Recurrent diabetic ulcers have various impacts such as reduced quality of life, economic burden, and psychological, and social effects, even if not treated properly, they can lead to infection, amputation, and even death. The study aimed to analyze the relationship between family support and foot care compliance with the incidence of recurrent diabetic ulcers. The study design was a cross-sectional study, with a sample size of 50 diabetic ulcer patients and the family support measurement instrument was the Hensaring Diabetes Family Support Scale (HDFSS). The results of statistical analysis using the chi-square test obtained p value = 0.013. Patients who adhere to foot care experience recurrent wounds (12%) and those who do not comply with foot care experience recurrent wounds (34%). Statistical analysis using the chi-square test obtained p value = 0.039. It can be concluded that family support and compliance with foot care are related to the incidence of recurrent diabetic foot injuries, so it is recommended to comply with foot care and provide support for DM patients to prevent recurrent foot injuries.

Abstract

Control materials are used as indicators of monitoring the performance of laboratory examinations so that the results issued are valid. Method of assessing the implementation of External Quality Assurance (EQAS) used Variance Index Score (VIS). This study aims to determine difference between pooled sera, homemade and commercial lyophilizates on AST and ALT parameters based on VIS. This research used comparative descriptive with quantitative approach in December 2023-May 2024. Homemade lyophilizates performed at UBAYA technobiology laboratory, determination of true value performed at 2 reference laboratories and clinical chemistry laboratory Poltekkes Surabaya, and determination of VIS performed at 10 primary level clinical laboratories in Surabaya Raya which determined by purposive sampling. The statistical analysis results showed no difference between homemade and commercial control materials based on VIS to the true value and all participating laboratories, so it was concluded that homemade control materials could be used as a substitute in implementing EQAS.

Abstract

The Sungkai leaf (Peronema canescens Jack), which is rich in alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and phenolics, has long been used as a natural immune booster, particularly during the pandemic. With increasing concerns over the health risks of fluoride, such as dental fluorosis and systemic toxicity, the demand for natural alternatives in oral care has risen. This study aimed to formulate and evaluate the physical stability of a gel toothpaste containing Sungkai leaf extract by examining the effects of varying concentrations of Na-CMC (Sodium Carboxymethyl Cellulose) as a gelling agent. Using an experimental one-shot case study design, the physical stability of different concentrations of NaCMC (3%, 4%, 5%, and 6%) was assessed. Stability testing was performed on 5 sample formulations per concentration. The tests included organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, foam height, and viscosity over four weeks. The results showed that all formulations met the Indonesian National Standard (SNI No.12-3524-1995), with semi-solid consistency, distinctive Sungkai odor, and slightly bitter taste. The average pH ranged from 6.42 to 6.84, the foam heights were stable, and the viscosity increased with higher Na-CMC concentrations, confirming the stability of the formulation. These findings suggest that natural Sungkai leaf-based toothpaste could provide a promising alternative to traditional fluoride-based products, particularly in markets concerned about chemical ingredients in oral care products.

Abstract

This study evaluates an innovative dental holder designed to improve patient comfort and radiographic image quality in intra-oral periapical examinations. Conducted at Muhammadiyah University Semarang Dental and Oral Hospital, the research involved 30 patients who used the modified holder featuring a 20-degree tilt, biocompatible PLA material, and silicone pads. Results showed that 73.33% of patients experienced no nausea, and 93.33% had no allergic reactions, highlighting the holder's safety and comfort. Although 56.67% reported excessive oral pressure, 60% noted reduced pain due to the silicone pads. The holder also improved image quality, with 76.67% of patients acknowledging clear apical images, and 100% reporting no distortion or blurring. The study indicates that while the holder significantly enhances patient comfort and image quality, further design adjustments are needed to address size-related issues. Future developments should focus on customizing the holder for local anatomical variations and exploring additional eco-friendly materials. Enhanced training for practitioners and further research with diverse populations are recommended to optimize the holder's effectiveness.

Abstract

Indonesia still faces a problem with the quality of its human resource for health, despite the potential for improvement through training. According to the Ministry of Health data from 2022, only 44,391 out of 1,440,130 healthcare workers (3%) received accredited training., with many lacking a proper management process. The purpose of this study is to analyze the management of health worker training at Medstrap, organized by Company X using the Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate (ADDIE) Model. Researcher uses a cross-sectional design with a qualitative approach and uses in-depth interviews, observation, and document review. The result are: The analysis phase of training lacks depth, making it difficult to identify clear objectives, which are essential for developing a training roadmap. In the design phase, the absence of a clear blueprint for learning objectives and materials impacts the selection of methods and resources. Delivery and time management are big problems that can be seen from the implementation of training, which is influenced by the ability of the presenter to communicate and master the participants. Evaluation is limited by inadequate time and presenter capabilities, making it hard to measure training outcomes effectively. These issues, particularly in the analysis phase, highlight the need for improvement in the Medstrap process.

Abstract

Energy-dense, low-nutrient, and ultra-processed diets rich in fat can be a risk factor for fatty liver disease. Fragrant pandan is a plant that grows widely in Indonesia and is widely used as a herbal plant. This study aimed to determine the potential of fragrant pandan leaf ethanol extract (FPLEE) to reduce ALT and AST levels. It is a posttest control group design experiment. A total of 24 Rattus norvegicus specimens. All groups were given high-fat food for two weeks, except for NC. In the next two weeks, S was induced by simvastatin and FPLEE; T1, T2, and T3 were induced by 8, 16, and 32 mg/200 g BW/day, respectively. The One-Way ANOVA test results showed α=0.000 for ALT and α=0.029 for AST. Post-hoc LSD showed that NC was significantly different from T1, T2, and T3 (p0.05); therefore, FPLEE was unable to reduce ALT levels. For AST levels, NC was significantly different from C+, T1, and T2 (P0.05). Thus, T3 (32 mg/200 g BW/day of FPLEE) yielded the best results in reducing AST levels (p0.05). Based on these results, FPLEE has side effects on liver function, as seen in increased blood ALT levels, but it can reduce blood AST levels.

Abstract

Clean water quality/water sources are critical factors in preventing diarrhea, especially in island areas that often face challenges of limited access and infrastructure to provide adequate clean water. This study aimed to see the descriptive relationship between the physical and microbiological quality of dug well water and the incidence of diarrhea in children on Kelapa Island and Kelapa Dua Island, Kepulauan Seribu. The results of the analysis showed that the physical quality of water in both locations met the criteria of the Minister of Health Regulation number 2 of 2023, namely, the temperature was in the range of 24°C-30°C, turbidity 1 NTU, and water that was odorless and colorless. Microbiological analysis revealed significant contamination, with total Coliform Bacteria and Escherichia coli levels exceeding the maximum allowable limit ( 0 CFU/100 ml ). Factors such as shallow well depths of less than 3 meters and well distances of less than 10 meters from pollution sources contribute to water pollution indicates fecal contamination that increases the risk of diarrhea, especially in children under five. Given the island region's limited access to water quality, these findings emphasize the need for improved water quality monitoring and environmental quality improvements to reduce public health impacts.
