Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of digital teaching materials oriented to multicultural education in improving students' pluralist attitudes. The type of research method used is a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design and a one-group pretest-posttest design with a control group design. The sample used was 108 grade V elementary school students in Setiabudi sub-district who were selected by the probability sampling technique. The results of this study prove that the use of digital teaching materials oriented to multicultural education has a significant value so that it is effectively used in improving students' pluralistic attitudes. This digital teaching material allows students to analyze moral values conveyed through story content. The results of this study can provide contributions and solutions for education practitioners in order to instill multicultural education since elementary school age so as to create a pluralist generation of youth with diversity.

Abstract

The development of technology makes learning media have an essential function for the learning process conducted by the teacher to students. However, in reality, there are still many teachers who have not yet implemented the development of learning media to support the learning program. The purpose of this study is to describe the challenges and problems that occur in the development of learning media to improve critical thinking skills and character. This study examines how the challenges of teachers in developing learning media to improve students' critical thinking skills and character. The method was in the form of qualitative data (phenomenology). Data were collected by conducting interviews and observations on nine teachers from 3 public elementary schools in Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Based on research, it conducted that students' critical thinking skills and character will increase if the teacher can solve or face challenges in developing existing learning media.

Abstract

The ongoing online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic has become a separate catalyst for the development of education that utilizes technology in the current industrial 4.0 era. However, on the other hand, there are still many gaps in online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. This research study aims to (1) explore the experiences of postgraduate students in online learning; (2) describe the negative impacts and barriers to online learning, along with strategies for dealing with them; and (3) observe the potential that emerges in the future after the Covid-19 pandemic can be overcome. This research is qualitative research with a type of case study. Data were collected through open questionnaires and interviews with participants of 30 postgraduate students of the Primary education study program, Yogyakarta State University. Data analysis was accomplished by examining themes and sub-themes in each topic discussed, then determining the correlation between the sub-themes to conclude. The results show that students have varied experiences throughout online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, students also gain negative physical and psychological impacts, get obstacles concerning data reception, gadgets, interaction with lecturers, independent study, and learning activities during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, students also still have various strategies in dealing with the obstacles and negative impacts of Covid-19. Finally, online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic is giving potential as well as negative things in the future once it is resolved.

Abstract

Literacy activities in Indonesia are intensively developed to form literate citizens. Literacy is defined as a basic ability to develop individual potential in achieving goals. One of the literacies developed is numeracy literacy, which was coined in 2017. Numerical literacy is a branch of mathematical literacy. This ability guides individuals to recognize the role of numeracy competencies in everyday life. The knowledge of numeracy literacy is an urgent need for students. The student at least has received numeracy literacy development. This study aims to describe numeracy literacy in the field and compare numeracy literacy targets with reality in the area. The research method is descriptive quantitative. The data collection technique used a test with a research instrument of numeracy literacy skills and used non-test data, namely observation, and open interview guidelines. The research findings show that the students' numeracy literacy skills are still in the poor category. Numeracy literacy has not been developed in the implementation of the Gerakan Literasi Sekolah (GLS). Basic literacy activities have not been implemented properly.

Abstract

This research aims to produce a comic book that can be used to embed the character of tolerance to the students of 4th grade of elementary school. This research using development procedure from Borg and Gall includes seven steps procedure, they are research and information collecting, planning, developing a preliminary form of product, preliminary field testing, main product revision, main field testing, and operational product revision. The data resources were collected from interviews, observation, and questionnaires. Data analysis technique by quantitative descriptive statistics. Preliminary field tests involve three students and one class teacher. Main field tests involve twelve students and one class teacher. Final validation by material expert got an average score of 4.53, language expert got an average score of 4.50, and media expert got an average score of 4.25. The preliminary field-testing result got an average score of 4.50 in teachers and got an average score of 3.46 in students. The main field-testing result got an average score of 4.75 in teachers and got an average score of 4.74 in students. So, education comics can be used properly to embed tolerance characters in elementary school.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the project-based learning learning model on the thinking skills of PGSD students in the Social Sciences 1 course. The method used in this research is an experiment. The subjects in this study were PGSD students. There are two classes in this research design, namely the experimental class and the control class. The experimental class consisted of 37 students and the control class also consisted of 37 students. Data collection techniques used observation and document analysis. The data analysis technique used in this research is descriptive analysis calculated by comparing the average value of each variable with the standard curve criteria. The analysis prerequisite test uses the normality test. The hypothesis test used is the t-test. The results showed that the project-based learning model has a significant effect in improving students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop a natural science supplement book based on local wisdom in thematic-integrative learning in the fourth grade of elementary schools. This study uses Research and Development of the Dick and Carey model. The research data were obtained through observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The results of the feasibility of a local wisdom-based science supplement book were obtained through a product assessment questionnaire for material experts, media experts, linguists, and classroom teachers. While the trial results were obtained through a response questionnaire given to 58 fourth-grade elementary school students. The results of the validators show that the science supplement book is very feasible from the assessment of the material aspects with an average of 86.33%, the media aspect is also considered very feasible with an average of 91.63%, while the language aspect is considered feasible with an average of 76.67%. The results obtained from practitioners also get very feasible criteria with an average of 87.06%. The results of small-scale trials obtained an average of 100% and the results of large-scale trials obtained an average of 97,08% with very good criteria. Based on these results, the local wisdom-based science supplement book is very suitable for fourth-grade elementary school teachers in thematic-integrative learning.

Abstract

This study is to evaluate the performance of basic education teachers in managing learning in inclusive settings, with a focus on teachers' understanding of the diversity of students with special needs, teachers' abilities in preparation for learning in inclusive settings, teachers' abilities in implementing inclusive setting learning and teachers' abilities in assessing learning in inclusive settings. This descriptive study is based on monitoring and evaluation data for inclusive schools in 2019. The research subjects involved 160 teachers, consisting of 21 early childhood education teachers, and 139 elementary school teachers from five districts in Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta (DIY) Province. The data collection instrument used a questionnaire, while the data analysis technique used descriptive analysis. The results of this study conclude that teachers whose performance is effective at the level of inclusion are teachers who understand the conditions and development of their students. Based on the evaluation of teacher performance, it is necessary to provide teacher strengthening programs in line with inclusive education policies, and appropriate accommodation for students with disabilities in schools.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of implementing child-friendly school policies in elementary schools. This research is quantitative research with survey design. Observations on the implementation of the policy were made to several schools in the Kulon Progo area. Analysis of field data regarding cases of child violence was carried out through descriptive statistics and literature review as a description of the condition of child-friendly schools in Indonesia. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of child-friendly school policies in the Kulon Progo Region is in the quite appropriate category. It is necessary to take steps in optimizing the applicable child-friendly school policy model. The constraint factors in implementing child-friendly school policies still need special attention, especially for education providers and the government.

Abstract

Assessment of student learning is still carried out even at distance learning. This study aims to describe how elementary school teachers assess students' psychomotor during distance learning. This research is a qualitative research with the type of phenomenology. The subjects of this study were elementary school teachers, principals, parents, and students. The research data were collected using interview techniques and document studies. The data analysis technique used is interactive analysis through data collection, data condensation, data verification and drawing conclusions. The teacher begins the skills assessment by planning in advance. Planning begins with determining the competencies to be addressed, but the condition of the student's situation while at home is also a consideration for teachers in designing skills assessments. The implementation of the skills assessment is carried out through various platforms such as WhatsApp, Zoom, and Google Classroom. Teachers assess students' skills through photos and videos that students send on online platforms.
