Abstract

The objectives of the present investigation were to evaluate the effect of using shell of fresh water snails in 3 different processing forms (raw coarse ground, raw and roasted finely ground) as the major source of calcium in the diets on the performance of growing native chickens (12-24 weeks of age). Four dietary treatments were a control diet containing 2 % of oyster shell meal and three others consisted of 2 % of freshwater snail shell in the form raw coarse ground, raw and roasted fine ground. The diets were offered to forty growing native chicks, which were randomly divided into four groups, each amounting of 10 chickens as replication. Parameters measured included: body weight gain, feed intake, FCR, carcass weight and net return. The results showed that roasting of shell of freshwater snail prior to incorporate in the rations could significantly improve the body weigh gain, feed intake and FCR However, the net return was negative mainly due to high feed cost. Chickens fed on diet containing raw coarse grounded shell was found the highest net return.

Abstract

The life cycle of earthworm Perionyx excavatus in the faces of livestock animals has been studied and had potency to depredate the animal wastes through vermiculture process. Optimal live environmental conditions were needed to achieve the optimal vermiculture process. The rate of growth and reproduction of the worm depended mainly on the availability of nutition in the medium. In this experiment, four different animal feces were used as vermiculture media, e.g. cattle, horse, rabbit and chicken. The increase of body length was measured as the growth rate function of the worm P. excavagatus. The change of temperature, pH and humidity of medium were measured as the factors affecting the growth rate. These factors were important in research objectives, i.e. production of earthworm biomass for poultry feedstuff and of high quality biofertilizer by using animal wastes as vermiculture medium. Feces of cattle and rabbit were found the best medium of vermiculture. P.excavagus cultivated in the feces of both animals showed the fast similar growth rate. The growth rate of P.excavagus in four different medium could be ordered as follows: cattle feces> rabbit feces>horse feces. Feces of chicken was found not suitable for earthworm media because of low pH. Biofertilizer from the vermiculture could be produced in relatively short time period with better physical characteristic in compare to the normal biofertilizer.

Abstract

Earthworms are invertebrate with the unique immune system, since they are able to hold out bacterium pathogen in growing medium. Their immune system consists of a lot of reactions including: fagocytosis, encapsulation, agglutination, opsonisation and lysis for foreign component attacked. There are some small molecules and extra cellular proteins dilute in coelomic earthworm that play at important role in immune system and antibacterial agent. The present experiment was done to study the effect of several different treatments (feeding, living, medium, electricity stimulation) on the molecules resistance and activity of anti bacterial protein in coelomic of earthworms. Coelomic dilution was extracted by using electricity stimulation at 6 volt, and the activity of anti bacterial protein was measured by spectrophotometer, and agar diffusion. Protein extra cellular molecular size in coelomic dilution was observed by Sodium Duodecil Sulphate (SDS) electrophoresis. Results showed that the activity of anti bacterial protein in coelomic dilution, and molecule with 29 kDa size were deleted by tretments. Extraction of coelomic dilution which contained of activity of anti bacterial protein could be done in feces from cow which was never stimulated before.

Abstract

An experiment was conducted to study the effect of excess energy intake above the level of energy requirement for maintenance (ERM) on the abdominal fat deposition. Five diets were formulated with different energy levels of above ERM i.e.: (A) ERM, (B) ERM + 30 kcal, (C) ERM + 60 kcal, (D) ERM + 90 kcal, and (E) ERM + 120 kcal. The diets were then offered for 4 weeks to 32 broiler chickens of two weeks old. Parameters measured included: body weight gain, abdominal fat, body fat and protein content. Results indicated that restriction of energy intake could not significantly reduce the abdominal fat deposition of broiler. During the growing period, the excess energy intake was not used for muscle growth maximally, but also used to deposit abdominal fat.

Abstract

The aims of the present research were to study the effect of time periods of electrics stimulation and muscle type on water content, pH and cooking loss of meat of pesisir cattle. This research was designed according to factorial attempt pattern 3 x 3 based on Randomized Block Design (RBD). The treatments were 3 levels of electric stimulated time, i.e. A1 = 1 minute, A2 = 2 minutes and A3 = 3 minutes as A factor, for the B factor is the muscle they are B1 = Longisimus dorsi, B2 = Supra spinatus and B3 = Biceps femoris. Results showed that water content of meat pesisir cattle ranged from 78.17 - 77.41 %, pH 6.03- 5.70 and cooking loss ranged from 42.31 - 37.96. The electric stimulated didn't give significant effect (P>0.05) on water content and pH, but cooking loss percentage decreased signtficantly (P<0.05) by increasing the time periods of electric stimulation time. Muscle type gave significant effect (P<0.05) on cooking loss.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of fertilization time and different incubation systems on fertilization level by in-vitro. The mature of ovaries from indigenous cow and fresh cement from Holstein Frisian cows (FH), 0.9 % NaCl physiological PBS, Nissui Japan, l,TCM-199, HEPES 30 μM, 20 mL Heparin, 10% goat serum, 250 g/ml FSH BO medium, mediumgentamisain 50 mB-O, mineral oil, alcohol, aquabidest, and 1% aceto orcein were materials and reagents. The Completely Randomized Design (CRD) in factorial pattern was used. Results shown no significant effect on the percentage of fertilized oocytes and level of development of pronuclei (2PN and> 2PN) by different timing of fertilization and incubation system. The development of pronucleus (1PN) showed significant (P <0.05) on 12 hours (37.60 %), but no significant effect on different incubation system. It concluded, the system of incubation and time of fertilization has no effect on oocyte fertilization rate. Oocytes fertilization time can be performed at 6 hours, 12 hours, and 18 hours, while the extension of the period of fertilization until 18 hours did not increase the level of fertilization.
