Abstract

This study describes the creative process of digital fashion design, focusing on how to transform the idea inspired by the Green Peafowl into an evening gown using digital design techniques. The motivation behind this creative work is the need for digital fashion designs that showcase contemporary fashion concepts as well as represent the beauty of the endemic Green Peafowl, a species currently threatened with extinction. The objective of this research is to create a digital fashion design inspired by the Green Peafowl, exploring its visual elements and aesthetics artistically in the form of an evening gown. Through the application of artistic theory and design principles, symbols representing the characteristics of the Green Peafowl—derived from visual elements such as shape, colour, and texture—are transformed into the design of the evening gown. The research method employed is Dharsono's artistic creation method, which consists of the following stages: 1) Observation, 2) Experimentation, 3) Reflection, and 4) Formation. The observation stage includes literature and pictorial studies related to the theme. The experimentation stage involves exploring the visual elements of the Green Peafowl in the design. The reflection stage involves analyzing and reflecting on the aesthetic aspects and meaning of the resulting design. The formation stage results in harmonious and innovative work in accordance with the concept and idea. The outcome of this research is a collection of digital evening gown designs. Penelitian ini mendeskripsikan proses kreatif pengkaryaan desain busana digital dengan fokus utama yakni; bagaimana mentranformasikan ide inspirasi Green Peafowl pada evening gown dengan teknik digitalisasi desain. Pengkaryaan ini didasari oleh kebutuhan akan desain busana digital untuk menampilkan konsep busana terkini, serta merepresentasikan keindahan fauna endemik Green Peafowl yang saat ini mulai terancam keberadaanya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menciptakan desain busana digital yang terinspirasi dari burung Green Peafowl, dengan mengeksplorasi elemen rupa dan estetika secara artistik ke dalam wujud evening gown. Melalui pendekatan teori artistik dan prinsip desain, simbol-simbol yang merepresentasikan karakteristik Green Peafowl, bersumber dari elemen rupa seperti bentuk, warna, dan tekstur, ditransformasikan kedalam wujud evening gown. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kreasi artistik Dharsono, dengan tahapan proses yakni; 1) Observasi, 2) eksperimen, 3) perenungan, dan 4) pembentukan. Tahap Observasi meliputi studi pustaka dan piktorial terkait tema yang diusung. Tahap eksperimen dilakukan dengan mengeksplorasi elemen rupa Green Peafowl ke dalam desain. Tahap perenungan melibatkan analisis dan refleksi terhadap aspek estetika dan makna dari desain yang dihasilkan. Tahap pembentukan menghasilkan karya yang harmonis dan inovatif sesuai konsep dan gagasan ide. Hasil penelitian ini berupa koleksi desain busana digital evening gown.

Abstract

The album cover not only functions as a record protector, but also as an intermediary in conveying the message of the musical work itself. As a contemporary band, SHINee employs the album cover as a paratext, enabling fans to engage with the music through audiovisual interpretation. This research analyzes and explains the meaning behind each of the visual elements presented. The purpose of this study is to determine the appeal of album covers and identify the components of cover artwork representations contained in SHINee album covers. This research employs a qualitative methodology, spesifically descriptive analysis, to elucidate the symbolic, chromatic, compositional, and other design elements through the lens of Stuart Hall’s representation theory. Based on the analysis of the appeal of album covers and identify the components of cover artwork representations contained on SHINee’s album cover, it is know that the visual composition as the attractions is dominated by geometric shapes and figures, as well as the use of primary and contrasting colors. The visual style uses a minimalist and pop art approach to portray simplicity. The symbols interpreted from the related visual elements (geometric shapes, figures, colors) use approaches from K-Pop and Obangsaek. Kover album tidak hanya difungsikan sebagai pelindung rekaman, namun juga sebagai perantara dalam menyampaikan pesan dari karya musik itu sendiri. SHINee sebagai band kontemporer menggunakan kover sebagai parateks yang memungkinkan penggemar untuk menginterpretasi musik secara audiovisual. Penelitian ini menganalisis dan menjelaskan mengenai makna di balik setiap elemen-elemen visual yang disajikan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui daya tarik kover dan komponen representasi karya seni pada kover album SHINee. Pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif analitis digunakan dalam penelitian ini untuk menginterpretasikan simbol, warna, komposisi, dan elemen desain lainnya dengan menggunakan teori representasi Stuart Hall. Berdasarkan hasil analisis daya tarik dan komponen representasi pada kover album SHINee diketahui bahwa komposisi visual sebagai daya tarik kover album SHINee didominasi dengan bentuk geometri dan figur, serta penggunaan warna primer dan kontras. Gaya visualnya menggunakan pendekatan minimalis dan pop art untuk menggambarkan kesederhanaan. Simbol-simbol yang diinterpretasikan (bentuk geometris, figur, warna) menggunakan pendekatan dari budaya K-Pop dan Obangsaek.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh fenomena sosial politik yang sering terjadi beberapa tahun belakangan. Karya seni memiliki peran penting dalam merefleksikan dan mengkritisi realitas sosial politik dalam masyarakat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji hubungan antara karya seni dengan latar belakang sosial politik, serta bagaimana karya seni dapat menjadi sarana ekspresi dan perubahan dalam konteks tersebut. Dalam kontribusinya, Cemeti Institut mengadakan sebuah proyek seni “Bodies of Power/Power of Bodies” dengan beberapa rangkaian acara; pameran, lokakarya, artist talk, dan simposium. Proyek ini bertujuan untuk bagaimana peran masyarakat atau pelaku seni dengan politik berbicara tentang kekuatan (power) yang mendukung tubuh individual (bodies) masyarakat. Metode penelitian bersifat kualitatif dengan observasi data, melibatkan wawancara dengan seniman juga individu terkait, serta analisis terhadap karya atau kegiatan yang diadakan. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa Bodies of Power/Power of Bodies tidak hanya mencerminkan realitas sosial politik, tetapi juga aktif berpartisipasi dalam pembentukannya dan menjadi platform untuk menyuarakan keinginan, ketidakpuasan, atau perlawanan terhadap kekuasaan dan ketidakadilan sosial. Karya seni mengungkapkan kritik langsung maupun dengan menyediakan ruang untuk refleksi, memiliki kapasitas yang sangat sebagai alat yang efektif untuk melakukan perubahan sosial politik serta memahami hubungan antara karya seni dan konteks sosial politik dapat membantu pembuat kebijakan, aktivis, dan masyarakat umum mendukung perubahan positif.

Abstract

Sculpture is a three-dimensional work that reflects the expression of its artist, involving feelings, imagination, and memories visualized in the work. This research explores the process of childhood memory reconstruction as a foundation for sculpture creation, and analyzes how personal experiences can be transformed into three-dimensional works with aesthetic value and visual narrative. The creation method uses a practice-based research approach with assemblage techniques that combine multiplex material and used drums, processed through stages of contemplation, idea emergence, to the embodiment of three-dimensional forms with a surrealistic style. The research results produced a series of sculptures representing various spectrums of childhood experiences, from happy moments to trauma, visualized through compositions of organic forms, layered textures, and the use of contrasting colors. Through the process of memory reconstruction, this research shows that personal experiences can be processed into creative energy and embodied in visual forms that have artistic value.

Abstract

This research describes the dynamics of the city of Yogyakarta/Jogja through a work of art in the form of a relief entitled 'Jogja On the Move' by Entang Wiharso in the departure boarding lounge of Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA). In this study, the researcher makes a frame based on the study of artworks towards the development of dynamics that occur in the city of Jogja. Aspects of historical depictions and sites in the city of Jogja are included in the dynamics of its development. The method used is descriptive analytical qualitative in describing artworks towards the dynamics of the city of Jogja found when observing relief artworks in the YIA departure lounge. This research describes the visualization of works of art, especially in terms of the meaning of symbols and texts. From the researcher's observation of the artworks, it was found that the relief artwork entitled 'Jogja On the Move' is an experience, observation, hope and criticism from the artist Entang Wiharso towards the tough tug-of-war between tradition and modernity in the city of Jogja. This can be used as an example to raise public awareness of the need for readiness in navigating the changes or dynamics of a city.Penelitian ini mendeskripsikan dinamika kota Yogyakarta/Jogja melalui karya seni rupa berupa relief berjudul ‘Jogja On the Move’ karya Entang Wiharso di ruang tunggu keberangkatan Bandara Internasional Yogyakarta (Yogyakarta International Airport/YIA). Dalam penelitian ini, peneliti membuat bingkai berdasarkan kajian karya seni terhadap perkembangan dinamika yang terjadi di Jogja. Aspek penggambaran sejarah serta situs di Jogja tercakup dalam dinamika perkembangannya. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif analitis bersifat kualitatif dalam menggambarkan karya seni rupa terhadap dinamika Jogja yang ditemukan saat melakukan pengamatan pada karya seni relief di ruang tunggu keberangkatan YIA. Penelitian ini menjabarkan visualisasi karya seni rupa terutama secara pemaknaan simbol dan teks. Dari pengamatan peneliti terhadap karya yang dihasilkan, ditemukan bahwa karya relief berjudul ‘Jogja On the Move’ merupakan pengalaman, pengamatan, harapan serta kritik dari seniman Entang Wiharso terhadap tarik ulur yang alot antara tradisi dan modernitas di Jogja. Hal ini dapat dijadikan contoh untuk menggugah kesadaran masyarakat bahwa perlu kesiapan dalam mengarungi perubahan atau dinamika sebuah kota.

Abstract

             The interior concept of the Graha Sahid Surakarta room is formed from the ceiling. You can see that the character is very strong with wayang characters. The symbolism of wayang figures in interior design can convey a traditional and artistic atmosphere to the room. This research aims to analyze the description of semiotic studies at the level of signifier and signified originating from the wayang characters symbols on the ceiling at Graha Sahid Surakarta.              The data collection method in this article is the documentation method. Researchers also use a data analysis method called the semiotic analysis method. In carrying out semiotic analysis, researchers used the basic theory of Roland Barthes, namely the meaning of signifiers, signifieds, denotations and connotations of the wayang character symbols on the ceiling at Graha Sahid Surakarta.             The results of the research show that using Roland Barthes' semiotic theory on the wayang characters symbol on the ceiling at Graha Sahid Surakarta provides a deep understanding of how these symbols influence the perception and experience of space. Semiotic analysis will of course pay attention to how the placement of the selected wayang characters can influence the visual narrative of the room by placing the wayang characters in an order and creating a clear storyline. In interior design, wayang character symbols can provide a special emotional feel for the room's users.

Abstract

Contemporary batik is the novelty of creation with  the aim of satisfying the tastes of the people, connoisseurs and consumers. One of the visual styles that people can enjoy today is the visual style  of  pop  art,  and  this  visual  style  of  pop  art  is  in  line  with  contemporary  batik  style.  The similarities of contemporary pop art and batik are the same – breaking down of existing pakemes and free visualizations without rules. Then  the selection of motif inspiration was taken  from the legend  of  the  goddess  Athena  Because  Athens  is  one  of  the  most  popular  goddesses  of  Greek mythology to date. This study is based on qualitative methods with a motive design approach and data collection techniques in the form of literature studies, interviews, observations, visual studies, and exploration. The purpose of the study was to produce a new contemporary batik motif with a pop art visual style inspired by the Legend of the Goddess of Athens. The result of this study is the visual novelty in contemporary batik motifs with the inspiration of the goddess Athena using popart visual style with the final result of a sheet of cloth.Batik kontemporer merupakan kebaruan kreasi dengan tujuan memenuhi selera masyarakat, penikmat serta konsumen. Salah satu penggayaan visual yang dapat dinikmati masyarakat saat ini adalah gaya visual pop art, dan penggayaan visual pop art ini sejalan dengan gaya batik kontemporer. Kesamaan pop art dan batik kontemporer sama – sama mendobrak dari pakem yang ada dan visualisasi yang bebas tanpa adanya aturan. Kemudian pemilihan inspirasi motif diambil dari cerita legenda Dewi Athena karena Athena merupakan salah satu dewi Mitologi Yunani yang populer hingga saat ini. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan desain motif dan teknik pengumpulan data berupa studi literatur, wawancara, observasi, studi visual, dan eksplorasi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk menghasilkan kebaruan motif batik kontemporer dengan penggayaan visual pop art yang terinspirasi dari cerita Legenda Dewi Athena. Luaran dari penelitian ini adalah kebaruan visual dalam motif batik kontemporer dengan inspirasi Dewi Athena menggunakan penggayaan visual pop art dengan hasil akhir berupa lembaran kain.

Abstract

The postmodern thought on pluralism influences contemporary art while providing opportunities for diaspora artists from Lombok to engage in it. This study aims to describe the foundational concepts and practices of diaspora artists from Lombok in the realm of contemporary art. The research method employed is qualitative, focusing on artists Saepul Bahri and Wisnu Aji Kumara, who have been active in the arts for over 14 years. The findings indicate that the artistic foundations of both artists are shaped by personal, social, and cultural experiences, as well as awareness of local values. Despite their differing approaches, both artists demonstrate a strong connection to Sasak traditions. Their concepts are enriched by aesthetic understandings gained from academic and non-academic environments, addressing contemporary issues within Sasak society while exploring cultural identity. Their works aim to apply Sasak aesthetic concepts of 'semaik' and 'pemolek'. This research documents the perspectives of diaspora artists from Lombok in understanding, adapting, or developing their creative concepts in a contemporary context, highlighting their contributions to expanding the narrative of contemporary art and maintaining the relevance of local culture in a global context.
