Indonesian Journal of Disability Studies (SINTA 3 accredited) is an academic peer reviewed journal published by Center for Disability Services (CDSS), University of Brawijaya (UB), Malang, Indonesia. The journal publishes original papers at the forefront of disability research, covering the research of Inclusive education. If a meaningful work is enormously important, how does an equality framework advance this in securing access to the labour market? This paper will examine the way in which work is significant for persons with disabilities as a pathway towards social inclusion. It is apparantly drawn from the concept of dignity, equality and human rights. Accordingly, a substantive equality approach provides a powerful endowment to the fulfilment of the right to work of persons with disability.]]>

<![CDATA[The number of children with special needs which tend to increase have not been followed by the enhancement on people's knowledge and understanding on their developmental characteristics. Discrimination upon these children come not only from other people in their environment but also often from their own families. In this stressful situation, they are possibly having a lot of difficulties in following educational program and enhancing their academic, social and other life skills. The important aspect that makes some of them adaptive in facing adversity or stressful condition is resilience. The aim of this study was describing family protective factors that can be used as the basis for helping children with special needs increasing their resilience. This study used qualitative approach. Participants consist of four families that have child with special needs. All of those families reside in Surabaya. Data were collected through interview with each family member, observation with general guidance and field notes. Thematic analysis was used as data analysis technique. Eight protective factors found as the result of this study: (1) Family independence; (2) Patience and sincerity in experiencing the problems; (3) The persistence; (4) Positive communication; (5) Togetherness and support among family member; (6) Other social support; (7) Activeness in accessing information and openness to situational changes; (8) Similarity positive respond between parents. The paper concludes with a discussion of these findings, as well as explanation about steps that can be taken by parents in strengthening the protective factors, which will support childrens with special needs to increase their resilience.]]>

<![CDATA[In this paper an attempt has been made to observe the spatial patterns of disabled persons by sex and residence in and across the districts of West Bengal. The research paper is exclusively based on secondary sources of data which have been taken from Census of India publications, New Delhi. Advanced statistical techniques have been used to analyze the data. Apart from, advanced cartographic techniques and GIS-MapInfo has also been used to visual representation of the data. The study reveals that disabled persons are highly concentrated in southern part of the state while, central part and a little area of northern part have the lower concentration. There is an enormous regional variation in the distributional patterns of male-female and rural-urban areas of the state. The study also examined the probable association between disability and selected socio-economic variables and it is observed that several variables are significantly associated with disability.]]>

<![CDATA[The purpose of this study was to describe the accessibility of hotels for difable in Surakarta. The object of this study was two hotels in Surakarta. The research used qualitative approaches. Data collected by observation, interview, and documentation. We found that percentage of accessiblity of both hotels are around 60-70%. There is still barrier in completing condition of good and proper accessibility in hotels.]]>

<![CDATA[Sustainability in Higher Education is usually interpreted as a concept applying solely to operations management and energy policy. Though the applicability of the concept to social justice is immediately tangible, few campuses have found organic and pragmatic ways to extend principles of sustainability to their equity, diversity or inclusion practices, or to convince their community of the need to do so. This study examines the unique experience of North American campus having attempted this progressive osmosis between the two concepts. Access has represented the opportunity for this rethink. As individual, retroactive accommodations become increasingly obsolete when it comes to providing access to learning to large number of students with specific needs entering post-secondary education, sustainability has become an increasingly appealing lens with which to devise a new framework for inclusion seeking systemic change in pedagogical practices. The campus in question implemented a proactive drive for the implementation of Universal Design for Learning from 2011 and this paper presents the analysis of the various and complex ways access and sustainability have become entwined in campus policies. The outcomes are particularly relevant for the Global South in that it may encourage Higher Education institutions in developing countries to avoid the temporary appeal of medical model based measures of inclusion and the precedents set in the Global North over the last two decades, and to focus instead on social model based policies that seek the development of sustainable and inclusive teaching practices from the onset.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aims to determine and evaluate the availability of facilities and accessibility of buildings in the SLB Negeri Sukoharjo for children with special needs, especially blind and physical impairment. The research method used is a qualitative research. Data were collected by observation, documentation, and interview techniques. Data analysis using qualitative description by comparing data obtained from the field with the standard provisions according to the Minister of Public Works Decree Number 30 of 2006 which regulates the technical guidance of facilities and accessibility of buildings and the environment. The results showed that accessibility for the blind and physical impairment in SLB Negeri Sukoharjo less accessible. Therefore, there needs to be improvement efforts in some parts of the building of SLB Sukoharjo to make it more accessible for PwDs.]]>

<![CDATA[Since 2009, Indonesia has an excellent commitment and effort in the field of inclusive education. The government provides equal opportunities in education. Through Centre for Development and Empowerment of Teachers and Education Personnel of Kindergartens and Special Education (PPPPTK TK & PLB), the government provides training and services to teachers in the field of inclusive education and special education. The teacher trainers in PPPPTK TK & PLB are called WidyaIswara. The purpose of this study is to know the implementation of inclusive education in Indonesia from the perspective of WidyaIswara of PPPPTK TK & PLB. The research used qualitative method. This research was conducted on March 2nd, 2017 in PPPPTK TK & PLB located in Bandung, Indonesia. Data were collected using a questionnaire in the interview related to perceptions about special and inclusive education. The interview process used the instrument in interview form to experts that called WidyaIswara with closed-ended questions. A total of 3 Expert in Inclusive Education in PPPPTK participated in this activity. From the findings and discussion of the research, explained about WidyaIswara's perception about: 1) Awareness of students to go to school, 2) Grouping of students with special needs in special and general schools, 3) Distribution of Special Schools in Indonesia, 4) Supporting educational facilities and infrastructure in special and inclusive schools, 5) Teacher in special and inclusive Schools, 6) Learning Activities, 7) Children with special needs after graduation at a level of education, and 8) Government efforts.]]>

<![CDATA[This research discusses the implementation of diversity program at PT. Wangta Agung in Surabaya. This research uses qualitative method by interviewing four employees of the company; two employees with disability and two employees without disability. This research uses observation and interview method. The method of analysis is attitude-based method for employees with disabilities. The data of this research were collected through observations and interviews. The result of this research is that the company hires employees with disability that support the value of the organization, apply rules, and provide facilities and infrastructure. The analysis results reveal that the diversity programs are relevant with the employment and organization value for the management of human resource with disabilities. This study shows that the application of diversity program for people with disability on the employees of PT. Wangta Agung in Surabaya has been well managed by the company. The results also show that there is a recruitment system for prospective employees with disabilities.]]>

<![CDATA[This study looks at how children with disabilities are socially represented in inclusive schools. A number of 371 junior secondary students without disabilities were recruited from 6 inclusive schools in Jakarta. In a free association fashion, they were stimulated with a phrase student with disabilities and their responses were recorded. They were asked to evaluate their own responses as containing positive, negative, or neutral prototypical characteristics and scored according to the affective loading. The results indicated that even in inclusive school, children with disabilities were socially represented as individuals who are "lacking of abilities", "difficult to communicate", "stupid", and so on. We aslo asked students to fill the Swearer Bully Survey- Student Version (BYS-S) and found that students with disabilities were bullied by their peers.]]>

<![CDATA[The design of study desks in special schools is generally made equal to the purpose for the convenience of students in learning so as to help students in receiving the lessons well. The purpose of this study was to analyze and redesign the table in grade IV child tunagrahita. This research uses descriptive qualitative method through exploration approach. This study used observation and unstructured interviews with headmasters, classroom teachers, students of grade IV tunagrahita students at SLB Putra Mandiri Kawunganten in Cilacap. The result of this research is proposed in the form of analysis of table design for learners so as to produce more ergonomic desk.]]>
