Abstract

The effect of the ethanolic extract of Orthosiphon spicatus leaves on the intraocular pressure of glaucoma rats have been investigated. Glaucoma was induced by treating the animal with prednisolone acetat eyedrop 1% every 5 minute for one hour. A number of 30 rats were divided into 6 group. Three groups of animals were treated with the extract at doses of 12, 36, and 108 mg/200 g BW orally. As comparison, a group of normal control animals, a group of negative control animals and another treated with acetazolamide (4,5 mg/200 g bw) were used. Results showed that the extract reduced intraocular pressure of glaucoma rats especially at dose of 36 mg/ 200 g BW.

Abstract

An assay of biodegradation of plastic film combination of polystyrene (PS) and poli (3-hydroxy butyrate-ko-3-hydroxyvalerate) [P(3HB-ko-3HV)] has been conducted. The assay was done by using soil burial test method. The plastic film was made by blending technique of various composition of PS/P(3HB-ko-3HV) in to the mud. The remaining weight of plastic film was determined gravimentically time intervals 1,2,3,4 and 5 weeks of burial. Result showed that the P(3HB-ko-3HV) had an influence on the degradation rate of plastic film. The biodegradation rate increased with an increase in P(3HB-ko-3HV) content in the mixture. The rate was derived from linear regression equation and parameters such as biodegradation rate constant (k), t 50 % and t 95% were obtained. It was found that for combination of  PS/P(3HB-ko-3HV) 95:5 k= 1,26% b/b per week , t 50 % = 39,07 weeks and t 95 % = 74,783 week for the mixture of PS/P(3HB-ko-3HV) 90:10  k = 1,604 % b/b per week, t 50 % = 30,57 week and t 95 % = 58,62 week. For the mixture of PS/P(3HB-ko-3HV), 85:15 k = 2,663 % b/b per week, t 50 % = 17,95 week and t 95 % = 34,85 week. While those of pure PS plastic film k = 0,24 % b/b per week, t 50 % = 201,85 week and t 95 % = 354,55 week which indicated a very slow biodegradation. Analysis by SEM showed that the surface of plastic film was eroded and damaged during the burial. The amount of bacterial colony per 1 gram of mud was 2,31x107.

Abstract

Effect of green tea brewed addition toward the antioxidant activity of apple juice, have been investigated by measuring free radical 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl catches by sample. Ratio of green tea brewed with apple juice was 4:1(T4A1), 3:1(T3A1), 2:1(T2A1) and 1:1(T1A1). Results showed that antioxidant activity of T4A1 (IC50=0,6214% v/v) are not different evident (p<0,05) than green tea brewed (IC50=0,6091% v/v).

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate an antiinflamation effect of S.paniculata and Siabadicencis extracts at the dose of 300 mg/200 g BW by induction of rats paw edema. Edema condition was induced by administration of 0,2 ml aqueous solution of 0,1 % carrageenan. This was followed by the assay of antiinflamatory effect of fractionated S. paniculata extract with hexane, DCM, ethyl acetate and butanol respectively. A decrease in rats paw edema volume was measured after treatments. Results showed that percent inhibition of inflammation after administration of Siabadicencis, S. paniculata extracts and positive control were 35;48 and 63 % respectively, while that of the hexane, DCM, ethyl acetate and butanol fraction was 69, 27, 53, and 43 % respectively. The antiinflamation effect of the hexane fraction was then determined at various doses (10 ; 20 and 30 mg/20 g BW with positive control acetosal 1,3 mg/20 g BW, by induction of rat back edema. The edema was induced by administration of 1 % carrageen in sessame oil at day 0 (0,1 ml) and day 1 st (0,5 ml) respectively. Parameters such as edema volume, haemoglobin and haematocrit were observed. Results indicated that percent inhibition of inflammation diameter after administration of the fraction at doses  10, 20, 30 mg/20 g BW and acetosal 1,3 mg/20 g BW on day 5th was 11 ; 15 ; 17 ; and 20 % respectively. While percent inhibition of inflammation volume of those groups were 19, 38, 62 and 63 % respectively the haemoglobine (Hb) of dose group 10, 20, 30 mg/20 g BW and negative control was 14.808 ; 15.117 and 12.944 g/dL respectively and 45,25 that of control positive 44,2 respectively. The mean value of necrosis hepatocyte at 3 sites of dose group 30 mg/20 g BW, positive and negative control groups was 6,38 ; 13,82 and 3,55 respectively.

Abstract

This research was a prospective observational study using descriptive cross sectional approach and performed at all patients of hyperuricemia with or without accompanying diseases at Interne Ward and Polyclinic DR. M. Djamil Hospital Padang during Maret to May 2011, by census. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive analysis method. Results showed that type of DRPs frequently occured at 110 patients with hyperuricemia with/without  accompanying diseases at Interne polyclinic was drug interactions of pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic at 36 patients. Adverse drug reaction 9 patients, non-compliance of patients 5 patients. Drug terapy without medical indication, lower and higher dose, inappropriate drug selection, inappropriate drug administration interval were had no problems. At the Interne Ward from 7 patients, the DRPs frequentlyy occured were drug interactions (3 patients), higher drug dose (2 patients), adverse drug reactions (2 patients), patient non-compliance (2 patients), inappropriate drug administration interval (1 patient), drug therapy without medical indication (1 patient), and other DRPs had no problems. There was non toxic drug interactions or adverse drug reactions was found during this study.

Abstract

A study on the use of pregelatinized glutinous rice starch in combination with sodium carboxy methyl cellulose as sustained release matrix and sodium diclofenac as a model has been conducted. Two formulas were prepared with these ratio of pregelatized glutinous rice starch to Na CMC of (42,70% : 14,25 %) (F1) and (28,5% : 28,5 %) (F2) respectively. Evaluation of pharmaceutical properties of the tablets showed that all formulas fulfilled the requirement in term of weight uniformity, content uniformity, friability, hardness and disintegration time. Dissolution profile showed that F1 showed down the release of drug at 86% in 12 hours, while F2 80,16 % in 12 hours.

Abstract

dentification of antioxidative compounds in God leaves [Gynura pseudochina (Lour.) DC] has been performed. The dried leaves were extracted by reflux consecutively with hexane, chloroform and methanol. Each of extract was concentrated using rotary vacuum evaporator. DPPH method was used to examine the antioxidant activity of the extract. The methanolic extract exhibited the strongest antioxidative activity. Then the methanolic extract was isolated by preparative paper chromatography method. The isolated compounds were screened for their antioxidative activity by DPPH method and characterized by chemical and spectroscopic methods. Results indicated that the compound 3’,4’,5,7-tetrahydroxy flavonol (quercetin) was the most active as antioxidant and can be used as marker in standardization of God leaves or its extract.

Abstract

A study was conducted to determine the “development toxicity” of ciprofloxacin and litters kidney. The aim of this study was to observe teratogenic effect of ciprofloxacin, and observing its effect on behaviour development and litters kidney. Twenty four pregnant mice were divided into 4 groups : control, and treatments with oral dose of ciprofloxacin of 14,3 mg, 28,5 mg, and 57,1 mg/kg body weight/day for 10 days, coincided with sixth day until fifteenth day of pregnancy for prenatal and posnatal test. Half of the animals were killed on day 18 of gestation and the others half were allowed to deliver. Fetuses were removed by caesarean section. For postnatal test, ciprofloxacin exposed at first day of lactation until weaning. Behaviour toxicity was conducted by Behavioral Test Battery, and observing its effect on litters kidney by paraffin method. Quantitative data were analyzed with Anova and Duncan’s Multiple Range Test. Results showed that teratogenic effects of ciprofloxacin were fetuses death, resorption and hemorrhage. For behaviour toxicity, delayed ability was noticed at 28,5 mg/kg BW obviously, histologically there were disturbances of kidney, which were the thickening of bowman’s capsule, constriction of glomerular capillaries and necrosis.

Abstract

Optimization of a production of a bioplastic poly (3 - hidroxybutirat) (P(3HB) by fermentation using Bacillus sp FAAC 20801 bacteria and rice straw as carbon source has been carried out. Detection of P(3HB) was done using gas chromatography. The highest glucose level obtain by using H2SO4 5% for hydrolisis. 46,800 mg straw (glucose concentration 200 mg/ml) were obtained 5,379 mg biomass and 0.058 mg P(3HB) ; from 83,400 mg rice straw (glucose concentration 400 mg/ml) were obtained 5,011 mg biomass and 0.124 mg P(3HB) ; from 142,800 mg rice straw (glucose concentration 600 mg/ml) were obtained 3,992 mg biomass and 2.309 mg P(3HB).

Abstract

A study on degradation of plastic film of the mixture of polystyrene sintetic polymers (PS) with poli(3-hidroxyibutirat) [P(3HB)] dan poli(3-hidroksibutirat-ko-3-hidroxyvalerat) [P(3HB-ko-3HV)] biopolymers in-vitro and in-vivo has been done. The assay was done by immersion test method in aquadest, river water at various pH of 4,6,8, and 10 respectively. Degradation rate was determined by linear regression with parameters including : t 50%, t 95% and rate constant (k). Degradation rate of plastic film of 1 PS/P(3HB) 95:5 at pH 6 was the fastest with k = 0,79 % week, t 50 % = 63,06 week and t 95 % = 119,84 week, followed by PS/P(3HB) 90 : 10 with k = 1,22 % / week, t 50 % = 41,25 week and t 95 % = 78,21 week and PS/P(3HB) 80 : 20 with k = 3,16 % week, t 50 % = 15,81 week and t 95 % = 30,05 week while pure PS plastic film (100 : 0 ) did not degraded at all. The degradation rate of a mixture of plastic film in river water, PS/P(3HB-ko-3HV) 95:5 showed k= 0,64 % week, t 50 % = 82,63 week and t 95 % = 157,17 week, PS/P(3HB-ko-3HV) 90:10 with k = 0,69 % week, t 50 % = 72,16 week and t 95 % = 137,4 week ; PS/P(3HB-ko-3HV) 85:15 with k = 0,74 %/week, t 50% = 66,79 week and t 95% = 127,32 week, while the pure PS plastic film (100:0) did not degrade.
