Abstract

Soil in Indonesia are mostly clay and silt, which tend to be unstable, such as the soill support, compressive strength of soil and land subsidence. Unconfined Compression Test is a method thatdone in the laboratory to measure compression until the soil separates from its grains and tomeasure the soil stretch from that press. In this research to improve the quality of the soil usedmaterials like cement mixer with a variety of curing 7 days, 14 days and 28 days in order todetermine the optimum strength in clay and silt. From the effect of variations in curing time on compressive strength test values obtainedincrease in the compressive strength at the highest cement mix with a variety of curing time of 14days at 0.5927 kg /cm 2 for clay. On the silt soil increase in the compressive strength with thehighest free 14-day curing time variation of 0.5819 kg / cm2. Under optimal conditions theinfluence of a mixture of cement on clay and silt soil occurred in 9% of cement mix with a curingtime of 14 days. From the results obtained show consistent with an increase in cement content,an increase in the value of qu. With increasing curing time then the compressive strength alsoincreased. Keywords: compressive strength, cement, curing, clay, silt

Abstract

Soil is the material that serves as a support for the construction base. Each region has different soil characteristics in other areas, there has a carrying capacity of good to bad or poor. Clay and silt soil has a bearing capacity and low soil properties. To overcome this, the need to improve the soil natures with the stabilization method. Stabilization is to improve the physical and mechanical properties of the soil so that it meets certain technical requirements. One way is with a cement stabilization. In this study, the cement used is a cement-type portland cement. This study aimed to compare the value of CBR clay and silt before and after stabilized by the addition of cement and given soaking treatment. Soil used is a type of clay taken from the village of Rawa Sragi, District Jabung, East Lampung district and silt types from  Yosomulyo Village, East Metro District, Metro City. In CBR soaking test with mixture of 9% cement with modified proctor compaction and cured for 28 days, CBR values decrease to 28,7% for clay that soaked for 28 days, while the CBR value for silt soil with the same condition descease to 37,8%. The soaking treatment is proven to decrease the value of CBR significantly compared with the optimum condition of both soil.

Abstract

Along with the rise of civil construction such as housing or settlements, also increase the demandfor bricks. To be able to meet the needs of these bricks, brick production must be increased. Notonly an increase in production should be done, but the increase in terms of quantity and in termsof quality also needs to be done. One way to do is to add an additional mixture to the compositionof the brickyardIn this study used clay and additional materials TX-300 which has a variety of levels of 0.6 ml, 0.9ml, 1.2 ml and 1.5 ml with the purpose to improving the quality of the bricks, as well as comparingstrong press bricks by modifying the combustion time. Soil samples tested in this study is claywhich derived from Nyunyai street, Rajabasa, Bandar Lampung. Variations of burning time is usedfor one day, two days and three days. After doing research, from the fourth level, the compressive strength maximum average post-combustion bricks are at a level of 1.5 ml with a burning for two days. The compressive strengthvalue of 46.01 kg / cm2. This is due to the greater levels of TX-300, the greater the compressivestrength value, besides the most optimum burning time is for 2 days, this was due to theevaporation of water contained in the most optimum bricks are burning for two days. Keywords: Bricks, Clay, TX-300, Compressive Strenght
