Abstract

The growth of youth population has now become a strategic consideration of global trends predicted by 2030. In many parts of the world, the growth of youth population is increasingly uncontrolled. According to the Central Agency on Statistics, it revealed that Indonesia's population is dominated by a productive age group that is between 15-64 years old. This condition shows that Indonesia is moving into an era of demographic dividend. However, the fact that the human development index of Indonesia is too low; Indonesia ranked 110 out of 188 countries in the world and with massive numbers of academic unemployment, as if showing the unpreparedness of Indonesia in facing demographic dividend. This paper, attempts to highlight upon; the immense impact of mistaking majors to the human resource competence. Examine the key factors of wrong majors' phenomenon, and how do implications arise when students are incorrectly selected. Through this research, the most striking findings are: the key factors that trigger wrong majors' phenomenon that is caused by the influence of significant person statistics, low passing grade becoming their consideration to be accepted in college; they didn’t gain any intensive preparation for going to college; the existence of consciousness upon the demands of experts, so that they preferred majors based on what the market needs not relying on their interest; and also the fears for not doing anything after graduating from high school. Mistaking majors implies towards the psychic of the college student; such as, highly vulnerable to being stressed because they are not able to adjust to the learning process.

Abstract

Based on Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Indonesia will face a demographic bonus era during 2020-2035. That implies that the number of productive-age population will be higher than elderly peopleand children (dependents). This phenomenon offers an opportunity due to a lower dependencyburden. However, the situation could be catastrophic if the government is not ready to equip theproductive age population with necessary skills. The objective of this study is to determine whetheror not higher spending on education has positive influence on human capital formation in BengkuluProvince. The research used panel data analysis of ten regions in Bengkulu Province for the 2010-2014 periods. Research results showed that spending on education does not have significant impacton human capital development, while women empowerment and infrastructure have positive effecton human capital. Our results imply that more spending on education does not matter if it is notsupported by quality infrastructure that makes education facilities accessible.

Abstract

Considering the structure of its population, Indonesia has the potential to enjoy advantages that are associated with a demographic dividend in the not too distant future. Nonetheless, there are challenges the country is facing, one of which is the coming into being of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). This research describes the state of the labor market in Indonesia to identify how best it can benefit from the demographic dividend, including problems, and how to resolve them. The research uses Multiple Linear Regression with backward elimination method. Re-sults of the research indicated that independent variables in the model showed a negative and significant influence on the economy. To that end, working below 15 hours, and unemployment of the educated are the two most important problems facing in Indonesian labor market. Rec-ommended solutions to the problem is to encourage educated unemployed to participate in Mi-cro and Small Manufactures that deal in processing agricultural commodities to become ready-to-consumer goods.
