Abstract

Pondok pesantren or pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) are unique Islamic educational institutions that have actively and significantly contributed to various aspects of Indonesian society. Law No. 18 of 2019 concerning Pesantren emphasizes that pesantren are expected to be well-managed, including in their finances. This paper aims to uncover the financial governance practices of pesantren salafiyah. A qualitative research design with an ethnographic approach was conducted at Pondok Pesantren Assalafy Al Asror, a recognized and well-developed Salafiyah Islamic boarding school in Semarang. Participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation were applied to obtain data from kiai, nyai, administrators, alumni, and other relevant parties. Data analysis techniques were carried out through qualitative research stages. The results of the study indicate that the financial governance of the Pondok Pesantren Al Asror has been running through simple recording and reporting, simple supervision, and contributions from internal and external parties. VA technology has been implemented to strengthen revenue accountability, enabling tactical policymaking. Other results indicate that Pesantren Al Asror has not implemented Islamic boarding school accounting or institutions without public accountability, such as ISAK 35 and PAP 2024.

Abstract

Digital transformation has accelerated economic growth in Indonesia, yet women in the technology sector continue to face structural and cultural challenges in advancing their careers. Early-career women often encounter difficulties in balancing work and personal life, limited workplace flexibility, and unsupportive social norms. This study employs an interpretative phenomenological approach to explore women's career dynamics in the tech sector through the lens of the Kaleidoscope Career Model (KCM), which comprises three core dimensions: authenticity, balance, and challenge. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with seven female employees in Indonesian tech companies and analyzed using NVivo 14 verse. The findings reveal that the challenge dimension is most prominent in the early career phase, driven by continuous learning, organizational support, and a desire for growth. Authenticity is reflected in alignment with personal values, meaningful work, and social contribution. Meanwhile, balance is expressed through mental health strategies, time management, and support from family or partners. The study concludes that women's careers in technology are adaptive and shaped by an ongoing negotiation between personal identity, social expectations, and organizational demands. These insights offer practical implications for organizations to design more flexible work systems, support female career development, and foster inclusive environments.

Abstract

This paper studies how land ownership is gendered within rural Indonesian households and whether women’s land ownership is associated with household welfare, female labor participation, and food security. Using nationally representative SUSENAS 2018 household and individual modules, construct land ownership typologies that distinguish ownership by the male household head, the spouse, children, other members, and multiple‑owner arrangements. Weighted OLS models with province fixed effects and district‑clustered standard errors show that households where the spouse owns land exhibit higher per‑capita expenditure than otherwise similar landowning households. Logistic models indicate that female land ownership is positively associated with women’s labor participation but is not significantly linked to food insecurity, while male ownership is correlated with lower food insecurity. Interaction and split‑sample tests reveal no statistically meaningful heterogeneity between Java and non‑Java regions. The findings support the view that women’s property rights are linked to economic resilience and agency in rural Indonesia, even though some welfare measures based on non‑monetary living conditions respond differently. Policies that expand women’s land titles, secure joint ownership, and complement land programs with human‑capital and market access interventions are likely to yield broad welfare gains.

Abstract

The circulation of New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) represents an increasingly multidimensional non-traditional security challenge, particularly when medical substances such as etomidate are misused through electronic cigarette devices (e-cigarettes). This study analyzes the cross-border dissemination of etomidate in Southeast Asia and its implications for human security in Indonesia. Using a qualitative approach with a phenomenological emphasis, this research draws on primary data obtained through interviews with the Indonesian National Narcotics Board (BNN), complemented by secondary data from international studies, policy documents, reports, and media coverage. The findings reveal that the dissemination of etomidate exploits regulatory gaps, product innovation, and adaptive Transnational Organized Crime (TOC) networks, with adolescents identified as the primary target group. From the perspective of Asia’s communitarian-oriented human security framework, the misuse of etomidate threatens not only individual well-being but also social resilience, collective values, and community stability. This study suggests that while law enforcement remains an essential component in addressing this issue, its effectiveness needs to be strengthened through social support derived from families and communities. Accordingly, reinforcing family- and community-based protection frameworks, such as the Family UNited approach, constitutes a more contextual and sustainable preventive strategy in responding to the growing threat of synthetic narcotics in Indonesia.

Abstract

This article examines the entanglement of artificial intelligence (AI) and popular digital culture through a case study of the music video “Preman Anggaran” by the band Parikesit. The video features an AI generated female figure, modestly veiled yet styled in casual, tomboyish attire, performing socially charged rap-punk lyrics that critique political corruption and class inequality. Employing Norman Fairclough’s model of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) in conjunction with theoretical insights from Cultural Studies, this study interrogates the ideological, representational, and resistant dimensions embedded in both the textual and visual content. The analysis reveals how confrontational lexical choices, oppositional semantics, and direct narrative structures function as linguistic strategies of symbolic resistance. The production process, which relies on AI generated aesthetics, subverts conventional norms of visual representation and enables alternative forms of cultural expression. The video’s dissemination via digital platforms such as YouTube and TikTok exemplifies a non-institutional mode of circulation, while its reception demonstrates participatory engagement and affective resonance among politically conscious audiences. Ultimately, this study foregrounds the methodological relevance of CDA and cultural studies in navigating the cultural politics of algorithmically mediated expression, highlighting how AI can be mobilized as a vehicle for symbolic intervention and alternative articulation in contemporary popular culture.

Abstract

Institutional theory highlights that organizational success relies not only onresource availability but also on acceptance within its environment.Institutional isomorphism refers to the tendency of organizations within thesame industry to adopt similar structures and strategies due to sharedenvironmental pressures. In the context of micro and small enterprises(MSEs), digitalization has become a pivotal factor influencing businessprocesses. Female MSEs exhibit diverse responses to digitalization, driven bythe COVID-19 pandemic and market demands to enter digital commerce. Thisstudy investigates the strategies female MSEs employ to adapt to digitaltechnology. Using a qualitative approach, in-depth interviews were conductedin September 2022 with female MSEs in Depok. The findings reveal thatnormative and mimetic isomorphism are dominant strategies, while coerciveisomorphism is absent. Challenges in adopting digitalization stem from bothpersonal and external factors. Despite these obstacles, female MSEs recognizethe significance of digitalization for business sustainability. To addressadaptation issues, many rely on support from family and communitynetworks, facilitating the integration of digital tools into their operations. Thiscollaborative approach underscores the importance of social support inovercoming barriers to digital transformation within MSEs.

Abstract

The digital era has revolutionized social interactions, including discussions onreligious issues, through digital platforms. However, platform algorithms oftenfoster filter bubbles and echo chambers, limiting access to diverse informationand intensifying social polarization. Filter bubbles expose users only to contentaligning with their views, while echo chambers amplify these views withoutengaging alternative perspectives. These dynamics pose challenges to interfaithdialogue and threaten religious moderation in Indonesia, a nation characterizedby its vast religious diversity. This article examines these challenges using theconcepts of filter bubbles and echo chambers as analytical lenses, focusing onhow algorithms exacerbate polarized religious understanding and hinderopenness to differing views. To address these issues, a comprehensive approachinvolving society, government, and digital platforms is essential. Enhancingdigital literacy within society can cultivate critical thinking and openness todiverse perspectives. The government must establish policies promotinginterfaith dialogue and curbing divisive content. Simultaneously, digitalplatforms should design algorithms that prioritize inclusivity, introduce variedperspectives, and foster harmonious interactions. Collaboration among thesestakeholders can create a digital environment that upholds religious moderation, supports unity in diversity, and mitigates the risks posed by algorithm-drivenpolarization.
