Abstract

This research analyzes media framing regarding the rejection and acceptance of Rohingya as refugees in Indonesia. The research focuses on the framing of news coverage issued by UNHCR and the Aceh District Government, as well as other media that explicitly voice rejection of the presence of the Rohingya. Content analysis was used as the main approach to investigate how this issue was presented and further explored in the media so that differences in media were observed in depicting this topic. The research results show that UNHCR views the Rohingya as an entity that has the right to be welcomed in Aceh, based on Human Rights principles and the belief that their presence will not exploit conditions in Aceh. On the other hand, the news framing that rejects the presence of the Rohingya comes from justification for Indonesia's non-participation in signing the refugee convention, which is interpreted as the basis that Indonesia is not obliged to accept the Rohingya. The Aceh Regional Revenue and Expenditure Budget allocation for handling the flood disaster strengthens the reasons for rejection, accompanied by firm demands from the Aceh District Government for the Indonesian government to respond to this policy. The urgency of this research lies in the need for an in-depth understanding of the dynamics of media framing which can shape public opinion and influence government policy regarding humanitarian issues in local, regional, and even international contexts.

Abstract

Students at the Ummul Quro Al Islami Bogor Institute are currently more familiar and many even use virtual communication in their daily lives on campus, this is in line with the increasingly rapid growth of virtualcommunication platforms such as WhatsApp and the like, so this influences conversations in the real world. The aim of this research is to find out how the virtual communication trend influences students' interpersonal communication skills. This research uses quantitative research methods. The research subjects were students of the Ummul Quro Institute from 9 existing study programs, namely KPI, BKI, MPI, PBA and others. The results of the research were related to an increase in the effectiveness of virtual communication but a decrease in interpersonal communication interactions. The main factor that is felt to be hindering is that the trend of virtual communication has not yet become more rapid so that students forget their identity in the real world due to their busy lives in the virtual world.

Abstract

Significant changes in the film industry encourage access via the YouTube platform and are no longer limited to the big screen. The current development of YouTube in Indonesia, with the emergence of web series on YouTube channels, has become a popular way to pass the time or relax after activities. Web series films are a form of public viewing that incorporates modern concepts. The researchers researched the web series "Terima Kost Putri" on YouTube, uploaded by @JalangkoteRasaKeju, which explores the theme of conflict in interpersonal relationships. This study aims to uncover the message hidden in the dynamics of interpersonal conflict depicted by the characters Rima and Nisa in the web series film "Terima Kost Putri." The researcher then used qualitative methods. The first and second episodes were chosen as study materials to identify scenes of conflict between Rima and Nisa, which were then analyzed using Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotics. The Triadic model has three main components: Representation (Sign), Object, and Interpretant. The analysis shows that the first message has three meanings based on the An Expressed Struggle aspect. First, the meaning of interpersonal conflict messages can be seen in their differences in background, preferences, and values. Rima is not interested in Korean films or music. On the contrary, Nisa likes Korean films and music. Second, based on the Perceived Scarce Resources and Interference aspects of interpersonal conflict messages, there are differences in urgent interests and the influence of socio-cultural status, where Nisa needs to use the toilet while Rima is still using it. Third, the relevant aspects of interpersonal conflict of Perceived Scarce Resources and Interference reappeared, where the meaning of interpersonal conflict messages based on the lack of open communication between them becomes an obstacle. Nisa showed emotional irritation when she found Rima left trash in front of her room and used her glass.

Abstract

According to recent media reports, online gambling transactions have reached a critical point. The transaction totals reach hundreds of trillions of Rupiah and involve students, housewives, ordinary citizens, and state officials. As a result, issues like divorce, suicide, and murder emerge, endangering society. Various efforts have been made to combat the rise of gambling, particularly online gambling, including dawah bil lisan (oral preaching), education, and the eradication of gambling websites. However, online gambling demonstrates that the trend is still growing. Thus, the primary focus of this article is to discuss the structural Dawah perspective on comprehensively eliminating online gambling. This study aims to examine the phenomenon of online gambling and potential solutions within the structural dawah paradigm. This study used qualitative methods to analyze library data, such as verified and relevant books, journals, and online news sources. The results of this study reveal that structural Dawah can be an essential solution to eradicating online gambling because the structural position of the government has the power and strength to regulate and prohibit online gambling by the principles of Dawah.
