Abstract

Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2018 report revealed that in mathematics the ability of Indonesian students to solve mathematical problems is still very low. The Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) strengthened the PISA report by mentioning that in general, Indonesian students' ability in solving fraction problems is low. In this study, We tried to improve students' ability in solving fractions by using computational thinking assisted by an authentic learning approach. A system was utilized to help the students in learning fractions. Totally twenty-two fifth-grade students were assigned in this study. While they learned fractions using the system, they needed to capture an object around them to make a representation of the fraction problem. Moreover, by using the system, they also need to find the best and fastest way to solve a fraction problem. The result showed that their learning achievements improved especially in fraction representation, fraction operation, linguistics, and creativity. And multiple regression results showed that students’ activity can predict the students’ learning achievement. The more active the learn fraction using the system, the higher score they get. In the final, the result of this study contributes essential implications along with a conclusion and suggestion for future research.

Abstract

The present work determines the presence in the web 2.0 that twenty universities had through their educational portals. The universities are selected according to the Webometrics ranking (the ten best located in Indonesia and the best located worldwide) to identify what Web 2.0 tools they use. This study explores the educational portals of the twenty selected universities to determine which Web 2.0 tools they use and variables of the tools found will be assessed. The  study only considers those Web 2.0 tools which are linked to the websites of universities. Of the two most used tools, the relevant indicators are quantified from Youtube "Subscribers" and "Views " and Twitter "tweets" following", and "followers". Afterward, the results are shown and analyzed to establish possible relationships between the indicators of each tool. The results reflect the heterogeneous and, in many cases, polarized presence that universities had on web 2.0 through their educational portals. We hope that the work will help universities have a verifiable reference instrument to develop their academic communication strategies through these tools on the way to a 2.0 university model.

Abstract

The elevator has an important role in assisting transportation and logistics activities in a building. However, if the elevator is not used wisely, then the power consumption will be inefficient. A policy of elevator usage is necessary to ensure the effectiveness of elevator power consumption. Therefore, in this study, elevator power consumption monitoring is proposed. The power consumption behavior can be learned so a suitable policy can be made accordingly. Two elevators in Telkom Campus Surabaya are monitored to understand the daily electrical energy usage. Internet of Things (IoT) based real-time power monitoring system is used to monitor the electrical energy usage of the elevator. A raspberry pi is used to collect the data of electrical usage via a current and power sensor. The data is sent to the cloud, which later is displayed through a dashboard website. The result shows that the elevator usage on weekdays and weekends is different. The peak power on weekdays is obtained from 15.00 to 16.00, meanwhile, on weekends, the peak occurs from 9:00 to 10:00. On weekdays, the total power consumed by the elevator is 51.74kW, while on weekends, it is 11.94kW. Restrictions on the use of lifts are applied to periods when the lift has few passengers and has a short distance. From the results obtained, the total power consumed can decrease by an average of 37%. It is expected that the suggested policies can reduce elevator power consumption and the monthly cost of electrical energy.

Abstract

Renewable energy is one of the options to meet the increasing energy needs. As a tropical country, Indonesia has great potential for solar energy development. At this time, solar panels have been built in places exposed to direct light. However, monitoring solar panels is still performed manually using a multimeter by operators or field officers, so it cannot be performed in real-time. Real-time tracking is carried out to prevent damage and decreased performance of solar panels. Hence, we designed a real-time solar panel monitoring system based Internet of Things (IoT) using the Blynk application on a smartphone. Based on the test between the measuring instrument and the Blynk application, the error percentage is 0.59% for voltage testing, 0.0001% for current testing, 1.03% for power testing, and 2.09% for temperature testing. A strong internet connection will significantly affect the performance of solar panels in real-time. This research is expected to monitor solar panel parameters remotely via a smartphone without having to come to the location and make it easier for users to monitor.

Abstract

In 2025, Indonesia has launched a zero-waste program. Towards a zero-waste program, of course, the community is given awareness in sorting and processing waste. Waste management is a common problem in urban or rural areas, along with the increase in population and people's lifestyles. Waste problems that are not handled properly can cause environmental problems (pollution of air, soil, and water) and public health. Based on the origin, waste is divided into organic and inorganic waste; organic waste is produced from biological materials that can be degraded by microbes or are biodegradable, or waste from fruit, vegetable, and leaf residues. This organic waste is the majority of the waste generated from households, so it is necessary to think about how to process it that is beneficial and efficient. One of these organic waste processing is processed into Eco enzymes, namely processing organic waste with molasses and water in a ratio of !:3:10. The organic waste processing process is first chopped to become a small part to facilitate the fermentation process. The automation of this chopping machine uses Arduino as a microcontroller, a load cell as a measure of the weight of organic waste, an electric motor as a driving force, a solenoid door lock as a lock for the organic waste load before grinding, and a knife as an organic waste count. The purpose of making this tool is to help chop organic waste in the process of processing eco enzymes. The research results on the automation of this organic waste chopper machine loadcell with a load of 1 Kg runs well; the solenoid door lock can hold organic waste to work well. The research results on the motor for upper milling are given a large torque equipped with a downward knife position and a pillow block so that the motor does not shake.
