Abstract

This study aims to: (1) to identify the forms of institutional and analyze interaction at the institutional organic rice agribusiness; (2) to design the institutional model in organic rice agribusiness. The study was conducted by using descriptive method. Result of the analysis showed that the profile of organic rice agribusiness institutions include: farmers, farmers' groups combined Sympathy, organic farmers cooperatives, village cooperatives, private enterprises agro-industry (CV), BPP, NGO, exporters, agro-industry company. The conditions of farmer organizations today are more cultural and mostly just to government facilities, it has not been fully geared to take advantage of economic opportunities through the use of accessibility to information technology, capital and markets necessary for the development of organic rice agribusiness and agricultural businesses. On the other hand, institutional businesses in rural areas, such as the cooperative has not fully accommodate the interests of farmers / farmer groups as a forum for technical guidance. Various farmer institution that already exist such as farmers 'groups, farmers' groups combined, the association of water user farmers are expected on the challenges ahead to revitalize themselves and institutions that currently more dominant just as container technical development and social into institutional also serve as a platform for business development legal entity or can integrate other institutions in the agribusiness chain of organic rice. Model on organic rice agribusiness institution system is based on agribusiness and institutional dimensions as well as the three pillars of the new institutional.

Abstract

The expansion of crop land to suboptimal land (especially in the outside of Java Island) should be set up as source of agriculture crop production growth. Saturated-soil Cultivation (SSC) Technology is able to improve the productivity of soybean plants up to 4.0 tons/ha in the suboptimal land. This research is aims to examine the decision making process on innovation adoption of soybean Saturated-soil Cultivation (SSC) Technology, conducted in Labuan Ratu Enam Village, East Lampung Regency. Main approaches were used in this research is Rogers’ theory of innovation diffusion. Decision process was divided into four main group of analysis: i) communication channel and general description of stages in the innovation decision, ii) influential variables of respondents’ characteristics on the knowledge stage using Kruskall-Wallis test, iii) influential variables of the innovation’s attributes on the persuasion stage using Spearman Correlation test, and iv) correlation between the stages of innovation decision process using Spearman Correlation test and Mann-Whitney test. The results  shows that i) interpersonal channel is chosen as the way to diffuse SSC innovation to 25 potential farmer adopters through discussion, direct practice, and guidance; ii) the influential variables of individuals’ characteristics are leve of nonformal education and level of motivation, while level of formal education and farming experience is not significant difference in their knowledge level about SSC; iii) there is significant correlation between the level of respondents’ persuasion and their perception on the innovation complexity and triability, but not compatability and observability; iv) each stage of SSC innovation-decision, one stage to another in sequence, has significant positive correlation.

Abstract

The need for rural land agrarian reforms has reached heightened levels in South Africa in recent years. Resultantly, the communal land use effectiveness is questioned due to persistent poor performance and declining agricultural output that fails to address rural poverty and food insecurity. This is one of the major causes of why South Africa's rural economies are generally characterized by stagnant economic growth. This points to deep-rooted and unique challenges that need urgent attention if meaningful support and resilience systems are to be built for rural agrarian land reforms to be realized. The present study investigated challenges and characterized factors that lead to the prosperity of rural agricultural projects in communal land ownership. An exploratory study design was followed, and the data was collected using interviews and focus group discussions from communal farmers and key informants. Data were analyzed thematically with the aid of Atlas. Ti version 8.1.4. “Information challenges” and “water scarcity” describe some of the common challenges faced by rural farmers. Six critical success factors were identified and found to be related. “Effective project management and control” and “improved support from and partnership with local community stakeholders” are success factors that, if targeted first, could address most challenges faced in rural agrarian reforms. The results suggest that partnership with the private sector can help farmers commercialize and move swiftly towards agro-processing. Identified threats and successes must be prioritized in designing and formulating region-specific rural agrarian support programs for communal farmers.

Abstract

Improvement of agricultural resource management systems, especially irrigation water, is important in determining sustainable agriculture. This study aims to describe the quality of irrigation services on rice farming as well as its corelation to the farmers Willingness To Pay (WTP) irrigation services. The study was conducted in rice farming centers namely Sleman and Bantul Regency based on irrigation river flows that crossed the region. Respondents were taken from each irrigation area as many as 5 farmers using simple random sampling with total number of samples were 125 farmers.The irrigation service data and farmers Willingness To Pay irrigation services were analyzed using rank Spearman correlation to see the corelation of both factors. The result showed that there was a negative correlation between irrigation services and farmers Willingness To Pay irrigation fees., In general, rice farming irrigation services in Special Region of Yogyakarta are in good category, however willingness of farmers to pay irrigation services (WTP) is low. In order to support the sustainability of longterm irrigation services, it requires public awareness, especially farmers in irrigation utilization and the provision of smart irrigation control in irrigation maintenance.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the mapping, measure performance, and analyze problems in the structure of rice supply chain management on the supplier network phase in South Sumatra. Afterward, the result of this study is used as the basic consideration to improve the rice supply chain performance on indicators that have problems. Data collection was conducted by direct interview, questionnaire, and observation. This study used descriptive qualitative and several analysis tools as the data such as Supply Chain Operation Reference Model (SCOR), Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), Objective Matrix (OMAX) and Traffic Light System (TLS). According to the rice supply chain mapping on supplier network phase, there are three rice supply chains. Based on the interview, the farmers’ main problem as the main producers of the rice supply chain in South Sumatra is the limitation of unhusked rice price information in harvesting in the financial flow of rice supply chain. Based on the weighting result by OMAX scoring system, the total index value is 7.28, or in the yellow category which means that the performance of LICM rice- industry company in South Sumatra has not achieved the expected performance in terms of rice supply chain even though the result is close to the pre-determined target.

Abstract

As a major share expenditure for the poor, rice is attributed as a strategic food commodity in the Indonesian economy. For many decades, the Indonesian rice market has been intervened by the price regulation. The Indonesian government had set two types of rice price policies of 2016 and 2017 with the argument of price stabilization during the last five years. This study aimed to investigate the effect of price policies of 2016 and 2017 on the domestic price dynamics in the Indonesian rice market. This study used daily price series taken from the Cipinang Wholesale Rice Market in Jakarta within the period of October 1st, 2014, until February 12th, 2018 covering 10 rice varieties. The role of price policy on the price dynamics was evaluated by using a multivariate error correction model (MVECM). The empirical findings confirmed that generally, these price policies had different effects on the price dynamics which proposed different reactions from the different rice varieties both in magnitude and signs. The variations were also found regarding the short-run and long-run behavior. Generally, the findings suggested a relatively small elasticity of the policy on the prices.

Abstract

The imbalance between supply and demand of ornamental plants in the market cause fluctuations that lead to price volatility. This study aimed to analyze the price volatility of ornamental plants with high economic value, such as orchids, adenium, aglaonema, anthurium, and palm. This study also analyzed the long-term and short-term relationship between the production and prices of these ornamental plants. The data used were the productions and prices of orchid, adenium, aglaonema, anthurium, and palm at the producer level from 2012 to 2020 obtained from the Agriculture Office of Batu Municipality. Volatility analysis was carried out using the ARCH/GARCH method, the long-term relationship was analyzed using the Johansen cointegration test, and the short-term relationship was carried out using the Error Correction model. The results of volatility analysis showed that all the ornamental plants studied had low price volatility. In addition, the productions and prices of the ornamental plants were cointegrated in the long run, but only the orchid had a short-term relationship with an adjustment period of 2.6 months.
