Abstract

This article aims at describing the syntactic properties and distributions of Personal Pronouns in Sambori Language, a language spoken by the people who occupy Sambori Village and others nearby villages in Lambitu, a montainous district of Bima Regency. Sambori Language is claimed to be a different language from Bima Language due to its characteristic of which sounds are different from those of Bima Language. This fact is used by the people of Sambori to legimate their existence by reffiring the language they speak as Inge Ndai. However, no research documentations have proved that Sambori Language belongs to a single language which is classified into a particular group or sub group under the Austronesian Language group. This study deals with the documentation of the syntactic properties and distributions of Sambori Language which focuses on describing the personal pronoun system of the language, describing types of personal pronouns and their syntactic properties and distributions. The data of this study were taken from elicitation, interview, and decumentation. The result of the study shows that Sambori Language has a set of morphologically independent personal pronouns (full pronouns) and a set of clitics. These two sets of personal pronouns show a different syntactic properties and distributions. Only full pronouns which can occur as independent clausal arguments of both intransitive and transitive constructions. In addtion to their distributions, clitic pronouns cannot occur with numerals, relatives, demonstarives, and NPs as the full pronouns can. This sytactical evidences show that Sambori language is different from Bima Language.       Keywords: personal pronoun, clitics, synactic distribution, Sambori Language

Abstract

Abstract-The visual and non-visual advertisement is created to attract consumer’s interest for the product, an important aspect to deliver the message is by advertising and branding the product with local wisdom and culture. As it deilivered clearly,  informative and communicative it will be a solution of global market, recently the consumers are not dirrectly attracted to advertisement because the advertisement can’t transfer the message naturally. This article is qualitative research, it describes the phenomena of Coca cola branding on TV, Net.  The strategy is the key success of marketting to achieve the profit and bring the messages delivered. The global branding delivered by Coca cola opens insight of strategy to grasp the prospective consumers. The topic of the recent video advertisement on TV, Net called open happiness.This strategy is created to fasten the effect of advertisement for consumers, positive response to buy the product. However there is a challenge to opt the right culture for branding the product. It has great success because it uses both methods of marketing textual and graphic. Those two reflect on political and cultural aspects of targetted language. This is done to attract the consumers topurchase the products and gain the maximum benefits. Benefits of capital and trust. Ads on TV, Net with the topic open happiness uses both textual and graphic.Keyword : advertisement, audio visual translation, branding, deliver.

Abstract

                                                                 Abstrak Kajian ini memfokuskan penguasaan aras  kognitif, iaitu aras pengetahuan, kefahaman, aplikasi, analisis, sintesis dan penilaian dalam mengukur potensi berbahasa kanak-kanak. Selain itu, kajian ini turut meneliti amalan pengajaran guru prasekolah dalam meningkatkan aras kognitif kanak-kanak. Kajian  ini menekankan Aras Taksonomi Bloom (1956) sebagai gagasan pengukuran dalam meneliti  tahap kognitif  kanak-kanak yang bermula daripada peringkat rendah hingga ke peringkat tinggi berteraskan lima bidang bahasa, iaitu fonologi,morfologi, sintaksis, semantik dan pragmatik. Seramai  75 orang kanak-kanak yang berumur lingkungan 3 hingga 5 tahun dipilih secara rawak untuk ditemu bual dan diukur melalui Instrumen Penilaian Terancang di lima lokasi taska terpilih. Dapatan kajian mendapati  bahawa amalan pengajaran guru-guru prasekolah tidak mengukur  domain kognitif kanak-kanak secara holistik, sebaliknya hanya melibatkan komponen-komponen tertentu sahaja. Analisis juga menunjukkan bahawa tahap penguasaan kognitif kanak-kanak bermula daripada aras yang paling tinggi . Hal ini kerana mereka dapat menjawab soalan dalam bidang semantik dan pragmatik, iaitu pada aras yang lebih tinggi, iaitu pada aras penilaian dan analisis. Keupayaan ini menggambarkan bahawa kanak-kanak pada usia 3 hingga 5 tahun ini peka kepada alam persekitaran mereka sehingga mereka boleh menghubungkaitkan pengalaman dengan bahan rangsangan yang ditunjukkan. Seharusnya guru perlu mengesan tahap kognitif kanak-kanak ini berlandaskan kaedah dan teknik yang lebih praktikal. Pengukuran aspek kognitif perlu dilakukan secara holistik, dengan tidak mengesampingkan komponen tertentu sahaja sebagai aras pengukuran.  Sebaliknya, ia diuji dengan pelbagai bidang linguistik kerana ia mewakili pencapaian bahasa secara keseluruhannya.  Hal ini membuktikan bahawa perancangan pedagogi amat perlu dalam usaha mengenal pasti potensi kognitif kanak-kanak prasekolah dalam abad 21. Kata Kunci: Kognitif, Taksonomi Blom, Fonologi, Morfologi, Sintaksis, Semantik, Pragmatik, Kanaka-kanak

Abstract

Considering the importance of English in today's rapid globalized world, the number of schools whose curriculum adhering to an international curriculum has increased in Indonesia. One of the international curricula is Cambridge Curriculum set in sequence from Cambridge Primary for primary schools to Cambridge ICGSE for high schools. As Cambridge Primary students are justified to speak naturally in English, this article described the practice of English teaching inside English as a Second Language (ESL) class for the 3rd grade in SDK Kalam Kudus, Surakarta. The main inquiry areas were teaching approaches, materials, activities and assessment. Actual data were collected through in-depth interviews, intensive classroom observations, and teaching learning document collection in the forms of learning objectives and students’ work. The findings revealed that teaching and learning approaches followed the principle of metacognition and active learning in which a student-centre classroom was emphasized, while the teacher was autonomous to design the teaching approach. Classroom activities referred to course book exercises as the main materials which were made up with a balance combination of receptive and productive skills. Interactions between teacher and students were positive. Students demonstrated eager learning and participation as well as high competitive atmosphere. Assessment was divided into formative assessment which was carried out every meeting by the teacher and summative assessment which was taken in the end of a learned chapter and school term.Key words: English language teaching, Cambridge Primary Curriculum, English for Primary School

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan (1) mendeskripsikan gambaran tokoh Guru Onyeh dalam novel Guru Onyeh karya Salman Faris, (2) mendeskripsikan perjuangan masyarakat Sasak dalam novel Guru Onyeh karya Salman Faris, dan (3) mendeskripsikan kehidupan masyarakat Sasak dalam novel Guru Onyeh yang merupakan metafora kehidupan masyarakat Sasak dalam kenyataan. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian pustaka dengan metode kualitatif interpretatif. Data diperoleh dan dikumpulkan melalui sumber data primer dan sekunder. Data yang didapat dijelaskan dengan cara deskriptif interpretatif. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori semiotika Charles Sanders Peirce. Hasil penelitian  menunjukkan bahwa tokoh Guru Onyeh dalam novel tersebut memiliki karakter baik. Gambaran karakter tersebut merupakan ikon diagramatis dan ikon imagi (image) yang menceritakan kehidupan tokoh Guru Onyeh serta menggambarkan watak atau karakter Guru Onyeh. Selain itu, perjuangan Guru Onyeh dalam novel tersebut merupakan ikon diagramatis dan ikon imagi (image) bagi perjuangan untuk menata kehidupan masyarakat Sasak. Semua peristiwa atau kejadian yang terjadi dalam novel Guru Onyeh merupakan ikon metaforis bagi kehidupan masyarakat Sasak dalam dunia nyata. Selanjutnya, cerita novel Guru Onyeh merupakan indeks bagi kehidupan sosial budaya masyarakat Sasak, artinya, cerita novel tersebut merupakan tanda dari adanya kehidupan nyata. Selain itu, novel Guru Onyeh merupakan kritik sosial. Artinya, cerita novel tersebut hadir sebagai bentuk kritik terhadap masyarakat Sasak dan penguasa.Kata Kunci: Novel Guru Onyeh, Metafora, Masyarakat Sasak, Salman Faris

Abstract

The objectives of study are: (1) to describe the character education that the teacher prioritized in learning short story appreciation, (2) the teacher's perception of the effectiveness of integrating tolerance education in short story learning, and (3) the teacher's perception of short story teaching materials containing tolerance education. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The data are information or statements of teachers about tolerance education in short story appreciation learning. The data was taken from a data source, namely the Indonesian Language Subject teacher at SMA in Surakarta. Data collection techniques are interviews and questionnaires. Method triangulation techniques as data validation techniques. Interactive analysis techniques as data analysis techniques. The results of this study are as follows. (1) The character that is important to the teacher in learning short stories varies. Overall there are 19 characters that the teacher places importance on teaching. Each teacher attaches importance to 3-10 characters. The characters most chosen by teachers are tolerance (78%), responsibility (67%), and independence and honesty (44% each). (2) All teachers stated that effective tolerance education was integrated in short story appreciation learning, all teachers considered it important to integrate tolerance education into short story learning, and the majority of teachers (67%) stated that tolerance education was urgent to be implemented. (3) In connection with teaching materials, 78% of teachers stated that they had planned short story learning with the character education of tolerance, 78% of teachers had found short stories teaching materials containing education tolerance, and all teachers were willing to use short stories teaching material with tolerance education. Keywords: perception, learning, short story appreciation, tolerance

Abstract

Abstract.Social Feminism expressed by Marxists showed the class gap and the importance of power to women. But it shifted to a more severe realm in all aspects of women's lives. Novel Banat Riyadh gave an overview of four Saudi Arabian girls who seeked to awaken the elements of feminism and reformation for women through the expressions of literary works that became the center of world attention because the facts revealed about the social reality of women was different from what has been understood by the world community today. Therefore, the method used was qualitative with semiotic approach that serves for more complete and detailed research results, using primary data of novel and secondary in the form of books and other scientific works. The result showed that the element of social feminism took place in the character of characters in novels with different backgrounds, education and family rules that restrict and imprison women, dress mode which was considered a reflection of injustice and inequality for women and work structure relation with reality of Arab women social life.Keywords: Social Feminism, Saudi Women, Novel Literature, Social Reality.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan faktor penyebab terjadinya alih kode dan campur kode dalam pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia yang digunakan oleh penutur di lingkungan SMK  kota Medan. Metode yang digunakan ialah deskriptif kualitatif. Data  dalam penelitian ini adalah bahasa – bahasa yang digunakan oleh guru dan siswa pada saat pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia. Pengumpulan data digunakan dengan teknik teknik pengamatan, teknik wawancara dan teknik rekam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Faktor-faktor penyebab Alih kode ialah  (1) penutur, (2) lawan tutur, (3) hadirnya penutur ketiga, (4) pokok pembicaraan dan (5) membangkitkan rasa humor. Faktor penyebab campur kode ialah (1) ingin menjelaskan sesuatu, (2) karena situasi dan (3)  ingin menjalin keakraban antara guru dan siswa.

Abstract

In learning English for beginners like children, teachers have a very important role and will have a big effect on the outcomes of the learning process. In fact, most students in primary schools are difficult to understand English. Therefore, this study is aimed to examine the practices and obstacle factors in the teaching of English to young learners in six public primary schools (grade 4-6) in Pringsewu, Lampung province. This is descriptive research study that observes the process of teaching and learning and gives interviews to the teachers related to the teaching of English to young learners to gather relevant and proper data. The data is analyzed  based on themes and categories identified from the available literature quantitatively and qualitatively. The findings indicate English is taught through Indonesian language. Moreover, it shows that teachers who teach English are lack of proper pre-service training because most of them are not graduated from English Education. Therefore, they are lacking understanding and knowledge of the purpose, procedures and approaches of teaching English to young learners. The teachers also lack of in-service professional development courses on how to deal with young learners because the English position is only as local content. English gets less attention from both schools and government. Therefore, they never get in-service training, textbooks, syllabus and other facilities. This study recommends the change of minister of education regulation that positioning English as a local content to be compulsory subject to maximize the learning process to meet the challenge of globalization era.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk masalah kedudukan wanita Jawa yang digambarkan oleh tokoh Intan  sebagai anak dan istri dalam perspektif gender serta melihat perbedaan wanita Jawa pada zaman dahulu dengan wanita Jawa pada zaman sekarang menjadi salah satu pertimbangan dalam menganalisis novel Alun Samudra. Masyarakat jawa merupakan penganut bentuk dasar sistem terminologi bilateral dan generasional yang menyamaratakan kedudukan laki-laki dan perempuan. Namun, pada kenyataannya tetap saja ada perbedaan dalam senioritas dan jenis kelamin. Dalam budaya jawa pun dikenal istilah Kanca Wingking bagi perempuan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif analitis. Sumber  utama data dalam penelitian ini adalah kutipan dari novel Alun Samudra Rasa karya Ardini Pangastuti Bn yang dianalisis menggunakan prespektif gender. Dari penelitian ini, ditemukan bahwa deskriminasi gender seperti marginalisasi, stereotipe, dan subordinasi melahirkan berbagai kekerasan ekonom, fisik, psikis, dan seksual. Kata kunci : Wanita Jawa, gender, istri
