Abstract

ABSTRACTLanguage usage shows that language has important role and power in changingevents. Kompas–a national daily newspaper–has a unique language characteristic, particularly the one used in editorial. Research on critical discourse analysis of empowering text structure in editorial is crucial to be conducted. The purpose of this research is to explain the empowerment of thematic, schematic, syntactic, and stylisticstructure of discourse in Kompas editorial. This is qualitative research of which object is editorial of Kompas and the data is the text structure of educational, health and environment, and social discourse. Abstract

Masalah umum penelitian ini adalah belum ada model perangkat pembelajaranmenulis legenda dengan strategi belajar kuantum. Sesuai dengan masalah tersebut, tujuan penelitian ini adalah menghasilkan model perangkat pembelajaran menulis legenda dengan strategi belajar kuantum. Hasil penelitian ini berbentuk buku dan elektronik. Model berbentuk buku terdiri atas tiga model, yaitu (1) model silabus dan sistem penilaian pembelajaran menulis legenda, (2) model bahan ajarpembelajaran menulis legenda, dan (3) model skenario pembelajaran menulis legenda. Model berbentuk elektronik berupa satu keping VCD berisi visualisasi materi pelajaran menulis legenda. Berdasarkan analisis data kualitatif, ketiga model perangkat pembelajaran tersebut memiliki keefektifan pada bagian materi pokok, pengalaman belajar, indikator pencapaian, sistem penilaian, dan bagian sumber serta media yang digunakan. Berdasarkan analisis data kuantitatif diketahui bahwa perbedaan skor tes awal dan tes akhir kemampuan menulis legenda dengan strategi belajar konvensional terdapat perbedaan, tetapi perbedaan itu tidak signifikan (p  0,005). Sebaliknya, skor tes awal dan tes akhir kemampuan menulis legenda dengan strategi belajar kuantum terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan (p 0,001). Jadi, ketiga model perangkat pembelajaran tersebut terbukti efektif dan berpengaruh terhadap peningkatan kemampuan menulis legenda.Kata kunci: perangkat pembelajaran, menulis legenda, kuantum.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengangkat permasalahan bentuk tindak tutur perlokusi yang terdapat pada karikatur dalam koran Kompas. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk tindak tutur perlokusi pada karikatur dalam koran Kompas. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan pemahaman bagi pembaca dan penulis mengenai bentuk tindak tutur perlokusi secara signifikan. Sumber data dari penelitan ini adalah karikatur dalam koran Kompas. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik baca yaitu teknik baca SQ3R. Hasil penelitian ini menemukan bahwa tindak tutur perlokusi yang terdapat dalam karikatur mengacu pada lima jenis tindak tutur, di antarnya a) refrensentatif, b) komisif, c) direktif d) ekspresif, dan e) deklarasi.Kata kunci: tindak tutur, perlokusi, karikatur

Abstract

The teaching of English in Indonesia has been marked with the frequent changesin the curriculum. However, those changes do not imply whatsoever any changesin the way teachers deliver lessons in a moment-to-moment classroom teaching.We seem to be too much preoccupied with new concepts and perhaps approach toteaching English but fail to formulate how a certain concept can be translated intoclassroom methods and techniques. This paper seeks to shed a light on how a synthesisof various approaches in language learning can be achieved to provide favorablelearning atmosphere for students and more importantly how different theorieson language learning can be transformed into an operational method andtechniques in the classroom.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mendeskripsikan representasi konsep karakter pemimpin dalam lirik lagu Bugis Bulu’ Alauna Tempe Ciptaan Abdullah Alamudin. Penelitian ini berjenis penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini bersumber dari lirik lagu Bugis Bulu’ Alauna Tempe. Data penelitian berupa kata-kata, frase, atau ungkapan pernyataan yang terdapat dalam lirik. Pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik baca-simak dan pencatatan serta wawancara. Data-data yang telah dikumpulkan dianalisis dengan pendekatan hermeneutika. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, representasi konsep karakter pemimpin yang terdapat dalam lagu Bugis Bulu’ Alauna Tempe Ciptaan Abdullah Alamudin, ditemukan tiga konsep karakter pemimpin, yaitu pemimpin berwibawa tinggi, pemimpin mengayomi sepenuh hati, dan pemimpin sebagai pemegang amanah. Ketiga konsep karakter pemimpin tersebut merupakan kunci sukses dalam menjalankan kepemimpinan.

Abstract

This study is aimed at identifying facilities offered through English property advertisements in printed and electronic media in Indonesia, describing the meanings of lingual and non-lingual elements in the form of pictures in the advertisements and interpreting the messages based on sociocultural perspectives. This is a descriptive qualitative study, applying content analysis to 44 data taken from Kompas, The Jakarta Post, Trans TV and Metro TV. The results show as the following. There are 13 facilities offered through the advertisments. The dominating ones are service, recreation, furniture, and sports. The lingual elements exist in brand, slogan, and price. All brands and products symbolize grandeur, luxury, beauty, exclusiveness, and comfort in a modern life. Prices are in Rupiah, US and Singaporean Dollars, and Euro, indicating that the properties are marketed internationally. The visual elements, supporting the lingual meanings, consists of grand houses with gardens and swimming pools, luxurious furniture and interior designs and beaches. Based on sociocultural perspective, there is a cultural transfer of culture to a modern life-style. The use of English in the advertisements can be interpreted as a subtle way to sell the properties to foreign parties with big capital.

Abstract

Mimetic approach is used in this study to reveal the practice of slavery depicted in two novels "narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas" and "The Interesting Narrative of the life of Olaudah Equiao". The findings show that novels have common ground that is the practice of the slavery of blacks Africans by the whites in America. In some aspects, the slaveholders treated their slave inhumanly, savagely, and brutally. The slaves were really treated like animals in the ways of providing them food, shelter. clothes, and dispensation of rest. They were forbiden to learn of how to write and read. They were forced to work hard without having enough rest. However, when they got wage, they had to give it to their masters. Female slaves were whipped and tortured savagely, and their children were tortured to death. These are the examples of the brutality of the slaveholders.Key words: slavery, slaveholders, slaves, inhumanity, discrimination, and oppression

Abstract

The present study investigates love affair in Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler. This was library research of which primary data source was Hedda Gabler play supported by other resources such as the author’s biography. The data were analyzed based on the individual psychology with a descriptive technique. The result showed that love affair was conducted by the major character, Hedda.

Abstract

Dalam tahun-tahun belakangan ini, banyak pendapat dalam berbagai forummenyatakan bahwa kompetensi menulis siswa-siswa kita mengalami penurunan.Mereka tidak mampu menerapkan proses pembelajaran dalam komunikasi tertulis.Secara umum, kemampuan ini diakibatkan oleh warisan sejarah nasional yangterkait dengan konsep pendidikan kolonialisme, tradisi komunikasi lisan,kebigungan dalam mengungkapkan ide atau gagasan, ketidakmampuan guru dalammengajar, panduan mata pelajaran dasar, dan model-model yang digunakan paraguru dalam menyampaikan pelajaran. Fenomena yang selalu menjadi pembahasanutama dalam proses pembelajaran menulis perlu diatasi sehingga kondisi yangtidak diinginkan dapat dipecahkan. Begitu pula, perlu menemukan penyebabnyasehingga dapat dilakukan diagnosis sebagai proses terapi. Riset ini merupakansalah satu upaya untuk memecahan permasalahan-permasalahan di atas.Kata Kunci: kompetensi menulis, komunikasi tertulis, proces terapi
