Abstract

The sales of the skincare industry in Indonesia increase from year to year. Along with the increase in social media use, it results in newcomers in the local brand sector; one is a brand called Somethinc. This study analyses social media activities (SMA) regarding purchase intention over a local skincare brand in Indonesia. This research was built using quantitative cross-sectional sampling with a total of 258 samples who lived in Jabodetabek. They are following Somethinc on social media, especially its Instagram @somethincofficial, yet they have never purchased Somethinc products. The data were analyzed using the SEM method through the SmartPLS 3.2.9 application. The results show that SMA has direct influences on brand equity, and brand equity influences purchase intention. Moreover, SMA also has a direct effect on purchase intention. This study proves that social media activities (SMA) significantly increase brand awareness, brand image, and purchase intention. The presence of customization, interactions, eWOM, and trendiness further enhance the positive effect. This means that managers must provide the latest and relevant information about their products in all cases. Keywords: Social media activities, Brand equity, Purchase intention, Instagram, Local brand, Skincare

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of leadership styles on group organisational citizenship behaviour (GOCB) and group performance in a cross-cultural context of three ASEAN countries: Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand. Questionnaires were distributed to respondents using local language, and a total of 691 items of data were analysed. The study supports the proposition that supportive leadership positively affects GOCB and group performance, confirming social exchange theory, which posits that if leaders create close relationships with employees, this will make them more engaged in their groups and strive harder to achieve the group goals. The study also supports the notion that directive leadership has a subtle favourable impact on GOCB and group performance. Employees are motivated to fulfil their tasks beyond what is required when managers define how they should conduct their work. Furthermore, the results also indicate that GOCB positively influences group performance, as it facilitates the social functioning of groups. Although the overall results are the same for the three countries, they include distinct explanations that underlie the results.  Keywords: Group organisational citizenship behaviour, Group performance, Leadership, cross-culture

Abstract

Most university students, who are in the process of transitioning from adolescence to adulthood, face difficulties managing their finances independently. To overcome these obstacles, students must have a positive financial attitude. This research aims to investigate both the direct and indirect impacts of parental financial teaching on students’ financial attitudes. In particular, the study examines the mediating effect of self-control on the relationship between financial education by parents and financial behaviors among accounting students. A survey was employed online to 219 accounting students in four different universities in October – December 2023. The data was then analyzed by applying SMART-PLS 4. The results of the analysis indicate that parental financial education tends to improve students’ behaviors in managing their finances. Furthermore, students who receive parental financial teaching are more likely to have positive self-control, which then positively affects their financial behaviors. This study enhances the existing finance literature and practice by demonstrating that improved parent-child communication can lead to the development of strong self-control in students when it comes to managing their finances. Keywords: Parental financial teaching, Financial attitude, Self-control, University students

Abstract

This study focuses on revealing the power of social capital and organizational learning capabilities to increase business performance by using business model innovation as a mediation variable. The population of this study was micro and small enterprises in Palembang amounting to 1.103 SMEs and the sample used was 172 SMEs. The sampling technique uses purposive sampling assuming micro and small enterprises are still actively running their businesses until Agustus 2023. Data analysis uses an SEM-based structural model approach. The survey findings revealed that social capital could significantly improve business model innovation but not for business performance. Organizational learning capabilities could significantly improve business model innovation and performance. Then, business model innovation can reinforce social capital ties, organizational learning capabilities, and business performance. This survey expands the existing knowledge by scrutinizing the role of business model innovation as mediation between social capital and organizational learning capabilities, and, hence, makes a notable adjunct to the existing knowledge in the micro and small enterprises context by concentrating on the connection between social capital, organizational learning capability, business model innovation, and business performance. Keywords: Business model innovation, Business performance, Organizational learning  capabilities, Social capital, SMEs

Abstract

In response to heightened university competition, Institut Teknologi dan Bisnis Asia Malang has witnessed a decline in students' enrollment. To navigate this challenge, the institution aims to establish a competitive edge by adopting the resource-based view theory. This strategic approach emphasizes the unique qualities of the institution's resources, with human capital emerging as the most pivotal. This study involves 120 respondents, exploring the influence of Big Five personality traits, organizational commitment, and attitude toward digital work on employee performance. Using the partial least square structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) method, the findings indicate that the Big Five personality traits insignificantly impact employee performance. The Big Five personality traits significantly impact organizational commitment, and organizational commitment significantly impacts employee performance, in which the organizational commitment serves as a complete mediation. In addition, attitudes towards digital work as quasi-moderating can strengthen the influence of the Big Five personality traits on employee performance. Further research is recommended to analyze the relationship between the dimensions of each variable in more depth. Keywords: Big five personality traits, Organizational commitment, Attitude toward digital work, Employee performance

Abstract

This study focuses on determining the impact of customer variety-seeking on brand switching intention by exploring the mediation role of customer engagement in streaming services in Indonesia. The data were gathered using a purposive sampling technique, and valid responses from 124 respondents were analyzed. The study results showed that customer variety-seeking significantly improves customer engagement. This study also found a non-significant direct effect of customer variety-seeking on brand switching intention and a negative significant effect of customer engagement on brand switching intention. In indirect relationships, customer engagement has a significant negative role in mediating customer variety-seeking and brand switching intentions. Aligned with social exchange theory, brand switching intention was found to be minimal since customer engagement is a significant mediator of customer variety-seeking and this switching. The findings have emphasized fostering customer engagement to increase customer retention. Keywords: Customer variety-seeking, Customer engagement, Brand switching intention, Social exchange theory
