Abstract

The articulation of vowels is a cornerstone of phonological and linguistic studies, playing a critical role in understanding speech patterns and language acquisition. Influenced by factors such as tongue position, lip rounding, and phonetic context, vowel variation remains underexplored in the context of second language learning. To analyze The objective of this research was to illustrate that the inclusion of homophone game could improve the pronunciation skills of seventh grade students at SMPN 16 PALU. the researcher employed a quasi-experimental approach, assigning 31 students to the experimental group and 34 students to the control group. The sample was selected by using cluster random sampling technique. Data collection involved pre-test and post-test, an analyzed was conducted using paired sample t-tests with the assistance of SPSS version 27 windows. The findings indicate that employing the homophone game strategy effectively improved the pronunciation ability of the seventh-grade students at SMPN 16 PALU. this was evidenced by the paired sample t-test analysis, revealing a significance level (2-tailed) of 0.001 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference in students’ learning outcomes between the pretest and posttest phases. This discovery suggests that to improve pronunciation instruction, educators should integrate homophone games into their teaching approaches. Keywords: Improve, Pronunciation, Homophone Game

Abstract

The objective of the study was to determine the efficacy of the POSSE (Predict, Organize, Search, Summarize, and Evaluate) Strategy in enhancing students' reading comprehension. This study was carried out at the SMP Negeri 1 Toribulu. The research population comprised 66 eighth-grade students. The research used quantitative research, particularly in Quasi-Experimental Design. To get the sample, the researcher employed cluster random sampling. The data was collected using exam items, which included 10 multiple-choice and 5 essay questions. There were pretest and posttest in both groups, and the experimental group received treatment while the control group did not. The results showed the students' mean score of the experimental group (55.64) on the posttest was higher than the score from the control group (31.24) on the posttest. The sig value is calculated using statistical results. With a 2 tailed of 0.000<0.05, it can be determined that there is a significant difference in the mean score of pupils' learning outcomes between the POSSE-based learning model and the usual method taught by the teacher.

Abstract

Scaffolding is a teaching method in which teachers provide structured, temporary support to help students develop independent learning skills gradually. In the context of English as a Foreign Language (EFL), scaffolding is particularly useful in vocabulary acquisition, especially for young learners who are still building basic language skills. This study aims to find out the effectiveness of the scaffolding method in increasing students’ vocabulary size at MTs Muhammadiyah Al-Haq Palu. Students in grade VIII participated in this research. Two classes were identified as the control and experimental classes in this quasi-experimental research design. The researcher used a pretest and a posttest to collect data. Subsequently, SPSS version 23 was used to analyze the collected data. The result shows that the posttest mean score for students in the experimental class (78.22) was higher than the mean score in the control class (59.56). Furthermore, based on the result of the independence sample t-test, the sig (2 tailed) value (0.001) was lower than 0.05. It indicated that the alternative hypothesis was accepted. Therefore, the scaffolding method can increase the vocabulary size of grade VIII students at MTs Muhammadiyah Al-Haq Palu.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of choral and repeated reading strategies in improving the reading comprehension of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 20 Sigi. Using a quasi-experimental design, 46 students were selected through cluster random sampling and divided into experimental and control groups. Data were collected through multiple-choice and essay tests administered before and after the intervention. The experimental group’s mean pretest score was 45.96, increasing to 81.35 post-test, while the control group’s mean rose from 50.30 to 76.04. Statistical analysis showed significant improvement, supported by a two-tailed significance value of 0.000 and a correlation coefficient of 0.696. These findings confirm that choral and repeated reading strategies positively impact students' reading comprehension.

Abstract

This study set out to find out if grade 8 students at SMP Negeri 19 Palu could talk more fluently after using the Talking Stick Technique. This is a quantitative research study that evaluates the growth of students' speaking abilities using a quasi-experimental design with a pre-and post-test. The Talking Stick Technique significantly improved the students' speaking abilities, according to the results. The gathered data was statistically analyzed to identify any noteworthy variations between the experimental and control groups. According to the results, the experimental group's mean post-test score (60.26) was greater than that of the control group (47.70). Furthermore, the analysis of hypotheses showed that the T-test > Table (2.262 > 1.676). This demonstrates that the study's hypothesis was verified. In conclusion, eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 19 Palu can improve their ability to speak by using the Talking Stick technique.
