Abstract

Abstract :This research is to develop writing teaching material using Lesson study in learning procedure text. The method of this research Research and Development and the steps was adapted in form of Lesson Study. The Lesson Study consists of three steps; they are Plan, Do, and See. It includes some cycles to get the experience in improving the teaching learning process that should be better than before. Some teachers near the area have done this study to help the Seventh Grade Students in writing a procedure text at SMPN 3 Sungai Kakap. The aim was to produce the teaching materials which can improve the teaching learning process, especially in writing a procedure text. The improvement was concluded by analyzing the data from a writing test, observation sheet, field notes and questionnaires. This study was done in SMPN 3 Sungai Kakap from April to June 2015. The results showed there was a significant improvement of the students? ability in writing a procedure text by using the materials that had been developed in Lesson Study. Based on the experience in conducting this research, some recommendations were given to some schools and English teachers in Kabupaten Kubu Raya to produce the writing teaching materials using Lesson Study.       Key words: lesson study, development research, producing teaching                         material.

Abstract

Abstract This research investigated Teaching Writing Procedure Text through Demonstration Technique and finding the effect size of the treatment through Demonstration to the tenth grade students of SMA IBM Pontianak. The form of this research was a pre-experimental study with one group pre-test and post-test design. The population was the tenth grade students of SMA IBM Pontianak, while the sample was class X which consists of 20 students. The technique used in data collection was measurement technique and the tool for the data collection was a test in form of written test. The research finding showed that the mean score of pre-test was 34.70 while the mean score of post-test was 62.5. The result of t-test was 27.8. It was higher than t-critical at a0,05 (7.35>1.729). As a result, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. The calculation of the effect size of the treatments was 1.61 which was categorized as high since 0.2  ES (1.61>0.8).It can be concluded that there was a moderate significant effect from Teaching Writing Procedure Text through Demonstration Technique to the tenth grade students of SMA IBM Pontianak. Keywords: Teaching Writing, Procedure Text, Demonstration Technique.

Abstract

Abstract This research is aimed to improve students? reading comprehension in descriptive text by using Jigsaw technique. In conducting this research, the researcher implemented classroom action research as a method. The researcher collected the data by using observations checklist and students? assessments in each cycle. This research was conducted in two cycles. The subject of this research was 20 students at the eighth grade of SMP Mujahidin Pontianak in academic year 2017/2018. Based on the data collected, it is found that Jigsaw can improve students? activeness and participations to in teaching-learning processes from cycle to cycle. Besides, the process improvement impacted to students? mean score. The students mean score was 60.75 and in second cycle was 71.75. Since the process of learning in the second cycle showed a significant improvement, the teacher and the researcher not to conduct the next cycle. In conclusion, Jigsaw technique can improve students? reading comprehension on descriptive text.Keywords: Improve, Students, Reading, Jigsaw, Descriptive Text.

Abstract

 AbstractThe purpose of this research is to improve the students’ participation in learning English speaking through the use of Jigsaw technique. The method used is Classroom Action Research which consisted of  2 cycles. To collect the data, the writer used observation checklist, field notes and the table of participation grade to reflect the students’ improvement in participation of each cycle. The subject of this research was the tenth grade students of SMAN 5 Pontianak. The writer provided the students’ mean score from the table of participation grade and the result of observation checklist, and field notes at the end of lesson. From the result of the observation checklist and field notes, it was found that in the first cycle most of students showed less participation, on the other hand  in the second cycle most of students showed a good participation in learning English speaking through the use of Jigsaw technique. It can also be concluded from the result of the table of participation grade, it was found that in the first cycle, the mean score was 53 points which was classified into poor to average. And in the second cycle, the mean score was 74 which was classified into average to good. In conclusion, the students’ participation of the tenth grade students of SMAN 5 Pontianak has improved through the use of Jigsaw technique. Key words: Jigsaw, Speaking, Participation

Abstract

AbstractThe purpose of this research is to find out the effectiveness of teaching writing narrative text using EGRA technique. To achieve the objectives of the research, a pre experimental study was conducted. This research was conducted at SMA St. Fransiskus Asisi Pontianak with the sample of the research was the eleventh grade of science students in academic year 2017/2018 which was chosen by using cluster random sampling technique. The findings of the research obviously showed that there was a significant difference of the students’ achievement before and after EGRA technique was applied, and that the use of the technique had a highly significant effect on the students’ writing shown by the students’ improved scores. To sum up, the present research findings proved that the use of EGRA technique is highly effective in teaching writing to the eleventh grade of science students of SMA St. Fransiskus Asisi Pontianak in academic year 2017/2018. Keywords: EGRA Technique, Teaching Writing, Writing Narrative Text.

Abstract

AbstractGraphic organizer strategy is a strategy commonly used in reading class to improve students’ understanding toward texts. This strategy has been deemed as effective across level of students and schools. Yet previous studies on graphic organizer has exclusively brought this strategy in to the classroom on the basis of individual work. Little is known how teachers may as well experience success if they combine the strategy with a collaborative learning model. Addressing this gap this study examined the effects of graphic organizer strategy when it is combined with a collaborative learning model called jigsaw activity on behavior and student’s understanding on text. The participant of this study were thirty tenth-grade students of Audio-Video Technique Class in SMKN 2 Pontianak in academic year 2017/2018. From the data which was collected both qualitatively and quantitatively it can be concluded that there were improvement on  students’ behavior indicated by they were being active and collaborative  during the implementation of the strategy in the classroom. The result of reading test  also suggested that the students’ achievement on reading comprehension improved after they made use graphic organizer as concept map activities during reading. Keywords : Graphic Organizer, Jigsaw Activity, Reading Comprehension, Student’s Behavior

Abstract

Abstract             This research aimed to improve students’ ability in writing recount text using guided wh-questions to class VIII C students of SMP Negeri 6 Teluk Keramat in Academic Year 2018/2019. This research was conducted based on the problems found in the classroom. First, students had difficulty in writing recount text because they did not know about the generic structures. Second, students also had difficulties in using simple past tense. The research was conduted using Classroom Action Research in three cycles. The subject of this research was 26 students in class VIII C. The researcher used observational checklists, field notes, and scoring rubric as tools to collect the data. The result showed that the use of guided wh-questions can generate the students’ ideas and develop the ideas in writing. Guided wh-questions was improved students’ achievement in writing recount text concerning the generic structure, language features, and writing mechanics.            Keyword: Improve, Writing Recount Text, Guided WH-Questions.

Abstract

Abstract This present study was administered to develop supplementary reading comprehension materials for the tenth grade students of Automotive Mechanical skills Program. The writer applied Research and Development study (R&D). The participants of the research were tenth grade students of Automotive Mechanical Skills Program of SMK Negeri 2 Pontianak in academic year 2015/2016 and also the English teacher who taught the class. The data of the present study were collected by interview, questionnaire, observation table checklist and validation table checklist. This study found that the problem in the existing reading material was irrelevancy of the materials with the program of the students. Furthermore, about 74,1% students stated that they need reading materials related to their program. Therefore reading comprehension materials needed to be developed. From the finding, there were eight requirements needed to be met. They were suited to syllabus, related to the automotive mechanical skills program, contained  vocabularies related to program, contained interesting materials, contained enjoyable activities, could be coped by the teacher and students, related to the students’ prior knowledge and must be contextual. As the result, the reading materials developed by the writer had met all the requirements. Abstract

Abstract This research concentrates on specific relevant questions, those are how blog helps as learning tool for writing activity and the difficulties of using blog as learning tool for writing activity. Based on the research problem, the design of this research is case study. The subject of this research is one student (Miss X) who has some criteria of having the experiences in using blog, being at least a second semester student(if the student does not have any experience about blog), and having their own blog. The data were collected through interview and observation. From the findings, the researcher finds out that blog helped Miss X learning tool for writing activity by providing a journal or as a media for writing, providing motivational feedback and creating critical thinking environment. The research findings also show that there are some difficulties which faced by Miss X including some difficulties in managing time, lack of Writing skill, programming skill, Multimedia devices, readers and low internet connection.                                                                               Key Words: Analysis, Student?s Experience, Using Blog as Learning Tool, Writing Activity.

Abstract

 AbstractThe purpose of this research was to know the effectiveness of using Visual Narrative in increase the students’ vocabulary achievement to the eight grade student of MTsN 1 Pontianak in academic year 2014/2015. The problem of this research was design to investigate the effectiveness of the use Visual Narrative towards students’ vocabulary achievement. This research applied pre-experimental method. The research used one group of pre-test and post-test designed. The sample was 40 students of eight grade students of MTs Negeri 1 Pontianak. The technique to collect the data was measurement technique. The form of test was multiple choice and matching words, consist of 30 items of verbs and nouns about the story in the comic. The result of the research shows a good result that shown by the mean score of the students that increased from 63.32 (average to good) to 80.57 (good to excellent). Further, the result of t-test calculation is 10.29 which is bigger than t-table. Finally, based on the computation of the t-test and effect size, the Alternative Hypothesis is accepted and the Null Hypothesis is rejected. In conclusion, the use of Visual Narrative is effective to increase students’ vocabulary to the eighth grade students of MTs Negeri 1 Pontianak in Academic Year 2014/2015. Key words : Vocabulary, Visual Narrative, Comic
