Abstract

This research explores the transformative journey of Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia, the oldest Islamic educational institutions, emphasizing their crucial role in intellectual, spiritual, and character development. The study underscores the need for a comprehensive transformation of Kyai (Islamic leaders) to modernize educational institutions while preserving traditional Islamic teachings. The research classifies Islamic boarding schools into three types: traditional, modern, and a combination. Each type follows a distinct organizational development model. Traditional schools focus on defending heritage values, intervening when necessary, taking natural actions, and incorporating uncontroversial changes. Modern schools adopt a process involving diagnosis, revitalization, envisioning, identification, and stabilization. Combined model schools integrate heritage preservation, diagnosis, intervention, balance, and stabilization. The methodology employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, utilizing interviews and triangulation for data validation. The findings highlight the leadership roles specific to each type. Traditional schools maintain a natural progression rooted in tradition, while modern schools and combined model schools follow distinct stages in organizational development to adapt to changing educational landscapes. This research contributes valuable insights to the ongoing dialogue on harmonizing traditional Islamic values with modern educational needs in the context of Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia

Abstract

This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) aimed at increasing enthusiasm for learning and revealing the effectiveness of the Team Games Tournament (TGT) method in enhancing students' mastery of Arabic vocabulary. The subjects were 29 students of class VII at SMP IT Al-Munadi. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and documentation. The research was conducted in two cycles, following the stages of (1) planning, (2) implementing, (3) observing, and (4) reflecting. Children naturally enjoy listening and playing, making play an important part of the teaching and learning process for young students. Vocabulary mastery among students before using the TGT method was categorized as excellent (78-88), good (67-77), and less good (below 67). After using the TGT method, vocabulary mastery improved, with criteria of excellent (90-100), good (78-88), and poor (50-60). The results indicate that students at SMP IT Al-Munadi enjoy learning Arabic through play and can more easily remember the vocabulary taught. Some students were able to memorize vocabulary after multiple repetitions by the teacher. In conclusion, playing techniques can effectively enhance students' mastery of Arabic vocabulary, particularly at SMP IT Al-Munadi.

Abstract

Self-awareness helps students understand their own strengths, weaknesses, interests, and learning styles. With better self-understanding, students can use management information systems and action cards more effectively according to their learning needs. This research aims to explore the role of self-awareness as a mediator of influence between management information systems, action card systems, and learning reinforcement. The survey method was used to collect data based on purposive sampling from 64 MA Darul Huda Ponorogo students. Data collection was carried out using a questionnaire consisting of a Likert scale with 4 alternative answers. PLS-SEM analysis was used to analyze data and test the conceptual model. The results of the analysis show that the management information system has no significant effect on self-awareness and learning reinforcement. In addition, self-confidence was proven not to mediate the effect of management information systems on strengthening learning. These findings highlight the importance of self-awareness in facilitating the development of reinforced learning through management information systems and participation in action card systems. The practical implication of this research is the need for the role of classmates in strengthening learning, which does not only focus on aspects of teacher support, but also on aspects of self-reflection. Research supports efforts to design professional development programs that strengthen student self-awareness and integrate management information systems and action card systems as effective strategies for enhancing learning reinforcement.

Abstract

Understanding cultural barriers is crucial in the context of increasing global collaboration in education. This research addresses a gap in the literature by focusing on the cultural barriers hindering the Indonesian pre-service English teacher’s learning process and the strategies to deal with it in a cross-cultural context which is in Thailand primary school. Through qualitative research, involving semi-structured interviews that allowed participants to share their unique challenges and perspectives, three types of cultural barriers are identified; 1) Communication barriers due to language differences, English knowledge and skills of the Thai students; 2) Knowledge about the education of the host country which involves unfamiliarity with the Thai curriculum and Thai primary school learning routines; 3) The integration of technology as there is no facilitate to integrate technology and students’ misbehaviour. Thus, nine types of strategies to overcome these cultural barriers employed include harnessing various tools, asking for help from local people, utilizing verbal and non-verbal language, employing instructional strategy, applying a social approach, planning lessons and units, grouping students for instruction, using verbal intervention, and resorting to logical consequence. These findings emphasize the importance of training for future educators to thrive in cross-cultural contexts, highlighting the need for further research in policy and program development for pre-abroad training of aspiring teachers.
