Abstract

Introduction: The growing demand for continuous professional development (CPD) within the healthcare sector has emphasized the importance of tailored training for various professional roles, including those of occupational health nurses. In Indonesia, there remains a need to better understand the specific job functions and development needs of nurses working in occupational health settings to ensure effective practice and optimal patient outcomes. Objective: This study was conducted to map out the roles performed by occupational health nurses in Indonesia and to identify key areas where additional training is most needed. Method: A descriptive cross-sectional approach was employed, involving 43 occupational health nurses selected via simple random sampling. Data were gathered using the validated Indonesian adaptation of the Hennessy-Hicks Training Needs Analysis Questionnaire, which evaluates competencies across five domains: research and audit, communication and teamwork, clinical practice, administrative tasks, and leadership or supervisory roles. To determine areas of significant training need, independent t-tests were performed for each questionnaire item. Results: The analysis revealed considerable training requirements in 38 of the assessed items. The domain most urgently requiring development was research and audit, which had the highest mean score (2.07). This was followed by clinical functions and management (both 1.65), mental health and resilience-related skills (1.32), collaboration and communication (1.22), and administrative functions (0.58). Conclusion: The findings point to a clear need for competency-based training initiatives, with particular emphasis on strengthening research and audit capabilities among occupational health nurses. Healthcare institutions in Indonesia are advised to implement structured educational programs alongside continuous evaluation systems to foster professional advancement and maintain high standards of care.

Abstract

Introduction: The development of smart detection software may help reduce the number of decubitus ulcer infections by enabling early identification and management. Ensuring the usability and effectiveness of such technology is essential before widespread adoption. Objective: This study aimed to explore prospective users’ perceptions of the mobile app for detecting diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) infection, focusing on its usefulness, ease of use, and overall user satisfaction. Methods: The usability of the DFU app was assessed by experienced users. The evaluation included perceived usefulness, ease of use, and overall satisfaction. Standardized tools such as the System Usability Scale (SUS) and a specific app rating scale were used to collect user feedback. Results: The DFU app received usability ratings ranging from 0.50 to 0.88. The lowest rating was for performance quality (Mean = 0.50, SD = 0.12), while the highest was for integrity (Mean = 0.88, SD = 0.07). The overall usability score, as measured by SUS, was considered acceptable (Mean = 78.4, SD = 6.83). Most users reported no significant issues with using the app, except for difficulty understanding the language used in the interface, which was rated as a serious usability issue with a severity score of 3. Conclusions: Users perceived the DFU app as useful and efficient, particularly in detecting the risk of infection. Despite a noted language comprehension issue, the app demonstrated good overall usability and has the potential to support early intervention for decubitus ulcer prevention.

Abstract

Background: Deinstitutionalization is a critical component of mental health reform in Indonesia, where individuals with schizophrenia continue to be confined in long-term psychiatric facilities and subjected to practices such as pasung (physical restraint). Despite national policies promoting community-based care, the implementation of rehabilitative interventions remains fragmented. Objective: This scoping review aimed to map the landscape of rehabilitative interventions that support the deinstitutionalization of adults diagnosed with schizophrenia in Indonesia and to explore their implications for reforming institutional mental health care. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted across PubMed, ScienceDirect, Springer, and Google Scholar for studies published between 2002 and 2024. Eligible studies included randomized controlled trials, quasi-experimental studies, longitudinal evaluations, and qualitative reports focusing on adults (≥18 years) with schizophrenia transitioning from long-term institutional settings. The search strategy followed the PRISMA 2020 and PCC (Population–Concept–Context) frameworks. Data were extracted and thematically synthesized to identify intervention types, implementation contexts, and outcome trends. Results: Fifteen studies were included. Three main intervention types emerged: community-based rehabilitation (CBR), pasung release and reintegration programs, and family-centered psychoeducation. CBR interventions demonstrated significant improvements in quality of life, social functioning, and symptom management. Pasung release programs were effective when paired with sustained psychosocial support. Family-based interventions, including task-shifting models, facilitated recovery and reduced relapse. Key enablers included strong familial involvement and decentralized health worker engagement, while barriers included persistent stigma, weak infrastructure, and policy enforcement gaps. Conclusions: Rehabilitative interventions grounded in community participation and family support show promise in advancing deinstitutionalization in Indonesia. Integration of these models into primary care, supported by policy implementation and resource allocation, is essential for sustainable reform. Future research should focus on randomized trials, cost-effectiveness analysis, and multi-provincial implementation studies to inform national mental health strategies.

Abstract

Introduction : Health education about pregnancy care is important to increase the knowledge of pregnant women so that it will encourage positive attitudes and behavior towards the health of the mother and fetus. Audiovisual media and leaflets are often used to convey health information. Objective : This research aims to determine the differences in the effectiveness of the two media in increasing knowledge, attitudes and practices of pregnancy services for pregnant women at the Tambakromo Community Health Center. Method : This research uses an experimental design with a two group pretest posttest design. The research sample was 76 pregnant women at the Tambakromo Community Health Center who were divided into two groups randomly. The first group was given health education using audiovisual media, and the second group was given leaflet media. Data were analyzed using the Independent Sample T-test and Mann Whitney with p0.05. Result : Respondents' knowledge, attitudes and pregnancy care practices increased after being given health education. Audiovisual media is more effective than leaflet media in increasing knowledge (p-value = 0.004), practice (p-value = 0.007), and attitudes (p-value = 0.010) of pregnant women regarding pregnancy care. Conclusion : Increased knowledge, attitudes and practices show that both media are effective in increasing pregnant women's awareness about the importance of pregnancy checks. However, audiovisual media has proven to be more effective because it is multisensory, making it more interesting and easier to understand. Health education using audiovisual media is more effective than leaflet media in increasing knowledge, attitudes and practices of pregnancy care among pregnant women at the Tambakromo Community Health Center.

Abstract

Introduction: Self-regulated learning is the ability of individuals to actively regulate thought, feeling, and behavior during the learning process to achieve academic goals. Self-regulated learning is important to support the academic success of nursing students, but there is a lot of literature showing that nursing students are faced with various problems in learning such as tight assignment deadlines, time management, too many assignments, and difficulties in understanding the material caused by not being able to control and regulate themselves during the learning process. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between self-regulated learning and the demographic characteristics of nursing students. Methods: This study was a descriptive quantitative with cross sectional approach. The sample in this study is 276 respondents using a proportionate stratified random sampling technique. Self-Regulated Online Learning Questionnaire (SOL-Q) is used to measure the level of self-regulated learning. Results: The result of this study showed that there is a relationship between self-regulated learning and college years (p 0.05). Conclusion: Final year students who have low self-regulated learning can be caused by a lack of ability to manage time and motivation, while first-year students have high enthusiasm and motivation to succeed in academic fields. Students need to pay attention and have supporting factors in order to have good self-regulated learning The faculty is expected to be able to provide programs that help students develop self-regulated learning skills.

Abstract

Introduction: Fractures are disruptions in the continuity of bone structure that may involve nerve injury, leading to postoperative pain and discomfort. Postoperative pain is a common and inevitable condition that requires effective management to prevent complications and enhance patient comfort. In addition to pharmacological therapy, non-pharmacological interventions such as aromatherapy are increasingly used as complementary approaches in pain management. Lemon aromatherapy is believed to have analgesic and relaxing properties that can help reduce pain perception after surgery. Objective: This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of lemon aromatherapy inhalation in reducing pain intensity among patients following lower extremity fracture surgery. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a two-group pretest–posttest design was conducted at a hospital. A total of 20 postoperative patients with lower extremity fractures were recruited using a total sampling technique. The intervention involved inhalation of lemon aromatherapy by applying 5–6 drops of lemon essential oil onto a tissue placed on the patient’s chest for 30 minutes, accompanied by deep breathing exercises. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Data analysis included tests of normality and homogeneity, paired sample t-tests, independent sample t-tests, and n-gain analysis. Results: The results showed a significant reduction in pain intensity after the intervention (p = 0.000). The mean pain score decreased from 7.9 (severe pain) before the intervention to 4.6 (mild pain) after the intervention, indicating a clinically meaningful improvement. Conclusion: Lemon aromatherapy inhalation is effective in reducing postoperative pain intensity among patients after lower extremity fracture surgery and may be considered a complementary nursing intervention for postoperative pain management.

Abstract

Stunting, a common child malnutrition form, hampers growth due to poor nutrition, infections, and limited psychosocial stimulation. Primarily affecting those under five, especially in the first 1,000 days, it becomes nearly irreversible later. Linked to impaired brain development, childhood morbidity, and mortality, it heightens the risk of chronic diseases in adulthood, impacting cognitive function and productivity. This research aims to analyze factors related to the motivation of Posyandu cadres in tackling stunting in the Belu Regency, RI-RDTL border. The method used in this research is mixed methods. The mixed method research strategy applied is the Concurrent Embedded method. The quantitative method used is a descriptive approach while the qualitative method uses a case study. The study was conducted at Haliwen Health Center and South Atambua Health Center, with a quantitative research sample of 150 people and 10 qualitative research informants. The research findings indicate that the dominant cadre motivation factors include Social Needs at 99.3%. Based on Maslow's Basic Human Needs motivation factors, when viewed from the results of quantitative and qualitative data analysis, the motivation of cadres in handling stunting is social needs. Meanwhile, in qualitative research, a main theme was found, namely Humanitarian Harmony, which was divided into 3 categories, namely Volunteering, Dedication, and Caring. Volunteering, Dedication, and Caring are included in social needs. Humans in general need to interact and contribute to society. Dedication, caring, and volunteering are ways to fulfill this social need by providing support or assistance to others without expecting immediate reward.
