Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of the TikTok application as a media to develop students' English-speaking skills. This study employs a descriptive qualitative methodology to examine the utilization of TikTok by high school students in Medan for English language practice. The study aims to understand the benefits gained and the challenges encountered by these students. Four students were observed and interviewed over the 2023/2024 academic year to collect data. These results indicated that students use TikTok to create and share videos, enhancing their speaking skills through stages such as pre-recording activities, during-recording activities, and post-recording activities. TikTok provides various advantages, such as increased self-confidence, improved vocabulary, better pronunciation and grammar mastery, and access to relevant references and ideas. However, students also face challenges like difficulties with grammar, pronunciation, selecting appropriate vocabulary, device problems, and unfamiliarity with TikTok features. This study asserts that TikTok provides notable benefits for English-speaking practice; addressing these challenges can further enhance its effectiveness as a learning tool.

Abstract

This research aimed to prove the role of group counselling using the Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) approach in increasing students' self-confidence. It discussed literature regarding the effectiveness of group counselling with the REBT approach in enhancing students' self-confidence. The research method used was a qualitative approach with a systematic literature review method. A systematic literature review was a research process that identified, evaluated, and interpreted relevant research related to research questions, certain topics, or phenomena that were being studied. The results of this research showed that the effectiveness of group counselling using the REBT approach in increasing students' self-confidence was significant. By employing various evaluation methods such as self-confidence scales, behavioural observations, student interviews, measuring stress and anxiety levels, and monitoring academic achievement, this research succeeded in measuring significant changes in students' self-confidence. The effectiveness of REBT was evident in changes in students' thinking patterns and behaviour, leading to increased learning confidence. Key success factors, such as changes in group member behaviour, increased student self-understanding, and support among group members, made important contributions to achieving the goals of group counselling.

Abstract

This study utilized qualitative research with a case study design to investigate the difficulties encountered by EFL students in reading comprehension. Nine students from Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 1 (State Islamic Senior High School) Muara Enim in South Sumatra who met the research sampling criteria were selected using the purposeful sampling technique. Data were collected through interviews, and the results were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings revealed that the majority of students experienced obstacles in reading comprehension, including a lack of vocabulary, a limited grasp of grammar, unfamiliarity with the topic content, an inability to employ reading strategies effectively, and unappealing reading materials. This exploration of specific obstacles that EFL students encounter in reading comprehension could serve as the foundation for the development of targeted strategies and interventions aimed at supporting the students in improving their reading skills.

Abstract

This study was a descriptive qualitative study investigating the perceptions of EFL lecturers and students regarding the use of social media in EFL teaching and learning. It involved five lecturers and 67 EFL students of a state-owned university in South Sumatra as its research respondents. Two Likert-scale surveys were used to collect data and the data were analyzed using google form. Research findings showed that social media use in EFL teaching and learning was perceived favourably by both lecturers and students. They agreed that using social media to teach and learn English could help students become more proficient communicators, both in written and spoken forms. Their opinions regarding the usage of social media in EFL instruction may have been influenced by a number of factors, including the digital literacy of the lecturers and their background as educators who saw social media as an integral part of their pedagogy Students' familiarity with social media platforms may have also played a role in shaping their perceptions. They typically have good thoughts on social media use in EFL classes since they used them regularly in their daily lives and are aware of their benefits.

Abstract

In Indonesia, only 0.18% of the total population, around 225 million, choose to become entrepreneurs, while in Singapore, the percentage is 4%. Unemployment in Indonesia remains an unresolved problem. This problem proves the importance of teaching children about entrepreneurship from an early age. One effective strategy is through organizing market day activities at Faza Islamic School of Early Childhood Education in Palembang. The participants were 30 students in even semester of Faza Islamic School Palembang in Early Childhood Education. The purpose of this research was to find out the process of instilling entrepreneurial values in children through market day activities. The method employed in this study was qualitative, using an interactive engineering model. The technique for collecting data in this research were using observation, interviews and documentation techniques. The data analysis technique in this research used the Miles and Huberman model,  a qualitative data analysis path, namely, collecting data related to research, reducing data that is deemed appropriate, presenting data related to research themes and topics and drawing data conclusions. The results of this research showed that market day activities could increase entrepreneurial values, including independence, creative risk taking, leadership and action orientation. In conclusion, market day activities were able to foster attitudes and improve children's entrepreneurial values in Faza Islamic School, Palembang City.

Abstract

This paper presents a comparative study of student assessment approaches in higher education institutions in Russia and Indonesia. The purpose of the study is to explore the methods, criteria, and frameworks used to evaluate student performance in both countries. The research methods used in this article include a descriptive qualitative approach and library research. The study employed a combination of document analysis and thematic coding to analyze the data, focusing on how educational policies, cultural contexts, and institutional practices shape assessment approaches. In Russia, the centralized governance system and long-standing academic traditions significantly influence assessment methods, while Indonesia’s decentralized educational structure and diverse cultural heritage lead to varied and flexible evaluation practices. The findings highlight both the strengths and weaknesses of each country’s assessment systems, emphasizing areas such as standardization, student engagement, and fairness in evaluations. The study concludes that while the two countries have distinct approaches, there are valuable insights each can gain from the other’s experiences. This research contributes to the global dialogue on improving student assessment practices by demonstrating how cultural and contextual factors must be considered to develop more effective and equitable evaluation systems.

Abstract

Education is a conscious and planned effort to create a conducive learning atmosphere and a structured learning process so that students actively develop their potential. This study aimed to determine whether there was an effect of QR-CODE-based e-job-sheet on the learning outcomes of electrical lighting installation practices for class XI TITL students in the electrical lighting installation subject at SMK Negeri 1 Driyorejo. This study used a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design, specifically using a one group pretest-posttest format. The population for this study comprised Class XI TITL students engaged in electrical lighting installation, with a sample size of 35 students drawn from this population. The sample used was a saturated sample, a sampling technique that included all members of the population as participants. The instruments for data collection were in the forms of a job-sheet and an observation sheet for students' psychomotor assessment which were first validated by 3 validators consisting of an electrical engineering lecturer and two TITL teachers. The results of this study found that the significance value (Sig.) amounting to 0.000 this means that the value (Sig.) is greater than 0.05 this means. H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. While when viewed from the t test value it is known that the t-count value = 4.359 and the t-table value = 2.034 this means. H0 is rejected H1 is accepted. Thus, it could be concluded that there was a significant effect of using e-job-sheet on the psychomotor learning outcomes of students in class XI TITL in the subject of electrical lighting installation.
