Abstract

This study aimed to obtain the type of firewood as a natural preservative and the best smoking method to produce high-quality smoke Cakalang with longer durability. This study uses an experimental method designed in a completely randomized design (CRD) factorial pattern of 3x2, with two factors namely the type of firewood and the smoking method. The main variables collected in this study are, pH, water content, protein content, fat content, ash content and calcium of smoke Cakalang. The monitoring period is carried out on days 0, 3, 6 and 9 days of storage. The results showed that, in general, smoke Cakalang products were initiated by using firewood and the smoking method gave the best effect on pH, water content, protein content, fat content, ash content and carbohydrate content. The use of firewood from kusambi wood and coconut shell can increase the durability of fish for up to 9 days of storage. Kusambi wood and coconut shell have good potential for firewood because they can increase the levels of protein, carbohydrate, fat content, and decrease of pH, water content and ash content of smoke Cakalang. The smoking method using a closed smoking cabinet produces betterquality of smoke cakalang compared to an open cabinet. Keywords: Firewood type, smoking method, durability, proximate content of smoke Cakalang

Abstract

This study aims to determine the digestibility quality of dry matter and organic matter of complete fermented feed. This study used a completely randomized design with complete feed fermentation duration of 0 weeks, 3 weeks, 6 weeks and 9 weeks. The variables observed were the digestibility quality of dry matter and organic matter in vitro. The results showed that the dry matter digestibility of complete fermented feed at 0 weeks (48.508%) and 6 weeks (48.17%) was not significantly different (P> 0.05). Meanwhile, the complete dry matter digestibility of the fermentation time of 3 weeks (51.474%) and 9 weeks (44.558%) showed significant differences (P <0.05). Digestibility of complete feed organic matter with fermentation time of 0 weeks and 3 weeks did not show any difference but was significantly different from complete feed with 6 weeks and 9 weeks of storage. The conclusion of this study is the digestibility value of organic matter is higher than the value of dry matter digestibility because the digestibility of dry matter still contains ash and the digestibility of organic matter does not contain ash.            Keyword : Complete Feed, Long Fermentation, In Vitro Digestibility

Abstract

This study aims to determine th relationship between changes in blood erythrocyte sedimentation rate of liver abnormalities in local goats. Abnormal liver classified in bleeding (hemorrhagic), thickening of the bile ducts (cholestatic), the formation of connective tissue (fibrosis) and swelling (hepatomegaly). Abnormal scoring from 0 (normal) to 5 (liver damage above 75%). Erythrocyte sedimentation rate blood test done at the Laboratory of Clinical Pathology, Veterinary Faculty, University of Udayana. These results illustrate the influence of liver abnormalities of ESR values were analyzed with Spearman correlation coefficients according to Stell and Torrie (1991). Results showed 97% of local goats have the ESR value from 3 to 10 mm/24 hours with the type of liver damage such as bleeding 63%; swelling 44%; the formation of connective tissue 93% and 14% thickening of the bile duct. The results show that the value of the ESR is influenced by the presence of connective tissue formation (fibrosis), bleeding (hemorrhagic), and swelling (hepatomegaly) (P <0.05). It concluded that liver abnormalities in local goats, such as connective tissue formation (fibrosis), bleeding (hemorrhagic), and swelling (hepatomegaly) is correlated with the ESR so that the ESRs can be used as an indicator of liver abnormalities. Keywords : ESR, Hemorrhagic, Cholestatic, Fibrosis, Hepatomegaly

Abstract

Utiliztion of dryland and bareground in urban area is an opportunity as well challenge. One of the importat factors for land uses decician is evaluation of land capability and suitability. In agriculture, one of the causing of land degradation is unsuitable land uses. Therefore, PT. Angkasa Pura El Tari Int. Airport Kupang colaburated with academitients to conduct land evaluation at one of unmanaged land in urban area. This survey was conducted on the land of 10,078 Ha at Lasiana, Kupang city, East NusaTenggara Timur. The methods comprised of stated of aims, planning (overlay maps from ArcGIS 10,3), ground survey, data analysis (erosion prediction by USLE (Universal Soil Loss Equation) method, data compilation and presentation. The results provided two land units that considered in class III of land capability with limiting factors (soil depth, erosion level, soil fertility, drainase, and stony). Therefore there are some recommendations for land management, such as increasing soil depth by adding some soils, growing annual crops, forest trees, nursery, grassing combination with countering and terrasering on the land with high slope, tillage system, and organic matter amandement. Due to the location is in the urban areas (Kupang city), it is suggested to apply urban forest or urban farming development using multifunctional land uses approach, functioning for agriculture, natural conservation, social activities, education and agrotourism.

Abstract

Study on Population and Habitat of Endemik and Restricted Range Birds in Camplong Natural Recreation Park. This research took place in Camplong Natural Recreation Park from March to October 2007, in order to estimate the population density and size of those birds, and to study their habitat, comprising their habitat composition and vegetation structure, stratification and altitude. The primary data were obtained by direct observation and interview. Data population was obtained by using Variable Circular Plot method ((Buckland et al., 1993; Kartono, 2000). Identification of birds and vegetation used literature study. The results showed that there were 45 species of birds recorded in the Park. Among them, 6 birds were Timor’s endemik, 18 were Nusa Tenggara endemik, and 24 were restricted range species. During one year, 9 restricted range birds were missing. The highest population density of the Bird was Meliphaga reticulata (27,500/km2, ranges from 28.979 to 26.021/km2), and followed by Gerygone innornata (25.000/km2, ranges from 24.572 to 25.428/km2). On the other hand, the lowest density of the bird was Heleia muelleri, one of the six endemik birds of Timor (0.833 /km2, ranges from 0.729 to 0.938 /km2. Vegetation in Camplong Natural Recreation Park recorded in various life stages showed that there were 63 trees, 27 poles, 28 saplings and 22 seedlings. Overall, there were 90 species of trees recorded in all strata. The highest Important Index Value (INP) of tree is taduk (30.6686 %), and generally tree species with the highest INP comprises A to B strata with canopy may reach 30 – 40 m in height. escortcity.co.nz Pole is dominated by keolnasa (INP 68.8674 %). Sapling is also dominated by keolnasa (INP 75.2536 %), while seedling is dominated by Chromonela odorata, with INP reaching to 91.1337 %. Keywords: birds, Camplong natural recreation park
