Abstract

The dictions used by the Qur'an in visualizing women are often misinterpreted. Many people are still shackled to the classical understanding that women are a second creation. This understanding eventually gave birth to a stigma that women's status was lower and had limitations in pursuing piety. Not only so, the diction of the holy book (Al-Qur'an) which seems to explore the physical form of women in a vulgar way is also interpreted as it is, so that the meaning becomes irrelevant to contemporary reality. Thus, a new method of reading the scriptures is needed. In this context, the researcher will use a Sufi interpretation approach to review the verses of the Qur'an, especially the verses that visualize the physical appearance of women in the afterlife as angels (al-ḥūr). This study has its own relevance even though this issue has been responded to by many feminists. For researcher, the Sufi commentators' views on this issue need to be offered to the public, because from the beginning the Sufi did not differentiate between men and women - just as the spirit is not male and not female. This is of course different from feminists who started the discussion by distinguishing between men and women, so feminists need a movement that demands equality between men and women.

Abstract

This article examines the Naqsabandiyah Mujaddadiyah Khalidiyah Order in Jember during the leadership period of KH. Abdul Wahid Hasyim Nawawi in 1982-2013. The historical approach was used in this study with a descriptive qualitative model which was analyzed through Anthony Giddens' structuration theory regarding the influence of the kyai obtained due to the structure of the surrounding community. The author considers this study important to write because the Naqsabandiyah Mujaddadiyah Khalidiyah (TNMK) Order in Jember has not been well documented by the community. Thus, TNMK is basically seen as exclusive by the community which then raises negative prejudice from the community. The results in this study the role of Kyai Hasyim through: routine studies, strengthening sharia issues, increasing patience, building emotional relationships and living tolerance can have an impact on social change in the Jember community, both in educational institutions and social life. Among the several roles played by Kyai Hasyim in dealing with a multicultural society, it is very possible if the structure concept used in the Naqsabandiyah Mujaddadiyah Khalidiyah Tarekat uses the "contemporary Sufism" model, so that it is easier for people to understand the tarekat and become a new paradigm in the development of the tarekat in the next leadership.

Abstract

Wahdah al-Wujud as one of the important concepts of Islamic studies has different ontological interpretations between philosophers and Islamic theologians and Sufis. These different interpretations result in ontologically significant differences in understanding implications. This study seeks to answer the problem of differences in the interpretation of the concept of wahdah al-wujūd from two major figures who indirectly have the same spirit, namely to harmonize various approaches and scholarship in Islam but have different positions and tendencies in interpreting the concept of wahdah based on each socio-cultural background. This research was conducted using the onto-epistemological analysis method which is part of the branch of philosophy. This research concludes that the ontological status constructed by al-Kurani has implications for theological wahdah al-wujūd which explicitly avoids the equality of creatures with God (tanzih and tasbih), while sadra still sees one entity but in different gradations. In addition, al-Kurani still assumes absolute nothingness, while Sadra assumes relative nothingness as the basis for the creation of a reality other than God. Finally, al-Kurani tends to adopt the theological doctrine of al-Kasb as the basis for the relevance of the interpretation of wahdah al-Wujud, while Sadra adheres to the principle of philosophical non-contradiction

The results of reference collection are then carried out with a precision analysis process. The data analysis technique is carried out by looking at the focus of the study in research to be used as a reference in the literature review process. The results of the literature review based on the results of the study were then used as research conclusions. This includes the various Sufism teachings of Zunnun al-Misri who were influenced by Fatimah al-Naisaburiyyah. Furthermore, the dialectical idea of Sufism Zunnun al-Misri was constructed by his student, namely Sahl Al-Tustari about Nur Muhammad which is a construction from the views of Al Ma'rifah Zunnun Al-Misri which is contextualized in the person of the Prophet SAW.

Abstract

Suhrawardi's thought is always identified as a philosophical concept seen from the thought of illumination (Isyraqiyah). although in his thought rarely found tasawwuf terminology, there are some concepts of tasawwuf that are basically very common among akhlaqi tasawwuf. Therefore, this study aims to examine Suhrawardi's thoughts from the perspective of Sufism. This research is a type of library research using descriptive and analytical methods. The results of this study indicate that there are four concepts of Suhrawardi's Sufism including (1) the concept of ahwal; (2) the concept of maqam; (3) the concept of murshid; (4) his criticism of previous thought. Humans today have a tendency towards rational things. Therefore, it is important to review Suhrawardi's thought because it is still relevant to these conditions. Because in addition to using intuition, Suhrawardi also uses the ratio as a tool to achieve the ultimate truth. Keywords: Suhrawardi, Ahwal, Maqam,

Abstract

Bay‘at ritual is one of the important activities in the tarekat. Bay‘at as the initial process of a prospective student, confirms a steadfast commitment to the doctrines and rituals taught in the tarekat. In practice, each tarekat has a different method and technique. To understand bay‘at ritual practiced at the Tarekat Naqsyabandiyah Kadirun Yahya (TNKY), a research question was asked about the process and experiences of prospective students who participated in bay‘at ritual. To answer the research questions used, qualitative methods with a phenomenological approach. The data source comes from the intersubjectivity of researchers and is equipped with other supporting data. Observation, interviews, and documentation were carried out in data collection, and data analysis was carried out by simplification, grouping, and interpretation stages. The findings of this study explain that before the initiation process is carried out, three orientations will be carried out to provide knowledge and ensure the readiness of prospective students to join TNKY. The process of bay‘at is carried out with the stages of bathing, repentance, praying sunnah, sleeping on its side like a corpse, and being covered with a shroud. The intersubjectivity of physical experience following bay‘at feels cold, hot, sore, sleepless, and uncomfortable. The inner experience gives rise to feelings of being tormented, constrained, afraid, and others. Still, the process of “torture” that is going through raises the awareness that only Allah is the place to ask for help and always strive to be connected to Him through remembrance.

Abstract

The Sufi movement in Minangkabau in the 20th century was influenced by Marxism. In some Muslim scholars' views, Marxism could not possibly be in line with Islam. On the ground, Islam and Marxism were able to act in dialectic as a weapon against colonialism that hit the entire Muslim society at the time. In Minangkabau, which has an Islamic view of life, the ideology of Marxism spread rapidly and captured the attention of the public, including the Sufis. To analyze this study uses the theory of social action by Max Weber, which is divided into four types, traditional action, affective action, instrumental rationality, and value rationality. Based on the traditional type, the Sufi tried to follow their teachers, as well as the tradition of the Padri, who went against colonialism. Through affective actions, the Sufis demonstrated a strong emotional bond to the system that exists in the Sufi tradition. Using instrumental rationality, they were consciously able to carry out the resistance rationally after seeing the available resources. In terms of rationality of value, the Sufis want to receive the reward for their jihad (mujahada), as had been done by the other Sufis before them
