Abstract

This study aims to explore the search and preservation strategies of ancient manuscripts implemented by the Deli Serdang Library and Archives. The method used is descriptive qualitative, which allows for in-depth analysis of the preservation process through historical data collection and interviews with related parties. The results of the study indicate that the library applies a non-interventionist approach by keeping the manuscripts in the hands of their owners to respect property rights and cultural sensitivity. In addition, active collaboration with local communities and traditional leaders is key to success in building community trust and participation. This strategy not only maintains the physical preservation of the manuscripts but also strengthens the cultural and social values inherent in the heritage. In conclusion, an approach that prioritizes respect for the community and participatory involvement is an important foundation for the sustainable preservation of ancient manuscripts in Deli Serdang.

Abstract

The marginalization of prasi art as a fine art and craft art on palm leaves which is one of Bali's world cultural heritages is fading and losing its taksu, is very interesting to study. Prasi generally contains a narrative puppet theme that contains a moral message in Hinduism teachings. Traces of prasi art have developed since the ancient Balinese era and as a genealogy of Balinese puppet painting. In accordance with the development of the era in this universal era, its existence is marginalized, it is important to understand several causal factors. The study is packaged in the concept of power relation theory (Foucaultian) and postmodern aesthetic theory, as an eclectic analysis tool to answer the problem that there is a power relation at play behind the marginalization of prasi art. The results obtained are that behind the marginalization of prasi art: there is a power relation and ideology of modern art that plays behind the fading taksu prasi and the ideology of pemrasi. Fabrication of prasi artwork (capitalist ideology) to follow consumers in the pemrasi, as a result the theme of the moral message of the puppet in the form of a puppet narrative is changed into a single figure actor in everyday life, so that there is a stripping of the character and charm of the prasi art. Added to the condition of the transfer of generations of prasi art does not occur, ideologically, the formal education policy of the Balinese government does not accommodate it in the local curriculum at all levels of education, as a result of the appreciation of the community and government, the art of prasi is not known to the community and the younger generation has no interest in studying the art of prasi. In fact, foreign visitors are very impressed with the art of prasi which is very unique and the subtle way of working on palm leaves. Some pemrasi in tourism centers (Tenganan Pegringsingan) for example, to meet consumer tastes, there is commodification and fabrication by the prasi craftsman so that the art of prasi loses its identity. As a result of changing the theme of the puppet (narrative) into a single figure by presenting objects of everyday life, becoming calendar souvenirs, and interpreting the needs of tourists themselves, even though schooler tourists are looking for authentic prasi. The ideology of moneytheism, the government and society's neglect of the art of prasi has resulted in the world heritage of prasi art losing its charm, prestige, and the function and meaning of its authenticity, as a character builder of the Balinese people.

Abstract

This study analyzes the symbolism of the buffalo in the colonial caricature De Inlandsche Karbouw, which portrays the resistance of Sarekat Islam against Dutch rule, contextualized with various primary sources. Initially established as a Muslim organization with an economic focus, Sarekat Islam evolved into a socio-political movement advocating justice for the indigenous population, causing alarm among the Dutch both in the colony and in the Netherlands. This research employs historical methods, including heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results indicate that the Dutch colonial government perceived this movement as a significant threat, as reflected in the De Inlandsche Karbouw caricature, which served as propaganda attempting to depict Sarekat Islam as a formidable force yet ostensibly controllable by the colonial administration. However, this supposed control was, in reality, illusory, as historical analysis demonstrates that Sarekat Islam grew massively and remained unstoppable. The symbolism of the giant buffalo illustrates the relentless expansion of Sarekat Islam’s influence, rendering the efforts of Pleyte, Boogaardt, Schuerer, Vliegen, and van Deventer ineffective, much to the delight of Douwes Dekker. This study highlights how Dutch colonialism used visual representation to shape public opinion and suppress the independence movement in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to measure in depth the effectiveness of implementing an integrated curriculum that integrates Islamic values and science in improving students' global competence at the regional level. Using a quantitative approach through a survey, this study involved 102 respondents consisting of male and female students. The research instrument was a Likert scale questionnaire that was prepared based on relevant global competence indicators. Data analysis using multiple linear regression was conducted in two stages to test the effect of independent variables on the dependent variable. The results of the first stage of analysis showed that the integrated curriculum contributed 31.4% to the improvement of students' global competence. This indicates a positive relationship between the implementation of an integrated curriculum and students' ability to adapt to the demands of an increasingly complex global world. In the second stage, by adding control variables, the R-square value increased to 35.4%, reinforcing the previous finding that the integrated curriculum has a significant influence on the development of students' global competence. The findings of this study provide important implications for the development of educational policies at the regional level. An integrated curriculum that integrates Islamic values and science is proven to be effective in improving students' ability to face global challenges. Therefore, it is recommended to expand the implementation of this integrated curriculum in more schools and conduct further research to identify other factors that may affect the effectiveness of the curriculum implementation.

Abstract

Student learning motivation in learning history is closely related to teacher performance. Teachers have a role in the success of education. The purpose of the study was to analyze whether there is a positive relationship and influence between teacher performance and learning motivation. This study uses an ex-post facto quantitative approach to analyze the relationship and influence of history teacher performance on the learning motivation of grade XI students at SMA Negeri 1 Wates and SMK Negeri 2 Pengasih. Sampling using a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire. Data analysis includes classical assumption tests (normality, linearity, multicollinearity, heteroscedasticity), multiple linear regression analysis to test causal relationships, and hypothesis testing (t-test, F-test) using SPSS 21.0. The results showed a positive relationship between history teacher performance and student learning motivation at SMA Negeri 1 Wates and SMK Negeri 2 Pengasih, as evidenced by a correlation value of R = 0.416 which indicates that the two variables are interrelated. The data shows a consistent pattern in both schools, where most students gave a positive assessment of the performance of history teachers. This study also shows a positive influence of history teacher performance on student learning motivation through linear regression analysis with the equation Y = 64.966 + 1.355X and an R-Square value of 0.173. This study suggests the need to improve learning support facilities, develop innovative teaching methods that are relevant to the context of students' lives, and strengthen students' awareness of the importance of learning history.

Abstract

This research aims to discuss education policies during the Ali Sastroamidjojo I Cabinet (1953-1955), including their impact on the Indonesian nation after independence. The research method used is the historical research method which includes the stages of heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The approach used in this paper uses the decolonization paradigm in the field of knowledge. The periodization in this study is limited from 1953 to 1955 in order to analyze more deeply the education policies implemented during the Ali Sastroamidjojo I Cabinet. The results of this study found that education policies during the Ali Sastroamidjojo I Cabinet succeeded in realizing Law Number 4 of 1950. This is represented by Yamin's actions as Minister of PP and K who continued and developed the Rentjana Peladjaran Terurai (1952) as the education curriculum during the Ali Cabinet. Yamin also supports additional assistance from the government for elementary, secondary, and vocational schools, including private schools. In addition, the opening of universities in 1954 that covered various disciplines also had an impact on Indonesia's educational climate, which became better than before.

Abstract

This study aims to implement a contextual learning approach based on the Riyaya Unduh-Unduh tradition as a strengthening of global diversity character in 8th-grade junior high school students. The Riyaya Unduh-Unduh tradition is a unique tradition from the Javanese Christian Church (GKJW) Mojowarno Jombang that reflects values of gratitude, tolerance, mutual cooperation, and appreciation of diversity. This research employs a mixed methods approach with sequential exploratory design combining ethnographic studies, Classroom Action Research (CAR), and evaluative research. The research subjects involved 32 students from 8th grade at SMP Pancasila Mojowarno, Jombang Regency. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, global diversity attitude questionnaires, plurality concept comprehension tests, and student reflective journals. The results show that the contextual learning approach based on the Riyaya Unduh-Unduh tradition is effective in improving students' understanding of plurality concepts with an N-gain of 0.72 (high category) and global diversity attitudes across five dimensions with significant score improvements. The developed learning model consists of five stages: context exploration, concept elaboration, project collaboration, critical reflection, and concrete action. The implementation of CAR in two cycles showed increased enthusiasm and student ability to identify diversity values. This research contributes to the development of global diversity character education that aligns with the Merdeka Curriculum and Pancasila Student Profile Program.

Abstract

Character education, as an integral part of national education, faces serious challenges due to the impact of rapid digital technological advancement, which has led to a decline in students' character index, particularly in the aspects of independence and integrity. Religious culture in schools has emerged as a strategic approach to strengthen students’ spiritual and moral values. However, its implementation is still constrained by partial technical approaches and limited participation from the school environment and the wider community. This study aims to identify strategies employed by school principals in strengthening character education through religious culture at SMP Negeri 2 Sukodono, Sidoarjo. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentary studies. The findings reveal six key strategies: (a) integration of religious values into the curriculum, (b) modeling and exploration of values, (c) habitual religious practices, (d) collaboration with school committees and parents, (e) infrastructure adjustments, and (f) continuous evaluation. These findings support Dewey’s theory of habit formation and successfully address challenges such as student diversity and low parental involvement through inclusive approaches. Overall, the implementation of religious culture not only enhances students’ character but also fosters a harmonious school climate, contributing both theoretically and practically to the development of value-based leadership models and character education policies.
