Abstract

Malaria is an infectious disease caused by mosquito vectors, and still a health problem in several countries, especially countries with tropical climates, one of them is Indonesia. Parasites with the genus Plasmodium are the cause of malaria transmitted by the bite of female Anopheles spp. Purworejo Regency had the highest number of malaria cases in 2018 and still a malaria-endemic area in Central Java. This study aims to determine the diversity of Anopheles spp founded in cattle sheds and breeding places. This study was a descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional study design between July - August 2020. This study's sample was the larval phase of Anopheles spp. which were caught from breeding sites using an entomological survey. The adult mosquitos are caught in the cattle pen with the resting method. The diversity of mosquitoes were Anopheles aconitus, Anopheles flavirostris, Anopheles kochi, Anopheles limosus, Anopheles maculatus, and Anopheles vagus. Anopheles vagus is a species of mosquito that is found in breeding places and livestock pens. Anopheles vagus' abundance was 95.16%, Anopheles aconitus, Anopheles flavirostris, Anopheles kochi, and Anopheles limosus relative abundance of 0.81%, and Anopheles maculatus of 1.61%.

Abstract

Title: Description of Characteristics and Prevention Practices of Imported Malaria Patients in Purworejo RegencyBackground: The proportion of imported malaria incidence in Purworejo Regency has increased during 2015-2019. One of the factors to minimize the occurrence of imported malaria cases is the practice of prevention while in the migration area. Therefore, this study aims to describe the characteristics and prevention practices of imported malaria sufferers in Purworejo Regency. Methods: The study design in this study was cross sectional with a sample of all Purworejo Regency migrant workers who carried out mobility to malaria endemic areas in 2015-2019 and recorded positive malaria in the public health center register, namely 100 respondents. The sampling technique used purposive sampling with inclusion criteria in Purworejo Regency. The statistical test in this study used descriptive analysis.Result: Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that the majority of respondents were ≤ 35 years old (73.0%), male (91.0%) with the majority of high school / MA / SMK education (66.0%). The majority of respondents' occupation is TNI / Polri (62.0%) with the destination of Papua (67.0%). In addition, the majority of respondents already used insecticide-treated bed nets (55.0%) and used mosquito repellent (86.0%). However, in the use of chemoprophylaxis, the majority of respondents did not use it (61.0%).Conclusion: Respondents' prevention practices are good. However, there are still many respondents who do not understand the importance of prevention practices. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the respondent's knowledge regarding the prevention practices of imported malaria. Keywords: Characteristics, Prevention Practices, Malaria Incidence, Imported Malaria Patients

Abstract

Mosquitoes are a vector of filariasis. Most areas in Indonesia have been declared endemic areas of filariasis. Each endemic area has a different vector and behavior. One factor that has been known to have a relationship with the distribution of mosquitoes as a vector of disease is the topography of the region which is closely related to the pattern of disease transmission. Therefore, it is necessary to have data regarding the distribution of filariasis vectors in the endemic filariasis areas. That data sources can be utilized by health policy holders as an information that is relating to the distribution of vectors for controlling filariasis. This review aims to describe the distribution of filariaisis vectors in endemic areas of filariasis in Indonesia. This research is a literature review research with a simplified approach. The research articles were collected from Google Scholar, Sciencedirect, Researhgate, and PubMed.  The results of this review was found that species of mosquitoes caught in endemic areas of filariasis came from four genera, namely Culex, Aedes, Anopheles, and Mansonia. The density of biting mosquitoes were calculated by MHD and MBR in each study area was different because the time of catching mosquitoes was different. The high dominance of a species made the species potentially became a potential vector. The comparison of parous and nulliparous mosquitoes at the arrest at the research place showed a greater proportion of parous. The highest age of mosquitoes was Culex quinquefasciatus (28 days). Only two species of mosquitoes were confirmed as filariasis vectors namely Culex quinquefasciatus and Anopheles barbirostris. Mosquitoes that had been confirmed as vector filariasis were found spreading and gathering around the location where there were a case of filariasis.

Abstract

Dengue fever is caused by the dengue virus and transmitted through the bite of a female Aedes aegypti mosquito whose body has been infected with the dengue virus. Cases that continue to increase are influenced by various factors both from the environment and human behavior. The number of cases of dengue fever in Tarakan City was quite fluctuating, where in 2017 it reached 140 cases then in 2018 it decreased to 124 and in 2019 there was a significant increase, There was 730 cases and during early January 2020 32 cases were found. Aedes sp consists of 4 stages, namely egg-larva-pupa-adult, while the main breeding place for Aedes sp mosquitoes was found in water reservoirs or containers that are inside or outside the house. The existence of larvae in an area was closely related to the presence of the Aedes sp mosquito population in the area. This type of research was descriptive research, research was carried out in the working area of the Tarakan Class II KKP port by conducting a single larva method larva survey with 100 houses in the buffer area and carried out by simple random sampling. The results of this study found 28 positive houses for larvae from 100 houses and 37 positive containers from a total of 230 containers examined.Base on  entomological indicators obtained the value of Density Figure (DF) is 5, which means that the density of larvae is moderate and has the possibility of spreading dengue disease.
