Abstract

Intensification efforts in farming to increase productivity must consider the pesticide utilization, especially insecticide and herbicide. Several pestisides which are still used include carbofuran and organochlorine, some of them have lipofilic properties and might harm to human health. Therefore, an effort is required to washing off pesticides from farming products is one of the effort which can be performed. Since pesticides has lipofilic properties, therefore cleaning pesticides with water is not sufficient. Surfactant is required to increase washing off ability of water. Wash off ability of several surfactants circulated on the market i. e. SL, ML and A were investigated. The result showed that the wash off ability values of surfactants to DDT residues on fresh apples were 79.18 %, 75.19 % and 67.49 % for SL, A and ML respectively. The wash off effectiveness of surfactant A, SL and ML to -metrine were 85.29 %, 80.48 % and 64.47 % respectively.Key words: pesticide, cleaning efficiency surfactant, DDT, -metrine.

Abstract

Fluoride  for  caries  prevention  if  consumes  for  a  long  period,  it  is sometimes  made  bored.  Normally, fluoride intake is uncontrolled and cause fluorosis.  Alternatively, implant fluor becomes the controlled method.  The study was  aimed  to  determine  the  influence  of  MFP-implant  on  tissue  pertinent changes  of  Wistar  Rattus-rattus.  The research subjects were Rattus-rattus mother of 20 rats (2 days pregnant).  Twenty  rats  were  divided  into  4  groups, namely  control  (K),  implant  P1,  implant  P2  and  implant  P3.  Subcutaneous implantation was done on rat back.  On the 8th day, euthanasia was done. Excission  was  done  surround  the  implant  tissue,  then  blocked  and  fixed  by formalin  buffer.  The specimen was cut along the implant tissue were examined by light microscope.  The data were analyzed by descriptive statistic.  The result showed that the incision was cured on the 5th – 7th day.  Tissue pertinent changes determination showed that there was lipid cell infiltration and relatively thicker of tissue on implant P3 and.  There was not any inflammation cell infiltrated and fibrous tissue. In conclusion, the infiltration of lipid cell on implant P3. The implant P2 was fulfilled the requirement of implant devices.Key words: MFP-implant, pertinent changes, rat

Abstract

Cyclodextrins are cyclic oligosaccharides which have been used extensively to improve the solubility in the formation of inclusion complex. The ability of cyclodextrin to form an inclusion complex has been attributed to factors including size of cyclodextrin cavity to the guest molecule and thermodynamics of their interactions.In this study, complex formation of phenobarbital and hidroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin in the acetate buffer 0.01 M pH 4.4 and phosphate buffer 0.01 M pH 7.4 all with μ =0.10 and at temperatures of 32.o, 37.o, and 42o±0.5oC were determined.The results showed that phenobarbital formed inclusion complex with hidroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin. The interaction shown a negative enthalphy (ΔH < 0 ), a spontaneous processes (ΔG < 0) and an increase in the entropy of the system (ΔS > 0).Key words : phenobarbital and hidroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin, inclusion complex, thermodynamics

Abstract

Acacia  catechu Willd.  belongs  to  the  family  Mimosaceae.  It is well known for the powder of wood known as Kathha” in India, which  has  wide  applications.  In  the  present  work,  the  dry  wood powder  is  extracted  in  various  solvents  such  as  1,4-dioxane, methanol,  dimethyl  formamide  (DMF),  acetone,  ethanol  and distilled water. The phytochemical and physicochemical properties of  these  various  solvent  extracts  were  studied.  The  phyto constituents  present  in  the  different  extracts  were  saponins, tannins,  sugars,  terpenes,  catechu-tannic  acid.  Alkaloids  were present  in  organic  solvents  only.  The  antibacterial  activity  of  all the extracts in DMSO was studied against five bacterial strains but none of the extracts inhibit any of the studied bacterial strains.Key  words: Acacia  catechu,  1,4-dioxane,  methanol,  dimethyl  formamide (DMF),  acetone,  ethanol,  distilled  water,  phytochemical analysis, physicochemical analysis.

Abstract

Previous research showed that a RIP like protein from Carica papaya L. leaves was available on 60 – 80% saturation ammonium sulfate fraction. In this research cytotoxicity assay of the protein fractions was carried out on HeLa cell lines.RIP-like protein from Carica papaya L. leaves, isolated leg ammonium sulfat saturation was prepared based on the ability of cleaving double stranded supercoiled DNA. This fraction was then tested its cytotoxicity on HeLa cell lines.The results indicated that fraction at 60% and 80% saturation possessed lower activity with the LC50 of 1,35 mg/ml and 0,936 mg/ml, respectively compared to the crude extracts (LC50 0,623 mg/ml). The higher toxicity level of the crude extract might be caused also by toxicity of other compounds containing in the crude extract.Key word : cytotoxicity, protein fraction, HeLa cell line

Abstract

This present study was carried out to evaluate antioxidant activities, total phenolic and total flavonoid contents of ethyl acetate extract of Mengkudu fruit and its fractions. Ethyl acetate extract was fractionated by column chromatography and yielded 15 fractions based on the identical TLC (thin layer chromatography) profile.Antioxidant activities in ethyl acetate extract and its fractions were determined by radical scavenging assay using DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1- picrylhydrazyl) radical. The total phenolic and total flavonoid contents were determined spectrophotometrically.Among 15 fractions of ethyl acetate extract evaluated, fraction 8 (IC50 5,49 μg/mL) and fraction 7 (IC50 7,90 μg/mL) revealed antioxidant activities that higher than that of vitamin E (IC50 8,27 μg/mL). The total phenolic contents ranged from 5.94 ± 0.08 to 36.52 ± 0.35 g of gallic acid equivalent/100 gram dry material whereas the total flavonoid contents ranged from 1.19 ± 0.02 to 17.65 ± 0.17 g of quercetin equivalent/100 gram dry material.A linier positive relationship existed between the antioxidant activities and total phenolic contents of the tested ethyl acetate extract and its fractions y = -1.220x + 44.022; r2 = 0.67, while the correlation between antioxidant activities and total flavonoid contents revealed a linier regression y = -2.202 x + 35.82; r2 = 0.4278.Key words: antioxidant activity, Morinda citrifolia, L, Fraction

Abstract

The activity testing of flavonoid compounds as antioxidant and as scavenger of free radical, isolated from the Stelechocarpus burahol leaves had been performed. The aqueous extract of the leaves was concentrated and then suspended in ethanol to produce ethanolic fraction. The fraction was chromatographed on several paper chromatography systems to produce isolate with chromatographic purity.The all isolated flavonoid was identified by paper chromatography system. Especially, the B4b isolate were identified further using spectrometer UV-Vis, FT-IR and ¹H-NMR. Their antioxidant activities were done by the DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging method.The all isolated flavonoid showed activity as DPPH scavenger. Among these isolate, B4b exhibited a strong free radical scavenging with an EC50 value of 6.43 μg/mL. They were identified and B4b isolate was pressumed as flavon with hydroxyl group on C-3, C-7, C-3', C-4' and methyl on C-5.Key words : Stelechocarpus burahol, flavonoid, antioxidant, DPPH

Abstract

Since protein is the principal constituent of biological organs, a continuous supply is needed in food for growth and repair. Protein quality in food is determined by its assortment of amino acids, whether it is essentially needed or not. The aim of this study is to develop an accurate and precise simple method of protein estimation for food and feed. The validity of simple protein estimation by multiplying the N-total concentration with a constant factor: of 6.25, should be clarified. Protein could be estimated more specifically by summing up the determined amino acids. In this study, the amino acids of some substantially high protein food were analysed by HPLC-ninhydrin, HPLC-o-phthalaldehyde, and HPLC-dansyl techniques, by gas chromatograph after derivation with TFA-butanol, and by formol titration. Method based on HPLC-ninhydrin techniques shows significant correlation (r=0-9992) with its amino acids content and N-total content. The protein as amino acids - N-total conversion factor obtained was 6.95 for N-total content less than 15.5%, and 8.59 for N-total content higher than 15.5%.Key words: food, protein and analytical methods

Abstract

Mahkota Dewa [Phaleria macrocarpa (Scheff). Boerl.] is used traditionally to treat cancers in Indonesia. Extract methanol of the leaves displayed a small LC50 value (63.16 μg/ml) on BST (Brine Shrimp Lethality test) assay; therefore a phytochemical study of this extract was undertaken. A new benzophenoic glucoside was isolated from the methanol extract and identified as 4,5-dihydroxy,4’-methoxybenzophenone-3-0-β-D-glucoside (Phalerin) based on its spectroscopic data. Phalerin was cytotoxic to myeloma cell line (NS-1) (in vitro) having IC50 of 83 μg/ml or 1.9 x 10-1 mM.Key words: Phaleria macrocarpa, Phalerin, myeloma

Abstract

The anti-inflammatory effectof dominant compound of mahkota dewa fruit (Phaleria macrocarpaScheff. Boerl), a hydroxyl benzophenon glucoside,to Wistar  female  rats  (using  λ-karagenan  as  inflammatory  inducer)  has  been investigated.   The inflammation was measured by pletismometer.  The test has been used physiology NaCl solution as a control andNaproxen at a dose of 22.5 mg/kg body weight as a standard. Anti-inflammatorytest was showed that the decreased  inflammation  of  the  isolate  at  a  dose  of  22.5  mg/kg  body  has  twice lower than the standard.Key words:  Phaleria  macrocarpa,  anti-inflammatory  activity,  hydroxyl  benzophenon glucoside
