Abstract

ABSTRACT: This article highlights the relationship between reading activity and thinking skill, and to expose the impacts of reading comprehension toward someone’s thinking skill and vice versa. Reading involves cognitive process. A reader can process the text during reading activity while she or he thinks over what stated in the passage to comprehend the text. Comprehension is the reason for reading. If readers can read the words but do not understand fully what the meaning of the text being read, they are not really reading. The reading itself involves thinking. It takes place when a reader recognizes printed symbols, interprets the prints, and responds by saying the words and gets meaning from the process of reading. When reading, good readers usually go beyond the line and interpret what is written in the light of the context of their own experiences, select the ideas that are pertinent to the purposes for reading, evaluate them, compare them with the available facts, and reach tentative conclusions or generate new ideas. Therefore, reading is a cognitive process.  EFL students who read routinely and critically must significantly expand their insights about the world, which lead them to be broad minded.  Furthermore, to be critical thinkers, the students must firstly be avid readers.

Abstract

ABSTRACT: This research aims to analyze the syntax errors on writing essays to 25th practical literature participants in academic year2017 at FKIP University of Riau. It used qualitative descriptive. Source of research data obtained based on the collection of essays writing from participant contests. The data was taken from the language syntax errors analysis between phrases to phrase and clauses to clauses. The researcher used documentation as the technique such as reading collection of essays, classifying error analysis of language syntax, and analyzing the essays of participants. The pproceduress were: (1) selecting the language corpus, (2) identifying the errors in the corpus, (3) classifying the errors, (4) explaining the errors, and (5) evaluating the errors. There were 38 data with errors on phrases which include the addition of phrases in the object (B+S) were 15 data, the addition of words from or about in the phrase objects (B+B) were 3 data, the additional of words to Work in phrases (passive K+K) were 12 data and errors on the clause, and the additional of the preposition words between verbs and its object in clause were 8 active data. Abstract

ABSTRAK: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah metodepembelajaran dengan metode copy the master lebih efektif daripada metodekonvensional dalam pembelajaran menulis puisi siswa kelas III SD Negeri 30Palembang. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen. Populasi penelitianini adalah siswa kelas III SD Negeri 30 Palembang tahun pelajaran 2015/2016.Jumlah populasi 126 orang. Jumlah sampel 58 orang yang terdiri dari 29 orangsiswa kelas III C sebagai kelas eksperimen dan 29 orang siswa kelas III D sebagai kelas kontrol. Data diolah dengan program SPSS versi 17. Pengujian hipotesis menggunakan analisis perbedaan dengan uji t. Pada kelas eksperimen nilai rata-rata awal tes 50,97 dan nilai rata-rata akhir tes 80,00. Terjadi peningkatan gain score 29,03. Untuk kelas kontrol nilai rata-rata awal tes 45,10 dan nilai rata-rata akhir tes 54,76. Terjadi peningkatan gain score 9,66. Hasil analisis data diketahui nilai terhitung 14,871 dan ttabel 2,003 artinya thitung > ttabel. Berarti metode pembelajaran copy the master lebih efektif daripada metode konvensional terhadap kemampuan menulis puisi siswa kelas III SDN 30 Palembang.Kata-kata kunci: keefektifan, metode copy the master, menulis puisi, SDN e g e r i 3 0 P al e m b a ng .

Abstract

ABSTRACT: This study aims to determine the effect of modeling model learning the way to the ability to write text fable stories by students of class VIII SMP Muhammadiyah 3 Medan Year Learning 2016/2017. The population of this study is a class of 50 students, consisting of 2 classes. Based on the determination of the selected sample , class VIII A was as the experimental class and VIII B was as the control class. The method used is the experimental method. Based on the results of research, the ability to write fable story text using modeling modeling the way in experiment class was good because 7 students reach the value of 66-79 (32%), while the ability to write fable story text by using conventional learning model / lecture on control class is less because 11 students reach a value of 40-54 (40%). From the result of hypothesis testing where tcount> ttable was dk = (N1+N2)-2=48 by comparing tcount value with table value obtained was higher than t-table that is 13,78>1,78. Keywords : modeling the way, write, fable story text.

Abstract

ABSTRACT: The problem of this study was: ”Is it effective to teach vocabulary by using STT to the seventh grade students of Karya Ibu Junior High School of Palembang?”.Therefore the objective of this study was to find out whether or not it was effective to teach vocabulary to the seventh grade students of Karya Ibu Junior High School of Palembang by using STT. The population of the study was all the seventh grade students of Karya Ibu Junior High School of Palembang in academic year of 2015/2016 with total member of 230. Its sample was taken from class VII. 5 which consisted of 37 students. The method was pre experimental design. In collecting the data, the researcher gave written test in the form 40 multiple choices, and in analyzing the data used match t-test. It was found that teaching English vocabulary by using snowball throwing was effective. It could be seen from the means difference between the result of the pre-test and the result of the post-test. The average of the students’ score in the pre-test was 7.5 and the average of the students’ score in the post-test was 9.25. There was a significantly different score between the result of the t-obtained and t-table. In this study, the result of the t-obtained was 2.154 and t-table was 1.697. It could be concluded that it was effective to teach English vocabulary by using STT to the seventh grade students of Karya Ibu Junior High School of Palembang. Key words: teaching, vocabulary, STT

Abstract

Subjek Penelitan yakni siswa kelas VII SMP Kayuara Kuning Kabupaten Banyuasin tahun ajaran 2014-2015. metode pengumpulan data yaitu teknik tes, observasi dan dokumentasi. Hasil analisis data tes diperoleh untuk kelas eksperimen 78,38 dan untuk kelas kontrol 60,43. Untuk analisis data observasi yaitu terjadi peningkatan hasil belajar siswa pada kelas eksperimen dengan rerata 71,40% sedangkan rerata kelas kontrol sebesar 57,81%. Dari rerata keaktifan hasil beljar siswa secara keseluruhan pada kelas eksperimen dikategorikan aktif sedangkan pada kelas kontrol dikategorikan cukup. Adapun hasil uji hipotesis didapatkan ada pengaruh pendekatan kontekstual terhadap hasil belajar siswa dalam mata pelajaran bahsa Indonesia materi menulis surat pribadi pada siswa kelas VII SMP Kayuara kuning Kabupaten banyuasin III yang ditunjukkan pada hasil pengujian hipotesis diperoleh p value> 0,05 (p=0,000). Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulak, pendekatan kontekstual dapat dijadikan salh satu alternatif pendekatan pembelajaran.Kata-kata kunci: pendekatan kontekstual, menulis surat pribadi

Abstract

ABSTRACT: The use of technology in the learning process created a new concept in IT based learning, known as e-learning. In e-learning, there was a lot of online learning that can be selected by the teachers as a media of learning, such as Edmodo. Edmodo is primarily a tool for within-class communication, but also provides several ways for teachers to connect with other teachers. This research focused on investigating the effectiveness of using Edmodo as a supplementary tool in learning English from the students’ perspective. The researcher used triangulation approach in gathering data. Survey questionnaire adapted from Enriquez (2014) was used as the main research instrument of the research. 39 students joined the Edmodo class, but there were only 28 students filled the questionnaire completely. The results showed on the statement regarding the usefulness of reference materials posted by the teacher in Edmodo, a significant number 46.4% agree and 46.4% strongly agree or considered the reference materials as vital in understanding the course better. Participants also perceived that Edmodo is a good learning tool to supplement face to face discussion. One disadvantage in using Edmodo as perceived by 21.4% of the participants is the difficulty procedure to understand and to follow for them. Overall, the findings affirmed that majority of the participants considered it as an effective supplementary tool in learning English. Keywords: effectiveness, supplementary tool, English, perception

Abstract

ABSTRACT: The problems of the research were: 1. What types of grammatical errors were found in the SL into TL Translation made by fifth semester students of English department of Tridinanti University of Palembang? 2.What were the frequency and the percentage of each types of grammatical error in translated texts made by the students? The aims of the study were to describe the errors that were found in the SL into TL Translation writing made by the students of Tridinanti University Palembang, to describe the frequency and the percentage of each type of grammatical errors in translated texts made by the students. In this research the writer used qualitative approach with the documentation technique used to collect the data, and analyze the data used of content analysis. The result of the research based on the surface category taxonomy, the student‘s errors could be classified into: 1) omission, (2) addition, (3) misformation, and (4) misordering errors. 2) Reveal with the frequency and the percentage of each types of grammatical error in translated texts made by the students, the writer found that 0.95 % errors in omission, 0.8 % errors in additions, 0.8 % errors in missformation), 0.75 errors in misordering.Keywords: Errors, translation, SL into TL.

Abstract

ABSTRAK: Dongeng merupakan salah satu sarana pembentuk karakter terutama bagi anak-anak. Nilai-nilai yang terkandung di dalam karya sastra ini diresapi oleh anak dan secara tidak sadar merekonstruksi sikap dan kepribadian mereka. Bagi anak-anak mendengarkan cerita atau mendengarkan dongeng yang disampaikan oleh orang tua merupakan cara yang tepat untuk membentuk karakter mereka. Melalui cerita atau dongeng, anak-anak akan lebih mudah untuk menyerap ajaran tentang moral, etika, sosial, dan lain-lain. Dan karakter tokoh pun ditentukan sesuai dengan karakter anak. Ringan, mudah dipahami, menghibur, tak jauh dari kehidupan anak, bersifat khayalan karena anak suka berkhayal. Untuk itu dalam tulisan ini akan membahas nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter yang dapat ditanamkan dalam sastra lisan terutama dongeng. Kata-Kata Kunci: pendidikan karakter, sastra lisan, dongeng

ABSTRACT: This paper mainly discusses about the critical analysis ofthe current practice of English language teaching which pay less attentionin local culture and also to propose the alternative solution for the sake ofsupporting and promoting character of education in Indonesia. In the lineof the national education goal, it seems that the most possible way toovercome this is by integrating Indonesian local culture values in thepractice of English Language teaching to enhance students’ character.
