Abstract

Traditional Nahwu (Arabic syntax) teaching materials often lack interactivity and fail to engage students, leading to difficulties in grasping complex grammatical concepts. To address this gap, this research and development (R&D) study aimed to design and evaluate interactive digital-based Nahwu teaching materials. Following the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation), the study involved needs analysis, prototype design, and trials with students and lecturers. The findings demonstrate that the developed digital resource, enriched with quizzes, animations, explanatory videos, and educational games, significantly enhances student engagement, motivation, and conceptual understanding. This study confirms the effectiveness of interactive digital tools in Arabic language education and contributes a validated model for innovating Nahwu instruction.

Abstract

Arabic writing skills are crucial for Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) students however, many still face challenges in mastering them, including those at MTs Al Hikmah Bandar Lampung. A key factor contributing to these difficulties is the students' limited foundational knowledge of the Arabic language. The Imla' Manzhur learning method is regarded as an important subject of research due to its potential to enhance students' writing abilities through visual memory reinforcement and direct writing practice. This research examines the impact of the Imla' Manzhur approach on enhancing seventh grade students' ability to write in Arabic at MTs Al Hikmah Bandar Lampung. A quantitative research approach was employed, utilizing a simple experimental design. The findings indicate that the implementation of the Imla' Manzhur method significantly improved students' writing proficiency, as evidenced by the post-test average score of the experimental group reaching 80.00, compared to 59.64 in the control group. Statistical analysis using a t-test revealed a significant result (p < 0.05), confirming the method's effectiveness in Arabic language instruction. These findings suggest that the Imla' Manzhur method can serve as a valuable recommendation for Arabic language teaching in madrasah.

Abstract

Research on the contribution of Musabaqah Fahmil Qur'an (MFQ) materials to developing critical thinking skills remains limited, particularly regarding its Arabic language questions. This study analyses the role of Arabic questions in the 2022 MFQ guidebook in enhancing the critical thinking skills of university students, focusing on the El-Faqih community at UIN Malang. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through Arabic tests and critical thinking questionnaires based on Angelo's framework. The results reveal that MFQ questions are designed with a scaffolded difficulty level, peaking in the final round. This structure effectively stimulates higher-order thinking skills, such as interpreting, analysing, and evaluating Qur'anic content. The findings confirm that MFQ significantly sharpens critical thinking. Therefore, educators and competition organisers should design questions that promote deeper cognitive engagement. Further research is recommended to explore additional pedagogical strategies to maximise MFQ's critical thinking benefits.

Abstract

Vocabulary is a crucial component of language acquisition and plays a key role in communicative competence. Mastery of Arabic vocabulary significantly influences overall language skills, making it essential for teachers to understand a variety of effective vocabulary teaching methods. This study aims to explore various Arabic vocabulary learning strategies by reviewing scientific articles published in Sinta 2 and Sinta 3 indexed journals between 2020 and 2024. The research employs a literature review method with a systematic approach based on Gough’s eight-step procedure. A total of 14 articles were analyzed to identify vocabulary learning strategies commonly applied. The findings reveal eight main methods: the use of mnemonic songs, Total Physical Response (TPR), sentence construction and writing techniques, language games, the Visual Auditory Kinesthetic (VAK) learning model, Think-Pair-Share strategy, cooperative learning, and imitation-based memorization. Additionally, the integration of digital tools such as Wordwall and online games proved to enhance vocabulary acquisition and learner motivation. These findings provide valuable insights for Arabic language teachers in selecting methods that align with learners’ characteristics and needs. The study recommends the adoption of varied and technology-supported approaches to improve the effectiveness of Arabic vocabulary learning.

Abstract

The integration of technology into education continues to evolve, with Android-based game media offering new opportunities for more engaging learning experiences. However, there is still a lack of research that specifically focuses on developing Android-based game media to improve Arabic grammar skills at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah level. This study aims to develop Android-based game media to enhance students’ Arabic grammar skills in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah. Utilizing a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the Alessi & Trollip development model, the research involved media experts, subject matter experts, practitioners, and 40 students. Data were collected through observation and questionnaires, then analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative methods. During alpha testing, the media received an average feasibility score of 91.17% from experts and practitioners, categorized as "very strong." In the beta testing phase, 40 students participated, and the media achieved an average score of 88.00%, also rated as "very strong." These results indicate that the Android-based game media is highly feasible and effective for supporting Arabic grammar instruction. The study concludes that this media can serve as a valuable supplementary tool to improve grammar proficiency and increase student engagement in Arabic language learning at the elementary level.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of Instagram as an innovative medium for enhancing Arabic vocabulary mastery among university students in Islamic higher education. Despite the growing integration of digital tools in education, vocabulary instruction in Arabic courses remains dominated by rote memorization and teacher-centered methods, often resulting in low motivation and limited retention. Instagram, popular among students, offers interactive and visual features that could support more engaging and flexible language learning, yet remains underexplored in this context. Focusing on students in the Natural Sciences Education Program at a State Islamic Institute in Indonesia, this study employs a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model involving data reduction, display, and verification. Findings show that Instagram enhances vocabulary learning through its accessibility, content variety, and alignment with student preferences. The platform fosters increased motivation, creativity, and engagement, while its visual and interactive nature supports vocabulary comprehension and retention. This study contributes to the field of technology-assisted Arabic instruction by addressing a gap in empirical research on social media use in Islamic higher education. It highlights the pedagogical potential of integrating familiar digital platforms like Instagram to support more autonomous and effective language learning.

Abstract

Despite growing recognition of communicative competence in second language acquisition, Arabic instruction in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) often remains focused on grammar, overlooking pragmatic competence. This gap limits students’ ability to use Arabic appropriately in real-life interactions, particularly in directive and assertive forms of speech. This study addresses that gap by exploring how students at Darul Lughah Waddirosatil Islamiyah in Madura perform Arabic speech acts within an immersive environment. The research aims to analyze the variation and functions of directive and assertive speech acts and how these contribute to effective communication and pedagogy. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through observations, interviews, and document analysis involving 30 advanced-level students. Results show that students strategically adjust their speech based on roles, social hierarchy, and interactional context often using indirect forms and politeness markers. These patterns emerged naturally through immersion rather than formal instruction. The findings highlight the importance of integrating pragmatics into Arabic curricula, emphasizing culturally and contextually appropriate communication. Such integration promotes not only language fluency but also socio-religious sensitivity, aligning Arabic education with both communicative and ethical goals.
