Abstract

The Duolingo application offers foreign language learning, specifically Arabic, to learners worldwide. Although effective, the material within it must meet international language learning standards. This research aims to assess the suitability of Duolingo's material in accordance with the international standards set by ACTFL. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with primary data consisting of Duolingo's materials and secondary data comprising relevant literature. Both data sets are analyzed using Milles and Hubberman's theory. The results indicate that Duolingo complies with the international standards established by ACTFL, covering proficiency levels from Distinguished, Superior, Advanced, Intermediate, to Novice. Each proficiency level ensures that learners can learn a foreign language gradually and systematically according to their language abilities.

Abstract

Technology integration in education is becoming increasingly important in the ever-evolving digital era. Using technology as a medium to teach students will increase the competence of educators in teaching Arabic. On the other hand, technology is expected to dilute differences in learning styles, students' ability levels, distance limitations, time, and various other learning problems that are always a scourge for educators, especially Arabic-speaking educators. This study aims to determine the relevance of computer science and Arabic language learning technology in supporting Arabic language learning from the perspective of Israel Scheffler. The type of research used uses qualitative research with a case study approach. The data sample used was a lecturer majoring in Arabic Language Education, with data collection techniques using in-depth interview techniques and documentation. The data analysis technique uses three stages: displaying data, reducing data, and drawing conclusions. The study results show the importance of integrating computer science and digital technology in learning Arabic from the perspective of Israel Scheffler, who emphasizes the importance of critical and analytical thinking skills. Digital technologies, such as AI and interactive applications, have revolutionized learning methods, enabling more responsive and effective curricula and teaching methods. Collaboration between computer science experts and Arabic language educators through joint training and projects results in innovative solutions, improving teaching efficiency and enriching students' learning experience so that education remains relevant.

Abstract

This study presents a bibliometric analysis of the development of Arabic language learning research indexed in the Scopus database from 2009 to 2024. The aim of this research is to identify trends, citation patterns, geographical distribution, and journal rankings. The method used is bibliometric analysis by collecting and analyzing data using VOSviewer and Publish or Perish software. The analyzed parameters include the number of publications, citation patterns, geographical distribution, h-index, g-index, and journal rankings. A total of 26 relevant publications were analyzed, showing Indonesia as the leader in the number of publications, followed by Malaysia and Tunisia. Significant international collaborations, especially among Indonesia, Malaysia, and Jordan, were identified. The most cited documents appeared in 2011 and 2019, with 2011 having the highest total citations of 20. The highest h-index and g-index values were recorded in 2019, each reaching three. Indonesia contributed 11 documents, Malaysia five documents, and Tunisia three documents. Most research was found in non-quartile journals, although Q1-ranked journals were also prominent. The main focuses in the development of Arabic language learning identified are e-Learning, bilingualism, and computational linguistics. Abstract

The gap in research regarding the integration of grammar and morphology in modern Arabic language education curricula in Indonesia has prompted this study. This research aims to analyze the teaching of nahwu and sharaf in the instructional process of students in the Arabic Language Education Department at Islamic University of Riau in Indonesia, employing a sequential explanatory approach. The methodology includes observations, interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal a shift in the curriculum from a separate traditional system to an integrated approach, highlighting essential components for effective Arabic language teaching, the importance of integrated language skills, and the advantages of technology-based automated assessment for monitoring student progress. The implications suggest that effective teaching of nahwu and sharaf requires a comprehensive approach that combines various language teaching components and leverages technology for assessment and progress tracking. This research contributes to the development of more effective and integrated Arabic language teaching strategies at the higher education level in Indonesia.

Abstract

The innovative curriculum is designed to better adapt to the needs of the working world and technological developments. This ensures that students not only acquire theoretical knowledge, but also the practical skills needed to succeed in their careers. It turns out that not all students understand the concept of the Independent Learning-Campus Independent Curriculum (innovative curriculum). On the other hand, students are not involved in the curriculum development process. This paper aims to describe student preparation in implementing an innovative curriculum, and reveal the impact of implementing an innovative curriculum. This type of research is qualitative research with a survey approach. The population of this study are students of the Arabic Language Education Study Program at UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya who have used an innovative curriculum. The sample was drawn using purposive sampling technique. The instrument is a questionnaire that has been validated by two education experts. The conclusion of this study shows that students of the Arabic Language Education Study Program, UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya have shown good readiness to implement an innovative curriculum. The research findings revealed that students felt an increase in their soft skills and hard skills. That is in the form of Arabic communication skills and the ability to master Arabic grammar, vocabulary, and Arabic sentence structure. This research makes a significant contribution to the development of higher education curriculum that the implementation of innovative curriculum effectively improves students' soft skills and hard skills.

Abstract

The teaching of Arabic in higher education has yet to fully utilize the language environment as a learning resource. However, improving Arabic speaking skills is closely linked to the language environment. This study aims to develop a valid, practical, and effective Arabic language learning model to enhance students' speaking skills at Islamic higher education institutions. This research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach, utilizing the ADDIE model designed by Branch, which consists of five phases: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The study involved 23 students for testing practicality and effectiveness, as well as two experts for validating the model. Data were collected through questionnaires, interviews, observation sheets, and speaking skill tests. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were used for data analysis. Abstract

Numerous studies on the teaching of speaking skills have been conducted; however, the majority have primarily focused on analyzing instructional models, strategies, and methods. The aspect of instructional communication, particularly when examined through the framework of the Five Inevitable Laws of Effective Communication, has yet to be thoroughly explored in previous research. Therefore, this study aims to measure the communication effectiveness of Maharah Kalam learning at an Islamic university in Thailand based on these five laws, also known as the REACH concept: Respect, Empathy, Audibility, Clarity, and Humility. This study employed a mixed-methods approach, collecting qualitative data through interviews and quantitative data through questionnaires to evaluate the effectiveness of communication in Arabic speaking skills learning. For the qualitative aspect, interviews were conducted to gather data. In terms of the quantitative aspect, validity and reliability tests were performed. Validity was assessed using the Product Moment Correlation formula, while reliability was measured using Cronbach's Alpha for internal consistency. The results indicated that the effectiveness of Arabic speaking skills communication among students at Kolej Islam Syeikh Daud AlFathani (KISDA) reached 82%, placing it in the "very effective" category. The factors influencing the effectiveness of communication in Arabic speaking skills learning are the communicator (lecturer) and the content of the message (material).
