Wahana-Bio is the a scientific Journal of Biology and its learning, published by the Program of Biology Education, Mathematics and Natural Science Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat. This focuses on the delivery of information on the results of scientific research conducted by the internal and external academicians ULM especially in the field of Biology dan Biology Education. Journal "Wahana-Bio" covers all topics related to related to Biology (botany, zoology, microbiology, genetic, ecology, biotechnology, and related fields) and Biology Education (biology curriculum, teaching biology, instructional media, evaluation, and research and development). Published article published is the article the results of research, studies or critical and comprehensive scientific study on important issues and current job descriptions included in the journal. Wahana-Bio is the Journal of Biology and its learning, published by the Department of Biology Education, Mathematics and Natural Science Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat. Abstract

The development of creativity is included in one of the focuses of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System. One way to develop students' creativity is to develop creative thinking skills. This study aims to describe the validity of interactive modules in science learning to improve students' creative thinking skills in junior high schools. This study uses a 4D research and development model design. Data were collected using validity instruments and legibility test questionnaires, then analyzed descriptively. The research subjects consisted of 5 expert validators and 2 students. The results showed (1) the validity of the interactive science learning module met the very valid category with an average result of 86.07. (2) the readability test of the interactive science learning module met the "good enough" category, with an average result of 70.83. The interactive science learning module is declared valid to improve students' creative thinking skills in junior high schools.

Abstract

Cyperaceae has a very large number of members and massive distribution. Species of Cyperaceae live around water and land. The grass (family Cyperaceae) that lives around galam-vegetated swamps in Bati-Batii sub-district has never been studied. Cyperaceae plants can be used as environmental bioindicators. This study to describe the plant species Cyperaceae in the Galam (Melaleuca cajuputi subsp. cumingiana) vegetated swamp. The research method uses a descriptive approach. The research area is a swamp with galam vegetation in Bati-Bati District. There were 5 species of Cyperaceae (Cyperus pilosus, Cyperus pulcherrimus, Eleocharis dulcis, Fimbristylis autumnalis, and Fuirena umbellata). Environmental factors affect the presence of species from Cyperaceae in the Galam vegetated Swamp area.

Abstract

Critical attitude is born from critical thinking skills in the neighborhood (surrounding environment) and the daily life of the individual. Critical thinking skills can be trained in the learning process by using appropriate learning strategies and resources. One of the learning resources that can be used to practice critical thinking skills is a contextual electronic handout (e-handout). This study aims to describe the practicality of the e-handout “Surrounding Wetlands Environment” to practice critical thinking skills. Assessment of the practicality of the e-handout through one-on-one evaluation and small group evaluation. The research subjects were 5 students of Biology Education at Universitas Lambung Mangkurat (one-on-one evaluation) and 5 other students (small group evaluation). The data collection instruments used were readability test questionnaires, implementation test questionnaires, student response questionnaires, and critical thinking skills measurement activity sheets. The results showed that the e-handout "Surrounding Wetlands Environment" is very practical to practice critical thinking skills.

Abstract

The mechanism of genetic changes that occur due to interactions with the environment in biology is known as epigenetics. Epigenetics has a role in learning and memory formation and storage. This study aims to determine how big the contribution of epigenetics as an independent canonical variable to the higher order thinking skills and spiritual intelligence of education biology students. This type of research is a correlational multivariate with a quantitative approach. The research sample was taken by using stratified random sampling technique. The data collection instrument used a selected response test instrument to measure higher order thinking skills and a questionnaire instrument to obtain epigenetic data and students' spiritual intelligence. The data analysis technique used canonical multivariate analysis with the help of SPSS software. The results of the analysis of interpretation of canonical weights, canonical loads and canonical cross-loads show that nature and nurture (epigenetics) are variables that both contribute and correlate to the canonical dependent variable (HOTs and student spiritual intelligence).

Abstract

The pandemic that has occurred around the world has affected various areas of life, including education. Learning in schools has been directed at distance learning, including biology practicum activities in the laboratory. Teachers are required to innovate and create interactive media. One of the interactive learning media that can connect the subject and object of learning is a virtual lab. Learning media must be suitable for use in the learning process. This study aims to describe the feasibility of a virtual lab based on a scientific approach on the structure and function of plant tissue. Research and development carried out using the Borg & Gall (1983) model, until the main product revision stage. The feasibility of learning media resulted from expert validation and user readability tests. Expert validation shows that the virtual biology lab based on a scientific approach is a very valid category. The readability test in a virtual biology lab based on a scientific approach showed a very good category. The virtual lab learning media based on a scientific approach to the material on the structure and function of plant tissue can be used independently or guided in distance learning.

Abstract

The survival rate of snakehead fish (Channa striata) is low. Provision of natural food during the survival phase and growth of snakehead fish larvae is very important. Artemia is a natural food for freshwater and marine fish larvae which has high nutritional value, but lacks vitamin A. Enrichment techniques are needed to increase the nutritional value of Artemia. The aim of this study was to compare survival rates, growth rates of snakehead fish larvae fed Artemia feed enriched with vitamin A. Snakehead fish were reared for 16 days and given Artemia enriched with vitamin A (with 1,000 IU/L, 2,000 IU/L, and 3,000 IU/l. The results showed that treatment had no significant effect on survival rate (58.33-98.33%), but had a significant effect (P>0.05) on total weight growth and feed conversion ratio (1.062-4.23 gram and 3.581- 5.100 grams), and had a very significant effect (P>0.01) on total length growth (1.036-1.256 cm). The best dose for maintenance of snakehead fish larvae is Artemia enriched with vitamin A with 3,000 IU/L.

Abstract

Analysis of the purity and concentration of DNA isolation results was carried out using samples of dragonflies (Onychogomphus forcipatus) species of insects. This research is important because there are many kinds of research in the molecular field that require good DNA isolation techniques to support the success of the research. The purpose of this paper is to provide information about the quality of the isolated DNA seen using the purity and concentration parameters. The extraction method uses the centrifuge column method. The isolated data were analyzed statistically using the average test. The results of DNA isolation showed that the average concentration value was in the range of 60.10 – 69.95. The analysis of the purity of the isolated DNA read at the A260/A280 ratio was in the range of 1.817 – 1.929, while the purity analysis at the A260/A230 ratio was in the range of 0.760 – 0.822. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the analysis of the purity and concentration of DNA from the isolation of dragonfly samples was in a good category at the A260/A280 ratio, while the purity read at the A260/A230 ratio was below the value categorized as good.

Abstract

Red beet (Beta vulgaris L.) is a plant with low productivity, so it is necessary to increase productivity by optimally cultivating plants. This study aims to examine the composition of the planting medium and the right dose of nitrogen fertilizer to increase the growth and yield of red beet plants which was carried out from March to June 2022 in Sengkrakan Hamlet, Bedali, Lawang District, Malang Regency, East Java. This study was designed using a factorial randomized block design (RAKF) with the first factor being the composition of the growing media consisting of three levels, namely, soil, soil and compost, soil and cow manure. The second factor is the dose of nitrogen fertilizer which consists of four levels, namely, 50 kg N/ha, 75 kg N/ha, 100 kg N/ha and 125 kg N/ha. The analysis used in this study is analysis of variance followed by the BNJ test at 5% level with the help of computer programs MS. Excel and SPSS. Combination treatment of soil planting media composition and cow manure with a dose of nitrogen fertilizer 50 kg N/ha can increase the height of red beet plants aged 35, 42, 63 and 70 days after planting, increase the number of leaves of red beet plants aged 14 and 28 days after planting and increase dry weight. red beet plant.

Abstract

Cyperus is herbaceous plant from the Cyperaceae. This plant has a triangular stem with compound flowers. Cyperus grows a lot around rice fields because this habitat supports its life. The species diversity of Cyperus has not been recorded around the rice fields of Beringin Kencana village. The purpose of this study was to describe the species diversity of the Cyperus genus in the rice fields of Beringin Kencana Village, Tabunganen District. Descriptive method with roaming technique on line transect is used in this research. The results showed that Cyperus polystachyos, Cyperus odoratus, Cyperus rotundus and Cyperus sphacelatus lived around the rice fields of Beringin Kencana Village, Tabunganen District. The species diversity index of Cyperus is in the moderate category (H' = 1.37).

Abstract

Researches on the development of teaching materials in universities in the learning process to Improving higher-order thinking in plant Botany courses based on local materials are currently very necessary. Various forms of teaching materials were developed to Improving critical thinking skills. One of them is a popular scientific book.  This study aims to test the practicality of the popular scientific book (BIP) Botany of Swamp Plants in improving students' critical thinking skills in studying Higher Plant Botany. The type of research was Research and Development (R&D). The research subjects were 13 students of the Biology Education Study Program at Lambung Mangkurat University, with the object of research being BIP Botany of Swamp Plants. Practicality data was obtained based on the readability tests of three students, and 10 students. The research data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the BIP Botany of Swamp Plants which was developed practically (very practical category) was used to improve students' critical thinking skills.
