Abstract

Dalam berkomunikasi, manusia terkadang melakukan tindakan yang dapat mengancam citra diri seseorang, oleh karena itu diperlukan penggunaan strategi kesopansantunan untuk mengurangi kemungkinan ancaman tersebut. Penelitian ini berjudul “Strategi kesopansantunan yang digunakan untuk menyampaikan perintah di film The Social Network”. Teori yang digunakan untuk menganalisis data adalah teori dari Penelope Brown dan Stephen Levinson (1987) tentang tipe– tipe kesopansantunan dan juga faktor yang mempengaruhi dalam menggunakan strategi tersebut. Data yang dikumpulkan dianalisa menggunakan metode deskriftif kualitatif. Strategi kesopansantunan yang digunakan oleh para karakter untuk menyampaikan perintah di film The Social Network ada tiga tipe, diantaranya bald on record, positive politeness, dan negative politeness. Tipe bald on record yang digunakan adalah cases of non-minimization of the face threat. Tipe positive politeness yang digunakan adalah offer / promise, be optimistic, dan include both speaker and hearer in the activity. Tipe negative politeness yang digunakan adalah be conventionally indirect. Faktor yang mempengaruhi karakter dalam menggunakan strategi tersebut ada dua, yaitu payoffs: a priori consideration dan the circumstances. Dalam the circumstances, ada dua sub tipe, diantaranya social distance dan the relative power.

Abstract

This research is aimed to find out the lexical equivalence and whether meaning shift occurred or not in the Doraemon tools translation in volume 1-8 of Daich?hen Doraemon comics by Fujiko F Fujio and its translation in Indonesian by Hiromi Amadio Prabowo. The data were analyzed using qualitative analysis method. This research used the theory of lexical equivalence by Larson (1984) and the theory of componential analysis by Bell (1993). There are 100 name of Doraemon tools were found in these comics. Finding lexical equivalents in special problems are mostly found with 48 datas (48%) and lexical equivalents when concepts are shared with 44 datas (44%), the least is lexical equivalents when concepts are unknown with only 8 datas (8%). There were 58 datas (58%) where shift meaning occurred and 42 datas (42%) where shift meaning did not occurred. In conclusion, translator did a lot of adjustments in translation based on comic images, tools functions and target language so that the readers can easily understand the meanings.

Abstract

Studi yang berjudul Conflicts and Psychological Aspects of America Singer in The Novel The Selection. Studi ini difokuskan pada analisa konflik yang terjadi pada karakter America Singer, dan melalui konflik tersebut dapat terlihat aspek psikologi dari karakter tersebut. Studi ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dan metode deskripsi. Data yang digunakan dalam studi ini berupa novel The Selection dari Kiera Cass. Teori yang digunakan untuk menganalisa data adalah teori dari Karl S. Bernhardt (1953) dalam buku Pratical Psychology, serta teori dari Gail and Myers (1992) dalam buku The Dynamic Of Human Communication. Temuan dari studi ini menyatakan bahwa melalui konflik yang terjadi, kita bisa melihat psikologi dari karakter Amerca Singer bahwa dia adalah orang yang tertutup.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berjudul Aspek Psikologis dari Konflik Karakter Utama dalam Novel "The Guardian" oleh Nicholas Sparks. Novel ini adalah novel ketujuh yang ditulis oleh penulis Nicholas Sparks, yang diterbitkan pada bulan September 2013. Penelitian ini bertujuan meneliti dan menganalisis konflik yang dialami oleh tokoh utama di dalam novel dan aspek psikologis dari konflik tersebut yang dialami oleh tokoh utama. Data dikumpulkan melalui penelitian kepustakaan dan dianalisis dengan metode kualitatif. Teori yang digunakan didasarkan pada teori konflik yang diusulkan oleh Kenney, dan teori psikologi yang diusulkan oleh Bernhardt. Konflik Julie dapat dikategorikan menjadi konflik eksternal dan internal. Untuk konflik eksternal terjadi antara Richard Franklin dan Mike Harris. Karakter utama yang diwakili oleh Julie Barenson mendapat banyak perang antara benaknya dan dianalisis dalam konflik internal. Analisis aspek psikologis karakter utama terbagi atas keinginan, emosi, dan perasaan. Keinginan karakter utama yang digambarkan oleh narator cerita ini adalah ketika Julie ingin Richard berhenti mengikutinya lagi. Emosi adalah saat Julie sedih setelah mendapat konflik dengan Mike. Perasaannya adalah saat dia merasa kasihan kepada Richard karena dia tidak bisa pergi bersamanya lagi.

Abstract

The title of this study is Figurative Language Used By Characters in the Sherlock Holmes 1 Movie Script “The Study in Pink”. The aims of this study are to discover the types of figurative languages and their meanings used in the movie. The data source was taken from the internet website and this movie script was purely from the Sherlock movie in season one. In collecting data, the method used for this study was documentary method. In analyzing the data, the study used qualitative method. The major theory used is the theory of figurative language proposed by Knickerbocker and Reninger (1963), and the supporting theory about the meaning proposed by Leech (1974). The result shows that there are four types from ten types of figurative language appearing in the movie. In addition, there are three types that are used from seven types of meaning.

Abstract

This study is entitled “Figurative Language in Westlife Album “Coast to Coast” and My Chemical Romance Album ‘Welcome to Black Parade”. The problems formulated in this study are the types of figurative language employed in Westlife’s and My Chemical Romance’s song lyrics and to find out how is the meaning of figurative language contrasted with its lexical meaning. There were five songs of Westlife chosen to be the source of first data, namely; Againts All Odds, I Lay My Love on You, My Love, What Makes a Man, and When You’re Looking Like That and five songs of My Chemical Romance also chosen to be the source of second data, namely; I Don’t Love You, The Sharpest Live, This How I Disappear, MAMA, and Welcome to Black Parade. The data were collected using documentation method then they were analyzed through qualitative method. After the data were analyzed and discussed, it was found that there were seven kinds of figure of speech employed in all the ten song lyrics; they were Simile, Personification, Hyperbole, Metonymy, Irony, Metaphor and Paradox. And then we find out the meaning of figurative language contrasted with its lexical meaning

Abstract

Period Hindu-Buddha in Indonesian, Leaving behind a variety of archaeological heights. Research to investigate the definition statue Hindu-Buddha at Agung Batan Bingin Temple, Pejeng Kawan Village. The purpose of this study is to reconstruct the history of Balinese culture in the past especially its aspect of religment. The writer apply this method for accumulation file like library study, observasion, interview as well as analysis, iconography. The theory used to help analysis is the functional theory. Based on the results of the research Found that there is an iconography mark in the statues of Hindu-Buddha on Agung Batan Bingin Temple. Iconography mark show the variety of jewelry, clothing, art, and posture depiction. Statue Hindu-Buddha on Bingin Temple including to ancient Balinese periodic. Statue Hindu-Buddha on Agung Batan Bingin Temple untill now still being used as an instrument of veneration by the people of Bali performing religious ceremonies, the Balinese people used to call it "Penyungsung Pura". Statue Hindu-Buddha the, believed in society pejeng kawan village as a means of begging for protection, safety, and plants fertility in society Pejeng Kawan Village.

Abstract

Teacher Onizuka. The comic tell a story about a young man, 22 year old, who want to be a great teacher named Eikichi Onizuka.By using the theory of emotional intelligence by Daniel Goleman, this comic is analyzed from the point of view of main character emotional intelligence and impact to the other character. According to the result of analysis the emotional intelligence become a figure Onizuka in the comic are self awareness, self regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills. The impact from his emotional intelligence are the student can tell the truth about her feeling, be confident and rigid, always go to school and also there is one student who become an artist. The emotional intelligence of Onizuka also has inspired other teachers although there are teachers who doesn’t like it. Beside, emotional intelligence of Onizuka makes someone more concerned with others.

Abstract

This research analyzed the function and meaning of yahari/yappari and sasuga as adverbs in Japanese Language. The data source was taken from a novel by Keigo Higashino entitled “Ryusei no Kizuna”. The method of this research was qualitative descriptive method. The result of the research showed that yahari/yappari has three functions and sasuga has one function. Yahari/yappari has three meanings and sasuga has two meanings. Yahari/yappari can be replaced by sasuga when it showed the situation conforms to the speaker’s expectation with a strong feeling. Then sasuga can be replaced by yahari/yappari when it showed that the speaker was impressed by the situation conforms to his/her expectation.

Abstract

The title of this research is “A Strategy and Procedure of Japanese IdiomsTranslation in Doraemon Teema Betsu Kessaku Sen Comics Edition 1—17” Thisresearch describe the translation strategies and procedures applied in translatingJapanese idioms. The theories used in this research are translation strategies accordingto Baker (1992) and translation procedures according to Vinay and Darbelnet (in Venuti,2000). The data were analyzed with translational equal method and technique of selectivedecisive element. The results of this research show that from 34 idioms, 28 idioms aretranslated by paraphrase, 5 idioms are translated into target language’s idioms, and 1idiom is not translated. In addition, 2 are idioms translated with literal translationprocedure, 17 idioms are translated with transposition procedure, 8 idioms aretranslated with adaptation procedure, and 7 idioms are translated by equivalenceprocedure.
