Abstract

Ergonomic risk factors for weaving workers are generally caused by repetitive work, long working period, wrong awkward work and work positions. The objective study was to assess the ergonomic risk level of weaving workers at weaving industry centers. This study was an observational study with a cross-sectional design, using the REBA methods. This study was conducted in April - September 2019 at the weaving industry center in Palembang. Ergonomics risk assessment is carried out at the stages of the weaving process starting from the yarn coloring, spinning, yarn winding, yarn insertion in the yarn rack, twisting, milling, winding the yarn after it has been rolled and the weaver. Data were collected using REBA worksheets, observation and documentation. Furthermore, the data were analyzed based on the scores from the REBA table. The results of the ergonomics risk assessment using REBA scores at each stage of the process with the following details: in the warp yarn process the final score of 9 (high risk), the final score of 9 (high risk), handling (final score 11 = very high risk), punishment (final score 11 = very high risk), twisting (final score 9 = high risk), slashing (final score 7 = moderate risk), palletizing (final score 9 = high risk) and weaving process (final score 9 = high risk). The level of ergonomic risk for weaving workers in Palembang was moderate, high and very high risk, so it is necessary to immediately repair the equipment, especially the equipment for the weaving process.

Abstract

In various industrial companies, especially the food industry, there are still activities that are carried out manually in handling the process loading and unloading of goods, one of which is PT. Bogasari. PT. Bogasari is a flour company spread across Indonesia with several brands produced including KB (Kunci Biru), CK (Cakra Kembar), LM (Red badge), and SB (Blue Triangle). In the Consumer Packing section, which is a flour packaging place, there are still activities that are carried out manually, namely at the loading and unloading stages of goods from 3 work stations which can result in the risk of muscle injury to workers. This study aims to analyze the weight of the load that should be lifted by workers and to determines the effect of the weight of the load that has been lifted by the Consumer Packing workers in terms of safety and health conditions using the Recommended Weight Limit and Lifting Index methods. From calculations and analysis carried out on 3 work stations showing different LI values, namely for work station 1 with carton lifting activity of 4.78691069; work station 2 with the activity of lifting wrapping bags (tags) of 6,51384355; and work station 3 with box lifting activity of 4,99049243. So, it can be concluded that the activities carried out by workers from the 3 work stations have a risk of muscle injury because the resulting Lifting Index value is more than 3 (LI ? 3).

Abstract

Sokka Super Sid Tile SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) is one of the SMEs that produce roof tiles in the Godean area. This SMEs has problems regarding workers' body positions that are not ergonomic and are carried out for a long period of time (around 7-8 hours / day) and are repeated for days, resulting in bad effects that are often felt by workers when doing their work such as when bending over, back pain, cramps in muscles and decreased ability to move. This posture issue will cause pain in the joints, muscles and ligaments, and therefore will have an impact on discomfort while working. This study aims to determine body posture in the working position after improvements have been made and provide recommendations for improvements to reduce pain felt by the workers by proposing an ergonomic work tool design. The Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) method is used to determine the risk of injury to the posture of workers at each work station. Data were collected through observation, interviews and taking photo documentation at each work station. Prior to the improvement, activities that have a risk level of 2 are at the work stations of refining, pressing, and drying. Risk level 3 is at the milling, burning, and mixing work stations. Risk level 4 is at the sun-drying work station. Improvements given to the UKM are desk facilities to make their work easier and to reduce the risk of injury to workers' bodies. After improvements are implemented, the results obtained show risk level 1 is at the work station of milling, drying, refining, and burning. Risk level 2 is at the mixing, pressing and sun-drying work stations. It is concluded that the improvement of body posture in drying workers is in accordance with the ideal work posture.

Abstract

By using the ergonomic concept, the physical environment of a residence’s inhabitant, namely indoor environmental quality (IEQ), becomes one of the determinants of its inhabitant’s psychological state. However, there are still limited previous studies examining the IEQ and its elements such as thermal comfort, acoustic comfort, indoor air quality, and visual comfort in small housing settings and its role on the psychological condition of its occupants, namely psychological well-being (PWB). However, there are still limited previous studies examining the IEQ in small housing settings and its role on PWB of its inhabitants. This study aimed to determine and explain the role of IEQ and its aspects on PWB of small housing inhabitants. This quantitative survey research used questionnaire as the main data collection and supported by interviews and observations. The participants of this study were 90 residents of the flat, representing the occupants of the unit, which were selected by random sampling technique from the 112 occupied units. Simple regression analysis was used to test the research hypothesis. The results showed that the quality of the environment in the dwelling had a significant positive role on PWB of the small house inhabitants (R = 0.272; R2 = 0.074; p <0.05) by 7.4%. Among the four aspects of EIQ, there were two aspects that played a significant role on PWB, namely air quality and temperature. This study also revealed that majority of the participants had PWB in the high category, and IEQ in the medium category. Moreover, the ability of residents to adapt and change the environment were considered as psychological factors that influence the small housing inhabitant’s interaction toward indoor physical environment.

Abstract

From a preliminary study conducted on 10 private junior high school students in Denpasar, data were obtained that 40% of students experienced complaints of dizziness, 50% glare and 10% sore eyes. In addition, students' musculoskeletal complaints were caused by the size of the chairs and study desks not in accordance with the student's anthropometry and as a result of a monotonous environmental condition, causing less stimulus or stimulation to affect student concentration during learning. With the above background, a research was conducted with The same-subject design involved 26 students with an age range of 13-15 years. The study was conducted for 3 days in a row, namely on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday by measuring the anthropometry of the student's body using a super brand anthropometer 686, musculoskeletal complaints with the Nordic Body Map before and after repairs were made. Data were analyzed using paired t-test at the significance level of p=0.005. The results showed that the mean of musculoskeletal complaints before successive improvement was 27.44 ± 0.27; 26.94 ± 0.61 and 27.00 ± 0.55. An unnatural learning attitude caused by the chair being not high enough, an additional 2 cm of chair was made to compensate for the height of the table which had been adjusted to the popliteal height and elbow height in the sitting position. By making improvements to the chair can reduce musculoskeletal complaints by 42, 14%. From the research, it can be concluded that repairing tables and chairs can reduce students' musculoskeletal complaints and it is suggested that the layout of these improvements will be used in the future for students with an age range of 13-15 years.

Abstract

Welding work is one of the occupations that has the potential to cause musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) complaints due to non-ergonomic work postures. Welders tend to make odd and repetitive movements by 80.8% so they might potentially cause them to experience MSDs.This study aims to assess the risk of ergonomics in welding work at PT X's workshop A and its correlation with welder’s complaints of MSDs. This study used a cross-sectional design. Observations of the work process and interviews were carried out from January 18 to February 1, 2022 using the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) and Nordic Body Map (NBM). Most of the welders performed welding in a squatting posture (72.4%), followed by a standing and sitting posture. The results of the ergonomic risk level assessment showed that the squatting posture had a very high risk level. Meanwhile, the dominant complaints filed by welders were the lower back (59%) and neck (45%). Improvement efforts are urgently needed to reduce the level of risk and complaints of MSDs from welders by implementing the Health Risk Assessment (HRA) program as the first step to determine an occupational health service program for workers.
