Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the direct and indirect effect of hedonic value, utilitarian value, word of mouth, and behavioral intention of consumer in Casa Baio Paradise Resort, Sulawesi Utara. This study uses questionnaires as the research instrument with 108 respondents as the sample. Sampling technique is purposive sampling. This study uses Partial Least Square (PLS) to analyzed the data. The result shows that there are : 1) a significant direct effect of hedonic value to word of mouth; 2) utilitarian value to word of mouth; 3) utilitarian value and word of mouth to behavioral intention. This study also confirm that word of mouth full mediates the influence of hedonic value to behavioral intention and partial mediates the influence of utilitarian value to behavioral intention. The other result shows that there is no significant relationship between hedonic value and behavioral intention.  https://doi.org/10.26905/jmdk.v6i1.2071

Abstract

Performance appraisal system aims to guide the employee in achieving company's goals. The objective of this study  are : 1) to directly analyze the effectiveness of performance appraisal system in influencing work satisfaction, work motivation, and employee performance; 2) to directly analyze the effectiveness of work satisfaction and work motivation in influencing employee performance;3) to indirectly analyze the effectiveness of performance appraisal system in influencing employee performance through work motivation and work satisfaction as the intervening variables. Performance appraisal system is implemented only to the employees with superior position in a company, not to those who are subordinates. Thus, the promotion is not targeted to the individual with the biggest contribution in the process of achieving company's goals. Primary data are collected by distributing questionnaires to the respondents using purposive sampling technique. The sample are consisted of 110 employees of the engineering division at Wringinanom Sugar Factory, Indonesia. Data are analyzed by Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). Results of the study show that the performance appraisal system has a direct and significant effect on work satisfaction, work motivation, and employee performance, and it has an indirect significant effect on employee performance through work motivation and work satisfaction as the intervening variables.https://doi.org/10.26905/jmdk.v6i1.2090

Abstract

This study aims to describe and explain the meaning of change in hijab culture in society and how the role of these values change on the implementation of differentiation-focus strategy and its effect in improving business performance. This research is conducted  on small business hijab Faiz Collection in Manyar District Gresik. This research approach is a case study with qualitative descriptive research method. The findings of the study indicate that the meaning of change in hijab culture is related to values on the hijab. The first value is cultural value, formed by: 1) religious system, 2) social     organization     system,            and 3) knowledge system. The second value is hijab value, formed by: 1) religious system, 2) community norms, 3) requirements, and 4) benefits. The third value is business value, formed by: 1) consumption activities, 2) production activities and 3) distribution activities. The effect of changing needs on hijab (from hijab standard to the syar'i hijab) to business performance is the increasing sales doubled compared with the standard hijab sales.  https://doi.org/10.26905/jmdk.v6i1.2151

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the influence of liquidity, profitability, growth opportunity, company size and capital structure to company value. The population of this research is food and beverage companies listed in Indonesian Stock Exchange period 2012 – 2016. The technique used in sampling is purposive sampling. The sample in this study is nine companies. Data analysis using SmartPLS. The result of this study shows that growth opportunity and company size have positive and significant influence to company value. Profitability and capital structure have negative and significant influence to company value. Liquidity has positive and not significant influence to company value. Liquidity and profitability have negative and significant influence to capital structure. Growth opportunity and company size have positive and not significant influence to capital structure. Capital structure as an intervening variable from liquidity and profitability to company value, but not for growth opportunity and company size to company value. https://doi.org/10.26905/jmdk.v6i1.2155

Abstract

This study evaluates the effect of product innovation and prices on competitive advantage of beer products in Kabale Uganda, by analyzing responses obtained through questionnaires using multiple regression analysis. From analysis of respondents, the percentage of targeted respondents that actually responded to the questionnaire was 96%. From the preliminary analysis conducted in this study, majority of respondents have the following attributes,1 ) diploma level education, 2) are males, 3) aged between 36-45 years, and 4) prefer Nile lager beer. The data approximates normal distribution, with absence of multicollinearity. The results of the multiple regression analysis indicate that product innovation and prices have significant effect on competitive advantage among beer products and producers in Kabale Uganda. We therefore conclude that innovation and prices have positive and significant predictive effect on competitive advantage. Hence, the firms could enhance competitive advantage by paying attention to innovation and prices variables. We therefore recommend, amongst others, that that brand managers should prioritize innovation and prices as strategies to attract and sustain competitive advantage. https://doi.org/10.26905/jmdk.v6i1.2189

Abstract

This study aims to explore human resource management practice based on competency in public sector organizations by taking case studies at the Government of Tulungagung Regency. The human resource management practice based on competency  in public sector organizations have been conducted through the application of Law no. 5/2014 about the State Civil Apparatus. This study uses a qualitative approach where data obtained through semi-structured in-depth interviews of 7 (seven) research informants which authorized in public sector human resource management. The results of data analysis shows that the implementation of human resources management practice based on competency is found in the recruitment and selection process, career management and competency development. Abstract

This study aims to analyze determinant variables of capital structure and impact of capital structure on firm value. The determinants of capital structure such as  tangibility, profitability, non-debt tax shields, uniqueness, and shares price performance are used as independent variables. Capital structure and firm value are used as dependent variables. Data analysis in this research uses regression analysis. The samples are 62 manufacturing firms listed on Indonesian Stock Exchange from 2012 to  2016. The result shows : 1) tangibility has a positive and significant impact on capital structure; 2) profitability has a negative and significant impact on capital structure; 3) non-debt tax shields, uniqueness and shares price performance do not impact on capital structure; 4) capital structure has  a negative and significant impact on firm value  https://doi.org/10.26905/jmdk.v6i2.2210

Abstract

This study aims to explain the reasons behind the bankruptcy of BMT (Baitul Maal Wat Tanwil) PSU Malang with case study approach. The data are collected through documentation and interviews. The interviews are conducted on five informans namely informan A, B, C, D and E. The results show that the bankruptcy of BMT PSU is caused by internal factors and external factors. Internal factors causing bankruptcy of BMT PSU are: unproductive fund management, bad credit (financing), fraud by employees, business loss, too high percentage of profit sharing, lack of good corporate governance (GCG) and weak internal control. Externals include: lack of security guarantees on customers' funds, economic pressures, lack of supervision and guidance from relevant agencies, as well as the onslaught of stronger new competitors. The findings of this research related to the causes of the bankruptcy BMT PSU, is expected to be useful  for practitioners and the government in preparing strategies for strengthening BMT in the future.https://doi.org/10.26905/jmdk.v6i2.2240

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the corporate sosial responsibility and independent commissioners on tax aggressiveness. This study are conducted on 130 firm-years manufacturing firms listed in the Indonesian Stock Exchange during period of 2012 to 2016, selected based on purposive sampling method. Tax aggressiveness is proxy by ETR. Corporate social responsibility activities measured based on disclosures referring to Gobal Reporting Initiative (GRI) guideline. Independent commissioner is the proportion of independent commissioner in the board of commissioners. The results show that: 1) tax aggressiveness can be suppressed by the increasing activity of corporate social responsibility, 2) tax aggressiveness is not influenced by independent commissioners in the company.  https://doi.org/10.26905/jmdk.v6i2.2277

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the motivations of using internet banking with gender as the moderation to representation the consumer behavior which can provide design of marketing strategies based on customers’ desires and needs. The sampling techniques are a purposive and a snowball sampling with 250 respondents in Surabaya. The result shows that perceived of usefulness, perceived ease of use, perceived of security and bank initiatives are motivations that encourage using the internet banking service.
