Abstract

Metabolic syndrome is still a risk factor for coronary heart disease. This study aims to analyze the association between metabolic syndrome and coronary heart disease in women. This study is an observational analytic study using a cross-sectional design on 138 samples selected using consecutive sampling method and data were collected through observation of the medical records of patients at dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang. The results showed that the highest proportion of metabolic syndrome components in the sample of this study was hypertension (54.3%), while the lowest was hyperglycemia (26.8%). This study found a significant relationship between metabolic syndrome and coronary heart disease in female patients (p = 0.047). Female patients with metabolic syndrome had a 2.218 times greater risk of developing coronary heart disease (PR 2.218 95% CI = 1.072 - 4.587).

Abstract

Abstract

AGTR1 is a modulator of angiotensin II-induced signal transduction. This article aims to examine the biomolecular characteristics of AGTR1 and the role of AGTR1 in the renal fibrosis pathway in Rattus norvegicus rats. The gene ID NC 051352.1 and protein ID NP 112271.2 for AGTR1 were retrieved from the National Center for Biotechnology Information's website. The 'NCBI' website has details on AGTR1's structure, location, and expression. Protease prediction using 'PEPTIDE CUTTER'; glycosylation index prediction using NETNGLYC; and target protein location evaluated on the 'TARGETP' homepage. AGTR1 in Rattus norvegicus is located on chromosome 17p12, This protein has a stability score of 34.48. The aliphatic index was 114.62. AGTR1 is found inside, outside, and on the transmembrane, as determined by the THMM. Only 21 enzymes were predicted to be capable of cleaving the AGTR1 protein, out of a total of 37 protease. AGTR1 protein has four glycosylated amino acid sequences. AGTR1 protein is primarily at other location 0.850, secretory pathway (0.590), and a little amount in mitochondria (0.018AGTR1/AT1R is a marker for renal fibrosis in the renin angiotensin system, which can lead in vasoconstriction, inflammation, fibrosis, sodium retention, and water retention. The AGTR1 protein's molecular feature is a determinant in the progression of renal fibrosis, revealed to a bioinformatics study.

Abstract

The pfcrt gene is a biomarker to determine the resistance of Plasmodium falciparum to chloroquine and amodiaquine. When chloroquine was switched to ACT, it is very likely that there will be an increase in wild type strains (pfcrt K76) due to the absence of exposure to chloroquine. Currently chloroquine has not used for malaria treatment. The aims of this study were to identify polymorphisms in the pfcrt gene and phylogenetic analysis of Plasmodium falciparum isolates from malaria patients in Pesawaran Regency, Lampung Province. This research is a laboratory research by analyzing blood samples which are stored biological materials (BBT). DNA isolation was carried out using a DNA isolation kit QIAmp DNA Mini kit from Qiagen, followed by amplification using an appropriate primer. The amplification results were followed by sequencing and then analyzed using Mega 10. The results showed that all samples had mutations in codons 76 (K76T) and 72 (C72S) of the pfcrt gene. Pesawaran isolates were closely related to other isolates. The conclusion of this study is that polymorphisms were found in codons 72 and 76 of the PfCRT gene, although chloroquine has long been abandoned as an antimalarial. The sequenced pesawaran isolates were also related to other isolates.

Abstract

Impaired fasting blood glucose is a condition that we can still try to turn back to normal. However, this has not been a concern. We aimed to analyze the contribution of risk factors (age, occupation, gender, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, body mass index, physical activity, diet quality, and abdominal circumference) to the incidence of impaired fasting blood glucose in people of productive age in Palembang. This research was an observational analytic study with a cross sectional design. The results of the analysis using logistic regression showed that the most dominant risk factor associated with impaired fasting glucose was the diastolic blood pressure with OR=4.56, 95% CI=1.956-10,632, and p-value <0.001. Diastolic blood pressure was a significant and dominant risk factor for impaired fasting glucose in productive age communities. It is recommended that people who are more than 15 years old are expected to maintain blood pressure within the normal range, especially diastolic blood pressure in order to reduce the risk of disrupted fasting blood glucose by continuing to do physical activity

Abstract

Background: Headache is one of the most common complaint in population while a serious causative of underlying disease is very rare. Although headaches are rarely the result of a brain tumor, brain tumors are frequently associated with headaches. The challenges to the physician are to determine the specific feature of headache related to brain tumor. Methods: This is cross sectional study involved primary and metastatic brain tumor patient admitted in neurology ward of Mohammad Hoesin hospital from April 2018 to June 2019. The inclusion criteria including age > 18 years old and there was symptom of headache based on anamnesis. All were interviewed about their personal details (age, gender). The characteristic of headache was obtained based on questionnaire designed in our department. Various neurological symptoms related to the tumor were also recorded. Information of the tumor was obtained from the patient’s chart (histopathology of the tumor) and from characteristic of neuroradiological finding (magnetic resonance imaging or computed tomography). Headache and tumor characteristics were compared between primary and metastatic tumor by contrasting frequencies. We also analysed the correlation between tumor characteristics (location, hidrocephalus, vasogenic edema and tumor type) with headache intensity. Results: A total of 95 of 199 patients (48%) with headache symptom were studied in this series. Most patients were complained of chronic headache. Headache was mostly throbbing in both primary and metastatic brain tumors.  Progressively headache was dominant in this study and more than half patients report the quality of headache as moderate at the onset. In 35,8% patients, headache was the patient’s first complaint.  Headache as the isolated symptom of brain tumor was found in only 3,2% and only 28,4% of patients ful?lled the three ‘classic criteria’ of the brain tumor headache. A great localizing value of the headache was found in 63 cases of 95 patients. Of the 61 patients with single tumor and unilateral side, the unilateral headache was on 48 cases (78,8%). Of the 26 patients with strictly bilateral headache, 10 cases (38,5%) had bilateral sided tumors. Conclusion: The incidence of brain tumor headache in this study is similar to previous reports although the classic brain tumor headache features was found in a small portion of the patients.
