Abstract

Pines are the largest tree forests in West of Java so that they are very potential to be developed as an agroforestry system. Forage crop potentially to be cultivated in the agroforestry system. The aim of the research was to study the response of the grasses grown under pines forest. The experiment was conducted at pines forest area arranged in randomized complete block design. The treatments were 3 grasses (Pennisetum purpureum cv. Taiwan, P. purpureum (local) and Pennisetum purpureophoides (king grass). Data collected were productivity, agronomic performance (plant height, tiller), forage production and quality. The result shows that shoot production of Taiwan cultivar was significantly higher than local P. purpureum. It was produced 498.4 g/clump on rainy season and 287.0 g/clump at dry season. At dry season forage production was decreased by 39,9%/ha. Nutrient composition at rainy season, crude fibre of grass was 39.89%; Ca 0.04%; P 0.26%; ash 12.46%; energy 4239.5 kcal/kg and crude protein 8.23%; while at the mid of dry season crude fibre was 38.43%; Ca 0.035%; P 0.26%; ash 11,43%; energy 3943 kcal/kg and crude protein 8.94%. Abstract

Arachis pintoy can be reproduced in generative but also vegetative way, for example through cuttage. Problems arising from this reproduction method is the difficulty to form roots. The success rate of this method depends significantly on the size of the formed callus. To analyze the content of nutrients contained in the cuttage stem, we have to cut off the stem. And then it’s necessary to find out additional factors that can influence the forming of the callus with a large percentage of rooting. One alternative solution is the provision of coconut water which believed to contain a variety of nutrients and growth substances. Therefore, we conducted a study to find out the interaction of these two factors on the growth of Arachis pintoy The purpose and goal of this research is to study and identify the growth Arachis pintoy which treated with coconut water its influences on the stem length. This research has been performed in Agrostology Lab of Animal Husbandrys Faculty of Sam Ratulangi University, during a period of 60 days. The research materials consists of Arachis pintoy, Coconut Water and soil. While the research method use 2 experimental factors: Factor A is the Coconut water, Factor B is the after-cuttage-stem length of Arachis pintoy, which arranged through completely randomized design (CRD). Each factor consists of 3 treatments, which repeated 3 times. These factors are as follows: A = volume of Coconut water, A1 = 100 ml of coconut water, A2 = 200 ml of coconut water, and A3 = 300 ml of coconut water. Factor B = stem length of Arachis pintoy, B1 = 10 cm, B2 = 15 cm, and B3 = 20 cm. And the variables which measured in this study were plant height, dry weight of roots and the roots volume. The results showed that administration of coconut water and the length of the cuttings as well as the interaction of two factors give significant effect (P < 0.05) to the growth of the number of leaves and root dry weight of the Arachis pintoy . Furthermore, coconut water does not give effect to the root volume and a combination of two factors do not impact on the growth of plant height. From the data analysis and discussion for all variables in this study , we can conclude that the best combination of growth in the number of leaves , dry weight of roots and root volume is the provision of 300 ml of coconut water and 10 cm stem length. Keywords: Arachis pintoy, coconut water and stem length

Abstract

The side-effect of sand mining was disappearing of biomass which caused of land degradation. A study has been carried out to obtain the model legume association with superior grass plants that are adaptive to repair post-mining land on dry land. This research was desgined in association patern between grasses and legumes with manure application, using 8 combination of grasses herbaceous and tree legumse with 3 replications. This research was conducted at Sebudi village, Karangasem district. Panicum maximum var. Trichoglum, Paspalum atratum, Centrocema pubescens, and Clitoria ternatea were used for grasses and legumes respectively. Observed variables were quality and forage production. The results of this research showed that almost all association can be implemented at dryland, and association patern between Panicum and Paspalum with Clitoria gave extra biomass. This association also showed great potential to improve land quality. The quality and production of grasses were greatly influenced by the association of legumes. Panicum and Paspalum associated with both Clitoria or Centrocema gave highest yield. Various of manure showed a non significant difference on quality and production of grass associated with tree legumes, although it tend to increase both of growth and production of grasses.

Abstract

Arachis pintoi is the forage that has multiple functions like improving soil fertility, preventing soil erosion, as well as for feed and shade tolerance. A research has been conducted at Reasearch Institute of Animal Production for one year in order to study the effect of shading and cutting interval on forage production of Arachispintoi. The shade was made of paranet, Arachispintoi were planted using pols in pots with a diameter of 36 cm. Pots were placed on the artificial shade 2,5 x 2,5 m wich each side was covered with a shade appropriate treatment. Shade to the plant height of two meter. A factorial randomized block design was arranged with three replications, as the first factor was the intensity of shading which consists of: N0 = Control without shade, N1 = Shade using 1 layer paranet (50% shade), N2 = Shade using 2 layers of paranet (70% shade), N3 = Shade using 3 layers of paranet (80% shade), N4 = Shade using 4 layer paranet (90% shade), as a second factor was the cutting interval which consisted of: the interval 1 month, 2 months, 3 months and 4 months. The results showed that the level of shading and cutting interval effect highly significant (P <0.01) on forage production of freshand dry weight of Arachis pintoi. Until at the 50% shade level (N1) the production of forage Arachis pintoi did not significantly different compared to the production of forage Arachis without shade. While cutting interval of 3 month showed higher production when compared with Arachis production cut at intervals of 1, 2 and 4 months.
