Abstract

Thailand-variety elephant grass fertilized with organic and urea combination was conducted from August 1st up to Novembre 30th, 2009. The purpose of this study was to know the best interaction of organic-urea levels on the production and quality aspects of Thailand-variety elephant grass. The method used was experimental, 3x4 factorial pattern, using completely randomized design (CRD). There were 3 replicates in each treatment combination. The first factor was organic fertilizer (3 levels: k0= 0 ton/ha, k1= 20 tons/ha, and k2 = 40 tons/ ha), and the second factor was urea (4 levels: R0 = 0 kg/ha, R1 = 150 kg/ha, R2 = 300 kg/ha, and R3 = 450 kg/ ha). Variables measured were the number of tillers, plant height, the number of leaves/bunch, fresh weight, dry weight, agronomic efficiency, and crude protein and crude fiber concentrations. The result of analisys of variance showed that organic fertilizer had significant effect (P < 0.05) on the tiller/bunch, number of leaves/bunch, dry matter yield, and crude protein, but gave highly significant effect (P < 0.01) on fresh yield, and no significant effect (P > 0.05) on the height of plant and crude fiber concentration. Whereas urea gave a significant effect (P < 0.05) on the number tiller/bunch, and highly significant effect (P < 0.01) on fresh and dry matter yield and crude protein concentration, but no significant effect (P > 0.05) on height of plant, the number of leaves to stems ratio, and crude fiber concentration. The conclusions of this study for the management of Thailand-variety elephant grass, the best organic-urea fertilizer combination was at the level of 40 tons of organic fertilizer/ha/ defoliation and 300 kg of urea/ha/defoliation, showed from the agronomy aspects such as the number of tillers/ bunch, the height of plant, the number of leaves/bunch, fresh and dry matter yields, and quality aspect include crude protein and crude fiber concentration.

Abstract

Permasalahan utama yang ditemui dalam pengawetan hijauan sumber protein menjadi silase adalah proses pembusukan akibat dari sifat buffer protein yang tinggi dalam hijauan yang mungkin berkaitan dengan rasio karbon:nitrogen (C/N) yang rendah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh rasio C/N dalam proses ensilage terhadap kualitas silage Chromolaena odorata yang merupakan salah satu hijauan sumber protein. Telah diuji empat perlakuan yaitu C0N = Chromolaeana tanpa penambahan sumber karbon (rasio C/N 14,9); CN20= Chromolaeana + tepung putak (Corypha gebanga) sebagai sumber karbon untuk mencapai rasio C/N 20, atau 25 (CN25) atau 30 (CN30) menggunakan prinsip rancangan acak lengkap 4 × 3. Variabel yang diamati adalah profil organoleptik, proporsi yang rusak, dan kandungan nutrisi silase. Data dianalisis menggunakan analisis varian untuk RAL dan perbedaan perlakuan ditentukan menggunakan Duncan test yang ditetapkan pada nilai Alfa 0,05. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa meninggkatkan rasio C/N hingga 30, secara nyata meningkatkan profil organoleptik, kandungan bahan organik, protein kasar, serta menurunkan komponen serat kasar dalam silase. Disimpulkan bahwa rasio C/N dalam proses pembuatan silase hijauan sumber protein sangat penting di mana hasil terbaik dicapai dalam penelitian ini adalah rasio C/N 30. Namun, belum dapat direkomendasikan sebagai rasio yang terbaik karena hingga rasio 30, tren pengaruhnya masih berbentuk linear. Abstract

A survey study was carried out to investigate the kinds of forage and nutrient adequacy of Jawarandu goats in Brebes Regency, Central Java Province. The study was conducted in three sub-districts Tonjong, Bumiayu, and Paguyangan, involving 504 Jawarandu goats belonging to 45 farmers. Determination of the location, farmers and goat as samples was done by purposive sampling method. The results showed that feedstuffs of Jawarandu goat in Brebes Regency were Albasia (Albaziafalcataria), Mahogany (Swietenia mahogany), Suren (Toonasureni), Kaliandra (Calliandrahaematocephala), and Gamal (Glyricidiasepium). Nutrients consumed by Jawarandu goat in BrebesRgency exceeded the needs as recommended by Kearl (1982). It suggested that Jawarandu goat farmers in Brebes Regency be given counseling/training on feeding management for feed utilization being more efficient.Key words: forage, Jawarandu goat, nutrient adequacy

Abstract

Forage is needed by ruminant in large quantity. Several forages have low feed quality and then it is required to improve the forage quality that generally from gramineae and leguminoseae. Biotechnology using AMF is one of good strategic management on forage. AMF from the symbiotic mutualism with host plant through it’s root, has important role in plant production, ecosystem health. The best known mycorrhizal effect is that mycorrhizal plants take up more soil phosphorus and grow faster than corresponding non-mycorrhizal control plants. While spores are considered to be the resistant structure and may be viewed as ‘long term’ propagules when viable host plants are not present, hyphae are considered to be the main source of inokula when host plants are present and the soil is not disturbed.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the optimal dosage of manure derived from cattle fed concentrated rations supplemented ammonium sulfate which can increase the productivity of Pueraria phaseoloidesvar .Javanica. The design used in this experiment was Completely Randomized Design (RAL) with 4 treatments and 5 replications. The four treatments were fertilized with doses of 10, 15, 20 and 25 tons / ha, respectively for the treatment of A, B, C and D, so overall there were 20 pot experiments. The study was conducted for 12 weeks. Observed variables were plant length, number of leaves, number of branches, dry weight (DW) of leaves, DW of stem DW, total BK, leaf color, leaf stem ratio (LSR) and leaf weight ratio”(LWR). The results showed that legumes treated A B, C and D produced high crop, leaf area, leaf color, LSR and LWR were not significantly different (P> 0.05). The treated legume C. resulted in a significantly higher leaf number than the treated legume A, B and D (P <0.05). The number of branches and DW leaves on legumes treated with C were significantly higher (P <0.05) than those receiving treatment A. and were not significantly different with legumes treated with B and D (P> 0.05). The DW of stem and total DW production from legume treated C were significantly higher with those treated with A and B (P <0.05) and the difference was not significant with those treated with D (P> 0.05). From the results of the study it can be concluded that legume treated with C or fertilized with manure derived from cattle fed concentrate containning diet supplemented ammonium sulfate at a dose of 20 tons / ha yield of leguminous productivity Peuraria phaseoloides var. javanica maximum. Abstract

Agricultural and forage land used are generally not increased even tends to decrease, therefore the land use needs to be optimized; one of them is by mean of multiple cropping system. Land management efforts through the multiple cropping systems selected is supporting the fertility of soil physical, chemical and biological. Multiple cropping systems require an appropriate plant species and a supportive environment to produce high-quality crops and availability of feed crops are sufficient throughout the year. Application of Multiple cropping system can increase the efficiency of environmental factors (sun, water and nutrients), inhibits the growth of weeds, suppress pests and diseases, save labor and improve the income of livestock farmers.Keywords: forage crops, multiple cropping systems, soil fertility

Abstract

Kabupaten Gianyar di Provinsi Bali memiliki luas 36.800 ha yang terbagi menjadi tujuh kecamatan. Meskipun Kabupaten Gianyar dikenal sebagai kabupaten yang memiliki berbagai jenis kesenian, Gianyar juga menyimpan potensi besar untuk pengembangan tumbuhan pakan mendukung komuditas unggulan peternakan. Komuditas peternakan di Provinsi Bali yang tercakup dalam 40 komuditas unggulan nasional adalah sapi daging, kambing, babi, ayam kampung, dan ayam ras. Analisis LQ telah dilakuan terhadap berbagai komuditas ternak yang ada di Kabupaten Gianyar (data Tahun 2013). Jika dicermati share kecamatan terhadap kabupaten dari berbagai komuditas ternak yang ada di Kabupaten Gianyar menunjukkan bahwa kabupaten Gianyar memiliki keunggulan komparatif yang cukup tinggi dilihat dari sub sektor peternakan. Sapi bali sangat cocok dikembangkan di kecamatan Payangan dan di Kecamatan Tegalalang. Lokus pengembangan ternak tersebut merupakann calon wilayah sentra produksi untuk komuditas ternak sapi di Kabupaten Gianyar. Hal tersebut juga terkait dengan potensi ketersediaan pakan hijauan dimana kecamatan Tegalalang dan Payangan memiliki potensi besar untuk pengembangan hijauan.

Abstract

Identification of potential forage variety from various biological resources of forages has become a vital need in order to increase forage production. A study has been carried out aimed to finding out the potential forage production of Mikania cordata and its development potential as tropical forage. The research method used is a field survey of the presence of Mikania cordata in all regencies in Bali. The survey results show that the production of Mikania cordata is 840 kg ha-1 with a high water content. Mikania is very easy to spread and is very fond of shade and can grow well on non-humid land. Almost all districts in Bali can find Mikania plants. Mikania has been widely used by farmers as feed mixed with various local grasses. It was concluded that Mikania cordata is very potential as a source of forage feed, easily developed in sharing patterns of crop integration and high production. Abstract

Phosphorus (P) is one of the essential nutrients for plants that availability is strongly influenced by soil pH. In acid soils, most of the P is given will form insoluble compounds and is not available to plants. Phosphate solubilizing bacteria is a soil microorganism that can improve the provision ofP in acid soils. The study aimed to determine the effect of Phosphate solubilizing bacteria on the productivity of tropical kudzu was conducted using a completely randomized design with four treatments ie without isolate (I0), standard isolate (I1), isolate B.80.1649-1 (I2) and isolate B.80.1649-8 (I3), each treatment was repeated four times. The results showed that both isolates were isolated and selection were able to increase the length of the plants, number of leaves, shoot dry weight, root dry weight, shoot P content,  N uptake, P uptake, and production of crude protein of tropical kudzu (Pueraria phaseoloides Benth.). The ability of isolates B.80.1649-1 higher than isolates B.80.1649-8, and comparable with standard isolate.

Abstract

Extensive raising of livestock, especially cattle is still faced with problems of quality and a continuous supply of green feed. Nearly 70% of production costs and maintenance expenditure sourced from cattle feed. Labor efficiency being one of the problems that have not been resolved. Various methods were developed to find a solution that will be able to resolve problems that arise. Breakthroughs were made to bring the solution to be developed. One conducted by BPTUHPT Padang Mengatas is to do with the method of pasture grazing system. With this system is expected able to resolve the issues. This method is considered appropriate to be applied as to minimize feed costs and streamline workforce on the vast farm lands.Keywords : feed, workforce, pasture.
